Arizona Rep.: Blacks Better Off as Slaves

Image
unimatrix0
Asked today by a conservative blogger about the role of race in the hyper-partisan, talk-radio-addled atmosphere in Washington, Republican Rep. Trent Franks took the opportunity to say that he thinks African Americans were better off under slavery. Go here for the full interview. Some excerpts:

Slavery “is a crushing mark on America’s soul,” the Arizonan tells Mike Stark. “And yet today, half of all black children are aborted. Half of all black children are aborted. Far more of the African American community is being devastated by the policies of today than were being devastated by the policies of slavery. And I think, ‘What does it take to get us to wake up?’”

    • First off… I don’t think genocide is worse than slavery… they’re all in the same category. Folks have to live with the fact that changes have to take place, whether you like it or not [most people are "trying" to be on the good side]. This is depending on individual opinions. However; after reading comments about this post, all I can say is… WOW!!!! WOW!!! As an African American, I wonder what goes on (conversationally speaking) “behind close doors” within non-black families. I pray and wish for the best for this land [America]. Is all about black and white, what about me as an American… regardless of the color of my skin. Be real… Be real!

    • @NoJustiCeNoPeaCe, you're definitely right. They had to have just wanted him to look bad because reading that quote, I think he wasn't advocating slavery, I think he was just saying if they faired better during slavery then we must need to adjust policies and "wake up" because there is no way someone should be better off in slavery.

Maybe, but trying to draw a comparison between slavery (coerced) and abortion (uncoerced), as Franks did, projects the image of a weak-minded individual who's more swayed by emotion than rational thought, and hence is equally WILLING to sway others via emotion vs rational thought.

So as a voter, I'd pass on this guy, if only because he comes off as a bit of a right-wing pro-lifer, one of those "screw the facts, as it's God's work I'm doing" types. FAIL.

    • Whoever titled this article just wanted to slander this congressman. As an african american progressive, the congressman was not racist per se, but more ignorant and lacking facts to back up his assertion that a majority of young black women are killing their babies by having abortions. Personally what a woman chooses to do with her body is totally her choice and the only reason any man should have a say about what she does is if he is a doctor. Otherwise men should stay the hell out of this personal decision making process.

I digress. The point he made should have been factually based & backed up with numbers. If this arizon rep had bothered checking any facts before opening his mouth he would have found out that WHITE WOMEN not BLACK WOMEN have the vast majority of abortions state to state. This might not be the case if the population is predominently black, but in all states where white are the majority of the population (which is every state in the union except for the District of Columbia [I

So I found the Guttmacher study, which indicated that 43% of pregnancies for blacks ended in abortion (35% for Pacific Islanders/Asians, 25% for Hispanics, and 18% for Whites). So not quite "half" as the Senator claimed, but close enough.... Just wondering where his concern is for all the Asian and Hispanic abortions, as well?

The study found that while more white women had abortions, black women were more likely to use abortion as a form of birth control, i.e. have MULTIPLE abortions. So while more whites overall had abortions, they were more likely to have only ONE abortion, and then use birth control. While black women were less likely to have abortions, those that did so were more likely to have multiple abortions.

All of which is interesting, but leaves me with a big "SO WHAT?" Does this imply racial genocide? Are humans, regardless of race, on the verge of extinction? Hardly.

Bottom line: until these right-wing pro-lifers are willing to personally accept the expenses of raising all of these otherwise-aborted babies until they reach the age of 18, without inflicting ANY of the costs on the rest of us (via taxes to pay for social welfare programs), I say they should butt out and not inflict their moral and religious viewpoints on MY pocketbook. They want to save babies as their religious viewpoint, then they should PAY for it, not me.

Furthermore, they need to ensure they're providing loving and caring guidance and role models so the otherwise-aborted children don't grow up to become amoral criminals who'd kill you without so much as a blink. If the natural mother decides not to bring the child into the world, then good luck if you're willing to 2nd guess HER decision, and force her to bring a child into the world against her will....

