Millions Of Canadians Will Soon Be Eating Mouse/Pig Hybrids

Image
Revelation1217
The Canadian government is on the verge of approving the introduction of extremely bizarre genetically modified pigs into the Canadian food supply. These new mouse/pig hybrids have been dubbed "enviropigs" and are being touted as being much better for the environment.

    • This article fails because the author's reasoning comes down to this: We shouldn't eat clones/hybrids because God said not to.

Now, I am all for regulation, and I think the FDA needs to step up.

      But I am not anti-GMO/clones/hybrids.

Why? Because these technologies *can* provide clear benefits to humanity and the environment. Yes, there are risks. I know GMOs can be and have been dangerous. I know Monsanto is totally ebils. But, I will not submit to fear. I am not going to give up on technologies that *can* resolve world hunger or reduce biological emissions (as in this example).

I'm starting to get the impression that many of those against such things are nothing more than purists. All food should be 'organic' and 'natural,' right? But nature is full of 'natural' mutations which result in things just as bizarre as what comes out of the lab. Evolution itself is the result of genetic mutation. What is so wrong with steering this in our direction, especially if no animals are harmed and it might actually prevent future animal exploitation?

With such technologies, we may even be able to bypass livestock altogether. Imagine if we could provide synthetic meat and never have to kill for food again.

Yes, these technologies should be regulated, but no, they should not be rejected altogether.

    • This article is disturbing. I dont want to eat mutated gene spliced animal meat. I'm already pissed off at not being able to buy vegetables and produce without wondering what the future will tell us about GMO's.

Is it current or is EVERYTHING going wrong in the world?

also, did they say pigs mixed with human genes? for sale as food? shouldn't everyone everywhere see that as extremely f**ked up?

do i have to buy my own live pigs to know what i'm eating?

    • Wait, Canada? My country?!

Our government's been closed for a little while - due to our PM trying to avoid Afghan detainee details >_> - so I dunno if it'll be easier or harder to get this stuff into Canada...

But regardless of that, really?! Can Canada at least have the common courtesy to place a label on this evil thing so I can totally avoid it?

    • Probably not a popular opinion, but I'm all for altering our world in a effort to make it better as long as no one is harmed. Obviously the pigs are harmed, but that's a different ethical discussion. Also it isn't a Mouse/Pig hybrid.

If you decide to go vegan, check out www.veganpeace.com. Really well thought-out site.

Take your time with it. No need to go cold with the switchover. Believe me, I was a vegetarian since I was 12, and knew absolutely I would never, EVER become a vegan. There was NO way I was going to give up cheese, for instance. And then a little over 15 years ago, I DID go vegan. Here in the USA, we've got plenty of tasty substitutes, and there is so much other great food out there. Oh, and I still create all sorts of fabulous meals using "cheese." I'm especially adept at making many Mexican dishes in a vegan way. Enough PREACHING!!!

Good luck if you do try out veganism. You can always check out that new current group, "Veganism," too.

For me, I'm hating/loving all these reports on animal abuse, exploitation, cruelty, etc., because more and more good-hearted people ARE beginning to realize we can make a difference.

    • dumb. they're not hybrids, read the article! this is called transgenetics... it's not making a hybrid it's simply awgmenting the pigs by adding mouse genes. why are people working on this sort of thing? maybe farming animals isn't really the gretest idea anyway?

    • We don't know what's in our food anyway's? We all have probably been eating for year's already! I worked at the meat packing factory, and if you eat hamburger or sausage, it's everything that goes into that meat, tail and and all, hoofs, the whole body in beef hamburger and Pork sausage, I see it for myself!

    • I question this.
Glow cats and fish exsist yes. And maybe even the spider goat thingys.

But human pigs do not exsist, and the article didn't convince me on how a mouse-pig is supposed to be envriomentally friendly.
      I'm not convinced.
