Senator Reid: Apologize for sexist remarks!
source: http://partnerabuse.com/2010/02/23/senator-reid-apologize-for-sexist-remarks/
Reid’s remarks on the Senate floor can be seen below.
Over 250 scholarly studies show women are as physically aggressive, or more aggressive, than men in their relationships with their male partners, according to Martin Fiebert, professor of psychology at California State University.
“Senator Reid’s bizarre and unfounded statement reveals an unimaginable disconnect from the millions of unemployed Americans who are not abusive. These persons are understandably frightened about their futures and the security of their families,” notes Paul Elam, editor-in-chief of Mensnewsdaily.com. “Mr. Reid needs to apologize immediately.”

This guys apology is bogus since he has not been made to sit down with the many men who have been abused by women. For I vividly remember the day my Ex pushed me over a coffee table and broke 2 pins in my leg or the day she tried to stick me with a stake knife. Better yet let my children tell him what they have witnessed. I just hope the day comes soon when he and other government employees that work for us will sit down and hear the utter truth from the victims. Especially our VP Biden.

Hilarious on so many levels. And oh so true.

And as far as DV shelters are concerned, most of them have CPS on speed dial. I've known quite a few parents who lost their children because someone at the shelter reported them. What's a person supposed to do if they're being beaten? It's either put up with the abuse or lose their kids. That's a hard call to make. DV shelters should be a safe haven, not a wet dream for CPS workers.

While I think domestic abuse is terrible regardless of your gender, the source article states:
'Many believe current domestic violence laws unduly infringe on Americans’ civil liberties. The Washington Civil Rights Council has termed domestic violence programs the “biggest civil rights roll-back since [the] Jim Crow era.” '
I'm having a hard time with that comparison.
And so men's groups demand an apology because his statement is.... right?

For every one man beaten by his spouse, three to four women are beaten by their spouses.
Real men don't whine.

TO START I love your screen name. that is hilarious.
secondly, I'm also a bit...perplexed...by the comparison of Jim Crow laws and domestic violence laws. I would tend to agree that this is an "unfortunate" comparison, to use the common euphemism employed by so many politicians.
one thing about that study. I glanced through it and was a little put off by the fact that they automatically considered a "slap" of a "child" as abuse. "One-third of women were slapped by a parent"
While we spanked when the children were small, as they matured and grew to understand the reason behind the rules we slowly weaned them off that punishment except in more extreme cases where it was necessary. Likewise, we made a policy of NOT slapping the chldren, but in a couple of cases where the child directly and purposely disrespected a parent, there have be mild slaps in response. I don't think it's abusive to slap a child who openly defies a parent as a test of authority. If you tell a child something like "please pick up your room" and they respond with "F you", there are several ways of handling it, but a quick slap to the face is NOT, in my opinion, "abuse". Or if a child spat upon a parent, or some other behavior.
I can't remember what it was that got my kid his face-slap. It was something similar to that, although not exactly what I described because that kind of language and behavior is simply not tolerated and they know it. SO in 10 years that has only happened MAYBE twice.
My point being, if you start with the premise that a face slap is "abuse", or a spanking is "abuse", you can skew the results of the study in a way that a "reasonable person" would not agree with.
BTW, there is NO physical conflict between me and my wife, nor do we ever call each other names. 11 years of marriage with the periodic heated argument, but none of that. So I think we're doing pretty darn well.

So what would you do if it was a grown woman who said the same thing? What does she deserve?

ahh, another tool to the general rhetoric and statistics gathered by going into all women abuse shelters!?
sorry, but abuse is abuse regardless of one's gender, it still hurts......
www.mediaradar.org has information based on real scientific and empirical data that proves there is no gender disparity in DV.... laws that dertermine an arest should be made based on gender regardless of the circumstances do have certain similarities to laws that demaded arrests be made based on someones race.....

MFT, you know, even though I think he's (Reid) a narrow minded leftist Charlton, and his remark was sexist and stupid, but - enough of this continual politically correct bullshit already! Let them stick their freaking feet in their mouths, we can sort it all out without crying wolf. . . for crying out loud. . . just saying

My husband and I use to have friends who beat up on each other all the time. They literally weren't happy unless they were beating the shit out of each other. They got into this huge fights over nothing. Once it was because she had a key on her key ring that she didn't know what it was right off hand. It turned out to be a key to an after hours depository at the bank. He claimed it looked like a motel key. At first I thought they were joking. The next thing I know all hell breaks lose. We all went to the beach together and it was miserable the entire time. I got stuck watching the children all the time so that they could scream and fight. I'd had enough and we found new friends. I don't get why people like fighting. I personally hate it but many the time I saw her pick fights just to get one started. They weren't happy unless they were fighting. After a while, you just don't feel sorry for them anymore.