Yeah, the headline saying how "blacks were better off under slavery" is NOT anything Franks actually said in the clip.... As you say, it's inflammatory and intended to manipulate.

Thanks, but there's no need to over-reach, folks: there's enough ugliness in the World without needing to add "writer's embellishments" to the story. (like Bill Corcoran has done, too) Vote it down, folks, as fantastic editorializing only undermines your OWN credibility.

    • While I don't agree with his stance on abortion, I'm not seeing anything 'racist' per se in his comments?

On the other hand, for anyone to declare that a white Senator from Arizona is racist simply because he dares to speak to issues facing the black constituents living in his State, IS racist, in-and-of-itself. He's not the Senator for the white folks of Arizona only, but for ALL citizens living in Arizona.

So go easy on trying to suppress others' right to free speech, even if you disagree with their opinion, as trying to squelch contrary opinions is an ugly trait, and payback is a beatch.

You're not seeing anything racist in the comment is easy to understand. The comment does not affect you.. You're not Black and your ancestors probably were not slaves in this country over 200 years ago. You neighborhood probably doesn't bare the scares of institutionalized racism and oppression that Black people have experienced for over the last 400 years.

Why should you see anything 'racist per se' in his comment ? It doesn't affect you, so it really doesn't even exist to you. That's a racist mindset within itself. If you don't see it , it really doesn't matter. I can't tell an Asian, Arab, or Hispanic what is, what should or should not be deemed as a racist comment to any of them, especially if I'm a part of a race that made up all of the rules for everybody else. The ruling party (people) has always had a hard time accepting his wrongs. He's always been too busy pointing the finger, and playing judge and jury for everyone, kind of like what you and some others are trying to do on this topic. You've given yourself permission to determine what is and isn't offensive to other people and their cultures.

What does that make you ?

As far as your dad being Black, well OK. You obviously identify yourself with being Black or the One drop rule, and that's cool too. I was engaged years ago to a (mulatto) who described herself as you do. She got a free pass on some things from Whites because of her Skin tone, then too sometimes Black women were harsh on her because they felt that she always got a free pass. Sometimes she did use that pass. Not a big deal. What was an issue with me was her feeling that she always had to intercede on behalf of Whites to get their message ( whatever it was) across to Black people, just as I feel that you're trying to do with me right now. You don't find that many over 200 lbs.,6 foot,dark-skin Black men in corporate America. That's a fact. Most Black people in corporate America are mostly women or small light skin men. House Negroes. That hasn't changed. I was raised in that kind of family in Arizona. I'm not a victim. I've done damn well in life, but it doesn't change the facts.I'm not an apologist.Congressman Franks doesn't have the right to use slavery in America in an analogy in comparing the wellness of Black people's past to the future.

Don't try to keep me in line for them. You can't. If you're really not bias, show some courage.Go over to Black Enterprise,BET, or Essence and defend your position

Yeah, technically it's called a "non sequitur", which means tommic's comment has NOTHING to do with the issue at hand, as Mariased said.

I generally prefer to express this same sentiment with the more traditional and time-honored expression, "what does that have to do with the price of tea in China?" It tends to distract your opponent, as they try to figure it out. :)

Although from what I have read, his comment may not have been about slavery being better, but he was acting as though 'abortion' is a black action, which it is not. Many white women have abortions also. It's a personal issue, not color related. The mere mention of abortion and slavery is in it's self, racist. Just saying.... don't act as though black women are the ones having abortions. Women of all colors have chose abortion.

    • I could not open the video, so I will not comment. However, I can recommend a book that I read recently. "The Bull Whip Days", a commentary on the experiences of slaves prior to the Civil War. It clearly defines the misery endured by slaves at the hands of their masters. It also references quotes from slaves of the more generous owners. However, overall, slavery was a terrible institution. It has burdened both blacks and whites in America since it's inception. White's suffer from guilt and Blacks are rightfully resentful, hopefully, one day the past can be forgiven and we can all move forward to a better life.

