Of course the politicians are playing to the mainstream media. When you look below the surface and see who owns the American mainstream TV/radio media.. And more closely still to see what connections their owners have to factions that are realy objectionable..,things start to gain a new perspective. And just where were these courageous, stalwart, upstanding paragons of sterling integrity and unimpeachable character during the 8 years that George Bush Jr. & Dick Cheny were running America into the ground like a Winter rat, and ignoring creating any new jobs ? Likely silent whenever the teleprompters were being reprogramed like the marquis of a movie theatre anticipating new entertainment in between shows. The Corporate TV media prosttitutes are a bad joke. They prosper in a culture where people are too lazy to read the printed word, and even more lazier to think for themselves. TV is a free baby sitter to occupy the attention of their kids, a handy mind control device to tell them what to buy, what to think, and whom to vote for. The mainstream media never questioned Hitler Bush/Cheny when they were the occupiers of 1600 Pensylvania Ave. because those 2 were carrying out the instructions of the Corporations who owned the TV media like pimps run C note hos. I make it a point never to watch TV for "news" because it's doublespeak. If it's genuine news, BBC radio will carry it, the papers will print it, and some soul here on Current, com will share it with us. I got Dish network for the DVR, the commercial free movie channels like Encore Westerns, and satellite radio's Moodscapes & City Lights channels. A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Even in a culture overloaded with garbage as Bob Woodward might comment..

    • Even though I am thoroughly disappointed and angered by his total lack of spine when it comes to the war and the environment, I think it is still a bit too early to judge that. In all honesty however, I don't think a Democrat OR Republican deserve another term in DC. I think it is time for some REAL CHANGE.

Right you are shining star. As pragmatic as I am, even if the Roswell aliens from their crashed spaceship stored in Nevada's area 51, & the Pure Prairie League formed a coalition that really COULD empower the peaceful revolution that all righteous citizens secretly want to see materialize, I would prefer to cast my lot with theirs. But I know too, that I would turn blue holding my breath waiting long enough to see that happen in the real world. I've studied American history for half a century now, and was one of the 300
anti-Vietnam war Peace marchers who made that History happen in NYC in 1969. And even I know we'd sooner see E.T.s occupy the White House before we'd see the Utopia that some want. Jan, if you read what one commenter here expressed, it sounds like the wish list of a kid sitting on Santa's lap at Macy's with the Salvation Army bell ringers in the background. Beyond the digital revolution evolving Current.com to foster the Freedom of the Press, the only revolution we're likely to see in our lifetimes is the electric car, and the family organic garden in the back yard. Theodore Roosevelt shrewdly knew how corrupt politics is as well as well as Martin Luther himself who started the Reformation. He would ask his opposition party to send their chosen to work with him. After rejecting their first 3 picks, his practice was to accept the 4 th man, because he knew he could make a compromise with him. And how is the word compromise defined but something no one likes, most believe stinks, but everyone can live with to survive. Monsanto will be its own undoing, in time.

    • Didnt really think he deserved a first term. See, the problem with the two party system is that it leaves no room for alternatives. So we just end up with two corporate controlled parties which slowly edge to the center (cause that's where elections are won after all) until they end up looking pretty much the same. Ever wonder why the same corporations give money to both candidates every election? Its because they're the ones in power. Wake up people.

Dagum, it would be best if you actually read the website. 200+ of his promises are "in the works" 15 have been broken, 96 completely fulfilled, 33 were accomplished via compromising and 85 have stalled. So no, the President has not broken 80% of his promises. He's accomplished 20% of them in his first year and over 40% are in the works.

15 have been broken 33 have been keep. About a 1 to 2 broken /kept promises ratio. But comparing affirmative lies to kept obligations is comparing apples to oranges.

It shouldn't give you much solace. He still directly broke 15 of his pledges to the American people and he has only been in office for a little over a year

Furthermore these numbers don't quantify the value of the promises he broke.

No. 234: Allow five days of public comment before signing bill, No. 240: Tougher rules against revolving door for lobbyists and former officials.

These are just two example of important promises relating to transparency and, quite frankly, his administrations ethical character yet they were tossed to the wind.

