If you ask Republicans, the answer is an emphatic “NO.” The likes of former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, Minority Leader John Boehner, and the newly-minted Sen. Scott Brown (just to name a few) have all claimed that the Recovery Act “didn’t create one new job.” Are they right?"

Right JohnA, it is difficult to measure the job impact. But critics tend to conflate this measurement difficulty with a lack of effectiveness. This notion that "we can't know exactly how many jobs were created or saved, therefore no jobs must have been created or saved" is total crap. It's hard to determine ANY policy impact!
But all the data out there shows that the Recovery Act has helped tremendously. The fact that we were on a trajectory to lose millions of more jobs than we actually lost--and that trajectory changed at the exact moment that the Recovery Act hit the economy--should tell us something.
Besides, a lot of these projections are done by prominent PRIVATE forecasters. If these forecasters were so wrong, wouldn't conservatives believe that the free market would weed these forecasters out of the market? How could a perfectly free and efficient market allow for such forecasting hackery? Or, perhaps, the private forecasters are correct, and they are prominent and successful in the free market because they don't allow their ideology or financial interests interfere with their economic analysis?