Regarding U.S. social policies? Clearly they are a failure at certain levels. I do not favor welfare of any kind except for short time support, age,or disability. I encourage a family unit with equal job/education opportunities for all. I approve a man being able to support his family and have respect from his wife, children, church, and community. Our programs should be designed to provide support for Americans needing jobs to give them some sense of pride and productivity. The outsourcing of American jobs and the hiring of illegal immigrants at sub-standard wages is just another form of slavery.
      Rant over!

    • MoonLoon:

Excuse me? Rightfully resentful? Slavery was abolished in 1865. Now if they're resentful over racism, then that's understandable. Where's the pity for prostitutes, who are, for all intents and purposes, slaves? Why isn't anyone getting pissed off about the fact that nearly all anti-abortion movements are exclusively white and republican? Why isn't anyone resentful towards the Planned Parenthood employees caught on tape welcoming donations specifically for aborting black children? What about the fact that abortion clinics are more heavily concentrated in black neighborhoods? What about Planned Parenthood's reaction to the super bowl ad that featured 2 black athletes discouraging abortions with a commercial of their own featuring Sean James and Al Joyner? Rep. Trent Franks was making an observation more on abortion, not slavery.
I'm actually pro-choice, but when I saw that 40% of the USA's abortions are performed on black women who make up only 18% of the population, I said to myself,"Gee, what's up with that?"
And I guess it could be something other then policy, like the higher rates of sexual violence in the black community, but is that really all?

I dare say from an economic standpoint, slavery makes no sense nowadays: the 'owner' is forced to provide housing, health care, food, etc. in essence having to take care of their property, and assuming the risk of catastrophic loss (illness, etc).

Instead, allowing people the "right" to fend for themselves allows a businessman to hire people as needed, but not assume the burden of maintaining them as "their" property. The only way slavery makes sense from an economic sense is if it's conducted in such a merciless capitalistic manner than it becomes nothing more an inhuman exercise in cost-cutting (much like how raising cattle is a business).

The MAIN reason Bush was for illegal immigration (despite 9/11 security concerns about porous borders) was simple: cheap labor sources favor big business, pure and simple.

The easiest way to break labor was simply to allow tons of illegals to live in-country, also giving employers the benefit of shifting health-care costs to ERs and taxpayers (via social service agencies).

However, now that our economy is tanking, many illegals are heading home: without a job, there's no possibility (or reason) to stick around.

As I mentioned in an earlier comment, 60% of human trafficking is for sex slaves. These numbers are hard to estimate because there is always trouble measuring illegal activities, but in 2001, the FBI estimated 700,000 women and children were trafficked worldwide, UNICEF estimated 1.75 million, and the International Organization on Migration (IOM) merely 400,000. In 2001, the UN drastically changed its own estimate of trafficked people in 2000 -- from 4,000,000 to 1,000,000. Other sources (albeit unconfirmed ones) claim it to be more along the lines of 25 million.
And if you've read any of the survivor stories, it seems the buyers aren't too interested in the health of their slaves.

    • I cannot believe that this man had the nerve to say those things. The ignorance and hypocrisy is just too great to fathom.

There are many reasons women have abortions but mostly it's to due to social and economic factors (i.e they are living in a bad situation and without adequate funds to support a child). And if those children had been born into such circumstances his party would be shouting and complaining loudest about the strain on the system which would have to support those children.

The millions of dollars that are spent by these anti-abortion morons trying to guilt trip girls into having babies could be used to support the poor children who have been born and abandoned. Why is it that they only care about the unborn children and not the ones that are here and suffering. Confused priorities if you ask me.
Plus if they would advocate better sex education instead of pushing abstinence in schools chances are there would be fewer accidental pregnancies.

    • Female hangings 1632 to 1900.

It is thought that altogether around 50,500 women were put to death in the U. S. between 1608 and 1900. At least 1,800 teenage girls were hanged. Hannah Ocuish being, at just 12 years old, probably the youngest person to be executed in America. Rebecca Nurse was the oldest at 71. more...