In regards to promises "in the works," for the sake of the public opinion they are as good as broken.

it was sort of a given he would be a one term wonder or blunder, taking over the mess of bush and darth chaney was sort of a damned no matter what you do job.

keep in mind obama's only change is that he can speak... his actions are a slightly smarter version of the bush admin but its the same old washington... obama is basically slick willy take two...

as long as people keep voting for the "established order" they will get the same results... the rebpubliturds and the democraps are basically the same party with diffrent banners,

The only substantive change that has taken place from Bush to Obama is the increase in the number of home foreclosures and the increase in number of people collecting unemployment. Which old folks naturally are upset about because taxing the income of the unemployed does little to fund Social security and Medicare.

While I wouldn't blindly support anyone no matter who they were, it's only prudent to wait a couple more years to see if he keeps his promises. He does have a lot on his plate. And he's learning as he goes along. Whatever you think of him, positively or negatively, McCain/Palin would have been a disaster for this Country, and the World. Bearing that in mind, so long as Barack Obama keeps his promise to recall the U.S. Attorneys, especially the maldito from the Northern District of New York, whom shithead Schumer and Dub'ya and worse wanted, I wouldn't care if Mr. Obama played Golf in Tahiti for the next 3 years, I'd still vote for him again in 2012. Think that's laughable, huh ? Try this one on for size: "Ask not what your country can do for you. rather instead ask what you can do for your country". Because if you thought the preceding statement I made was comical, you'll really think the latter hilarious.

And I'll never vote republican. No matter how much democrats piss me off with their spinelessness, I'll never go towards those who could care less about my health and only about their money, religion, and corporations.

it's been one year. many promises have been fulfilled already. you can blame bushy for our deficit woes before you even try to compare it to obama's spending. he fell into this hole and is digging our way out.

in another two years, maybe you'll have a case for promises - but you don't yet. if you want to look at numbers - add the surplus bush was given to the deficit he handed obama, then we'll look at spending for a worthless currency.

Great quote, man. " Be it ever so humble, there's no place like home ". 100 years ago the USA was anything but the World's #1 top producer of garbage and deadly weapons, but though it should bring a tear to the eyes of any patriotic citizen to admit that truth, sadly, it is so now. I worked in a recycling plant once for a while. Yet, I found Gold, Silver, Copper (which you won't even see as coined money anymore). I found U.S. currency, foreign coins, valuable art, valuable books, enough Playboy magazines to put together a vintage collection and sell that too. I routinely found enough moderately valuable items, that if I were allowed to claim them, I could clean & disinfect them, open up a trading post, and barter whatever I couldn't sell out of my garage, and have a self supporting business. Whatever we produce, we waste. Whatever we produce, we destroy. And then we vote for shitbags like Dub'ya over Gore, and wonder why the place looks a mess. I drove through Colorado Springs in 1978, and it was a beautiful place. Look at it now after all the neglect. Haste makes waste. Waste not, want not. Because the thing, or person, you're so quick to throw away is likely something which/whom you'll need someday.

      Not at all.
      Incompetent:
Inadequate for or unsuited to a particular purpose or application.
Devoid of those qualities requisite for effective conduct or action

He has been totally ineffective as a President. He promised that his stimulus bill would create jobs. The unemployment numbers continue to grow. Real unemployment topped 17%.
His "stimulus" bill was rife with waste. They included a provision for "weatherizing" houses that we now know cost us $51,000 per house. What a waste.
He enacted a "Cash for Clunkers" program that was so poorly administered it cost twice what they expected and they couldnt pay the dealers for months what they owed them.
He proposed a health care reform but didn't come up with a bill or suggestions of his own, just let those boobs on the hill screw it up.
He promised transparency and then ran one of the most fucked up, secretive, corrupt administrations we've ever seen.
His cabinet positions have been repeatedly marred by incompetent vetting, resulting in one failure after another.
He opposed the surge, then after it was in place said that it was not working, and now wants to take credit for it.
He promised you Lib fools he would exit Afghanistan and then followed the Bush surge plans instead. I actually agree with that, but was that the "change" you wanted?
He asked for a strategy in Afghanistan, got one, then got cold feet, months later asked for another, received recommendations for 40,000 troops and sent less than requested, repeated the George Bush mistake in Iraq when General Shinseki told him early on in the Iraq war they would need hundreds of thousands of troops to maintain the peace. So if this "genius" is so goddamn smart, why didn't he learn from the mistakes Bush made (and subsequently corrected)?
With complete control of the House and Senate, he failed repeatedly to find concensus and get his major bills passed.

