VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Shani Davis became the first ever to defend his Olympic title in the men's 1,000-meter speedskating Wednesday, winning the gold medal with a dominating showing.

Mo Tae-Bum of South Korea, the Olympic champion in the 500 earlier this week, took silver. Chad Hedrick of the U.S. earned the bronze.