A SELECTION OF WOMEN OF COLOR HANGED
July 31, 1735 - 23 year old Patience Sampson, a Native American, was hanged at York, in Maine for the murder of 8 year old Benjamin Trot, whom she had hurled down a well where he drowned. (She was the second woman in this state, a Mrs. Cornish having been hanged there for murder in 1644, but there are no other details of her crime.)
On May 3, 1738 - 27 year old Catherine Garrett, a Native American, was hanged in Connecticut for murder.

July 26, 1781 - 35 year old Molly Glass, an African American, was hanged in Louisiana for murder.

On December 20, 1786 - Hannah Ocuish, a Native American, was hanged in Connecticut for the murder of another child. She was the youngest girl to be executed in America, at just 12 years and 9 months old. She was convicted in New London of beating and choking 6 year old Eunice Bolles to death out of revenge. A few weeks previous to the killing, Eunice had reported Hannah for stealing fruit.

September 30, 1814 - 20 year old Mary Antoine, a Native American, was hanged in New York for murder.

September 30, 1838 - A 19 year old African American, named Mary, was hanged in Missouri for murder.
April 26, 1844 - 16 year old Rosanne Keen, an African American domestic servant, was hanged in New Jersey for murder.

September 22. - 1848. A slave, known only as Celia, became the first and only woman to be hanged in Florida. She was executed for the killing of her master, Jacob Bryan, whom she battered to death with a hoe. It has been suggested that Celia was Bryan's daughter.
December 11, 1849 – 25 year old Phoebe (Shepherd), an African American, was hanged in Alabama for murder.

September 10, 1852 - Jane Williams and her husband John, both black slaves, died side by side for the slaying of their master's wife and child at Richmond, Virginia. The execution drew a crowd of 6,000. The state offered to pay Jane's owner $500 compensation for taking away his property by executing them!

February 26, 1858 - On this day 30 year old Jenny (Hall), an African American, was hanged in Virginia for murder.

March 5, 1858 - 40 year old Lucy (Dougherty), an African American slave, was hanged in Texas for murder.

On the 26th of April 1861 - Paula Angel, a 19 year old Hispanic girl, was hanged by Sheriff Herrera in San Miguel County, New Mexico for the murder of her married boyfriend, whom she had stabbed to death when he refused to leave his wife for her. She was taken from the jail in a wagon to a suitable tree from which she was to hang. When they arrived at the place of execution, Paula put up such a fight with the sheriff as she stood on the back of the wagon, that he had to start over and get her properly tied up before he could draw the wagon from under her.

Friday, November 13, 1863 - Chipita Rodriguez was hanged from a tree in Texas for the ax murder of horse trader John Savage. She was taken to her execution on that Friday afternoon sitting side saddle on a horse and wearing a new blue dress made for her by the town's women. She denied her guilt to the last and after she had said her final words "No soy culpable" (I am not guilty) the horse was led away from under her.
On March 10, 1865 -17 year old Amy Spain, an African American, was hanged from a tree in the town of Darlington, South Carolina for treason and conduct unbecoming a slave. When she heard that the Union army was close at hand and would occupy the town she expressed her satisfaction by clasping her hands and exclaiming, "Bless the Lord the Yankees have come!" For her it should have meant the end of slavery, but the townsfolk saw it differently.

February 7, 1868 - Youth was no bar to execution in the 19th century! On this day, a 13 year old African American girl, named Susan, was hanged in Kentucky for murder. She was a babysitter and was accused of killing one of her charges. According to a local newspaper she "writhed and twisted and jerked many times." It was reported that many "solid citizens" asked for a piece of her hanging rope for a souvenir after they cut her down.

February 10, 1871 - 17 year old Mary Wallis, an African American, was hanged in Maryland for murder.