Shall I go on? There's still more! You guys voted for a face and a color, not a skill set, and now we see the results.
Obama: "Inadequate for or unsuited to a particular purpose or application."

      http://Current.com

They have a picture of Dub'ya associated with the term incompetent, and historicaly, the facts prove that. I blogged a Current.com article recently confirming Bush/Cheny were so hot to exploit their positions of power to accumulate their own personal wealth, that they ignored and neglected the basic maintenence the USA needed even to stand still. 0 jobs were created from Jan, 21, 2001 through Jan.21, 2009. When you realize people are living longer, and still not in any position to retire.. That a larger population is producing more people coming of age, and needing jobs to be hired to support themselves...then it should be the first order of business to do whatever it takes to promote the creation of new jobs. Yet starting wars in 2 countries to fulfill his oil family dynasty agenda took precedence. And creating new jobs took the backmost burner. Did you see Current TV's cartoon caricature of the Bush Administration ? The inept, bungling, incompetent cronies Bush gave jobs to for political patronage favors eg.the head of FEMA saw Hurricane Katrina show them up for what they realy were. Though the cartoon caricatures were intended to ridicule as comedy, I knew it was tragic, and got so nauseated I switched the channel.

Most importantly, he put al Qa'eda on the run and kept them there, and his aggressive war-footing on terrorism was the right approach. Obama's Kumbaya theory of international politics has set us up for terror attacks.

    • I think CNN is 'spinning' for the right, leading ordinary Americans who support President Obama to think they are in the minority. CNN and the rest spin for their owners (corporations who benefit) from Republican rule.

Mainstream media no longer care about mainstream America. All during the Bush years, they spun 'nothing to see here, move along' and we did. Crimes went unanswered. Wrongs went unchallenged. Mainstream media has failed us, plain and simple. But, you won't hear them admitting it, because they now spin any negativity away, even from their competitors, because they are actually one in the same, using the same 'talking points'. If you watch long enough, even their commentators are inner-changeable. Glenn Beck Fox News darling, used to be on CNN.

I think it's too early to start campaigning for 2012. The Republicans do everything they can to thwart anything President Obama tries to do, then mainstream media spins it as a failure. Sad, sad, sad!

If you realy are in the minority, Conniepae, count yourself as sensible & intelligent. And
please also count that, of all but 4% of the ones who did vote, they did so for Palin and the War 0 which means this country is still in a lot deeper shit than any economic recovery could ever resolve. Because after all the extreme damage and neglect which Dub'ya & Cheny managed to wreck on the USA, things would have been a damn site worse with those 2 maniacs at the helm. As always, people should count their blessings. It's never been a matter of whether things could have been a lot better. Only realisticly a matter of whether things could have been a lot worse. Maybe some refuse to think of McCain/Palin as more rather than less worse that one more term of Bush/Cheny. But simply because the law prevented the identity of Bush from remaining in the white house, doesn't mean that much would have changed anyway. The Corporations have been controling the Gummint so much for so many years by now that who can realisticly say that things realy could have changed that much. They can make virtualy anyone resemble Homeboy D. Clown on the TV series, In Living Color. When you take into account how overwhelming the gas lobby was to inhibiting Edison from lighting up NYC with the first electric light bulbs, it's a miracle that realisticly ever changed either when it did.

It's obvious to anyone who simply looks at what he has done (or NOT done) to see that he is a total and complete failure. With a super majority in the Senate and total control of the house, the Dems, led by Obama were incapable of accomplishing one single thing. He claimed to be a candidate of concensus, but he can't even get his Democrats to agree. Why? Because Obama is too arrogant, inexperienced and incompetent to realize that he can't simply decree that America will do as he says, against the wishes of the Center Right country.

yes and his refusal to bring the Bush administration to justice for war crimes, his refusal to get rid of the Patriot Act,which takes away our Constitutional rights, his bailout of banks and corporations with our money, all this is criminal as far as I am concerned! he has done nothing, not one thing ,to make america a better place, in fact he has made sure that the right wing nut jobs get back into the power in 3 years! "change we can believe in" what a crock!
