Dubai 'hit squad' used fake Israeli names, EU passports

A few weeks ago we asked if Israel assassinated a senior member of Hamas in Dubai. Authorities in Dubai had blamed the death by electrocution of Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, a senior military operative of Hamas on assassins who then fled the country. Well this week the plot, it seems, has thickened. Dubai investigators released this video from CCTV cameras they say show the 17 member hit squad.

Eleven of the suspects names have been released as well as their passport photos. They were (unsurprisingly) traveling under fake names - the names of Israeli EU passport holders who deny any involvement in the affair. Here are the photos.

Israel for its part denies having anything to do with the killing, though no one expects the Mossad to come out and claim responsibility anyway. The best backgrounder on this thus far comes from True/Slant's Neal Ungerleider (love that guy!) who writes:

The Israeli intelligence agency certainly has the motives and the means. The modus operandi also fits prior Mossad operations. However, certain facts don’t add up. Mossad agents have had a long presence in the United Arab Emirates, which Israel has long held discrete economic and trade relations with. Presumably, had the Mossad been responsible, agents who had staked out the hotel prior would have been aware of the locations of both public and hidden CCTV cameras. The agents caught on camera, while highly professional, engaged in some odd behavior. The donning of fake beards and glasses in view of security cameras is one. Using the names of Israeli citizens for fake passports is another — what security agency would implicate their own citizens? Additionally, there is always the possibility of a false flag operation — where a foreign intelligence agency killed al-Mabhouh for their own purposes, while making it look like a Mossad killing.

But who could possibly want to implicate Israel in an assassination? (I kid.) Who do you think is responsible? Take a wild guess? Sloppy Mossad operatives? False flag flying Iranian Revolutionary Guardsmen? Give us your best Dubai assassination theory in the comments.

    • It's wonderful news that Mahmoud Mabhouh has been dealt with. As for the twaddle about the assassination being "extra-judicial" the 1942 killing by Czech agents of SS killer Reinhard Heydrich was also “extra-judicial". Mabhouh, like Heydrich, was a murderer and the representative of a despicable anti-semitic organisation dedicated to the extermination of the Jews. Mabhouh, like Heydrich, was responsible for the murder of innocent Jewish men, women and children. Mabhouh, like Heydrich, was a legitimate target. Mabhouh, like Heydrich is history. Thank God someone has the guts to rid the world of these fanatics.

Some comments here amount to incitement to racial hatred.

According to reports, Mabhouh oversaw the smuggling of Iranian long-range rockets into Gaza, enabling Hamas to threaten the densely populated Gush Dan region, home to more than three million Israelis and the scene of the country’s financial hub. The condemnation of the eradication of someone who was planning to murder untold numbers of innocents (Mabhouh was apparently en route to procure Iranian missiles capable of hitting Tel Aviv from Gaza) is the embodiment of hypocrisy. If, apart from eradicating a terrorist before he could further assist mass murder, the operation was intended to give a message to bad guys everywhere that they will be successfully hunted down, it was a striking success for whoever carried it out – so much so that if Israel was not behind this, it would undoubtedly want its enemies to think that it was.
The picture above is of one of Mabhouh's victims, a child murdered by a Hamas missile in Sderot.
This is clearly a case where the end justifies the means and any time Mossad wants to use my passport to carry out another one, be my guest.

    • While both Israel and Palestine are equally guilty of horrible crimes, I applaud the assassination of this terrorist: no innocent by-standards were killed.

It was neat and clean. I say bravo, and I challenge Hamas to be equally surgical in their next attack. Let them have at each other without threatening and harming innocent civilians.

      I second that emotion
surgical warfare between assholes and corporations
but I still think those people didn't look very Israeli either,
The Saudis and royals in the region have LOTS of money, maybe he was plotting to do something in Dubai?

    • More Jewish spin, Jimmy?
Let's just round up these terrorists from their pictures and Guantanimo, them. Maybe some drones should seek them out, possibly women and children will be wiped out but terrorists shouldn't be using them as shields then.

    • Amazing isn't it how the Islamophile Liberal Elite are united in their criticism of Israeli intelligence, the CIA and MI5. All these people are surrendering us to the Islamic thugocracies.

It is also quite possible, given the ineptness of the team involved and the rush to condemn Israel by Dubai, that the whole action was a set up - with the Syranian axis getting revenge on a recalcitrant Palestinian.

    • It really doesn't matter who killed this Islamonazi animal. He's dead....that's what counts and it's something to celebrate. His killers should be hailed as heroes. But of course, those that hate life turn their venomous attention on the brave warriors defending freedom and innocent women and children. I imagine these cowardly pricks snapping their jaws at Mossad enjoy action movies in their spare time watching various baddies getting blown away by Bond and other agents but in real life condemn just and righteous action, hiding behind a craven peacenik veneer of hypocrisy and double standards.

    • Funny how all the jewish people pretend like there's a possibility that it wasn't Israel. The world knows the truth, dont lie to yourself. And they wonder why Anti Semitism around the world is growing.

Israel counter to Anti semitism.... a propaganda campaign on TV. This isn't the superbowl Israel.

Whats wrong is wrong, dont condone a evil act, just because its your race.

    • LowDog:

      LowDog,

      Your name suits you well.

What is your complaint exactly? I have no doubt that you condemn Israel for attacks in Gaza and the West Bank for sometimes killing civilians, but when a high level enemy of the state is discretely targeted and not a single other person is killed or injured you also condemn it.

By this logic It is proven you support Hamas - do you also support the oppressive Iranian regime that funds them with cash and weapons?

The idea is that Hamas would have had nothing to catalyst it to this point if it weren't for the acts committed by occupation, relocation, genocide, racism and hostility. Fact check

    • Israel is a terrorist state. At least the British have the guts to say so, kudos. From now on Israeli travellers will have to be treated as possible terrorists and be subject to appropriate profiling and interrogation.