November 26, 1875 - 24 year old Alcee Harris, an African American, was hanged at Ouachita, Louisiana for murder. Afraid that her husband, Henry, was going to kill her after they had been quarrelling, she persuaded a friend, Toney Nellum, to kill him with an ax. Both confessed to their parts in the crime and they were executed side by side on a gallows set up outside the courthouse, in front of a crowd estimated at 5,000. Alcee wore a white dress for the hanging. Both prisoners were given quite a short drop and while Alcee died fairly quickly, Toney struggled for some time after the trap fell at 10:26 a.m. on that Friday morning.

April 22, 1881 - A crowd of about 100 gathered outside the County Jail in Lunenburg County, Virginia for the private hanging of Lucinda Fowlkes (black, age unknown) who had murdered her husband with an ax. It was alleged that her husband abused her.

June 23, 1882 - Lucinda Tisdale (black, age unknown) became one of four people hanged this day at Kingstree, South Carolina. She was executed beside Anderson Singleton for the murder of his wife (who was Lucinda's sister). Two other men were hanged for arson and robbery from the same gallows later in the day.
October 19, 1883 - 18 year old Margaret Harris (black) was hanged at Calhoun, Georgia for poisoning a young girl called Lela Lewis. Some 3,500 people came to witness this execution, including many women.

January 21, 1888 - 19 year old Pauline McCoy, an African American, was hanged in Alabama for the murder of Annie Jordan, a teenage white girl. The apparent motive was to steal Annie's shoes.

January 22, 1892 - Caroline Shipp (age 18, race unknown) was publicly hanged in Gaston, North Carolina for murder. She was given a handkerchief to hold and then drop when she was ready for the trap to be sprung. The girl kicked long enough that two men came forward to pull on her legs. Caroline was left hanging all day, and it was reported that people brought their picnic lunches to her execution!
Also on this day, Margaret Lashley and her boyfriend James Lyles (both black) were hanged in Danville, Virginia for the murder of Margaret's husband. Margaret had been convicted of being an accessory to the murder.

On October 7, 1892 - 14 year old Milbry Brown, an African American, was hanged in South Carolina for killing a white child. Her age is disputed and she may have been 18 rather than 14 years old.
November 22, 1895 - Amanda Cody (black) and Florence English (black male) went to the gallows in private at Warrenton, Georgia. These two were having an affair and were hanged for the murder of Amanda's husband, Cicero.

Sadly this is true. Because yes, slavery sucked and was not fair or "right" or justified in any way--but at least the slave children were being born and could then carry on and make a better life for themselves than their parents had or their grandparents could only dream about.

And even though its poorly worded -- it at least shows he has thought about this issue instead of dragging out the same old blah blah BS Republican or conservative talking points that Roe vs. Wade should be overturned or we should advocate killing abortion doctors to show killing babies is wrong or we should completely ban ALL abortions no matter what the reason.

You don't have a fucking clue as to just how bad slavery was in America 200 and 300 years ago or how bad Black people have it right now in America.

Who told this jackass that he's qualified or has the right to speak for Black people, whether it be in regards to our past, the present or the future ? I don't care how bad we have it now, nothing compares to just how bad slavery was. Abortion affect people of all races and from all walks of life. Exactly what do you mean by "it never existed the way it did in America"?

Do you mean the fact that my great great grandfather was a slave? He was a white man from Ireland. Actually it was called indentured servant. However, many times these ppl were treated much worse than actual slaves as they only "cost" the transportation fare to get them here. This made them cheaper than slaves from Africa. No what I said was--slavery is wrong and basically even though this guy said what he said in a inarticulate and kind of silly way--he DID at least acknowledge he is/was willing to do some independent thinking on the impact of abortion in this country rather than just hauling out the same lame talking points that have always been used before by old white men. Thus while I don't agree with him in the exact details -- I am glad he opened the door for dialogue and a new direction in the discussion of the issue of abortion.

So basically--read and or listen to the actual unedited point HE was trying to make-- and then re-read my comment-- and then if you still don't get it--then that's your issue not mine.

Also whether I am pro-life or pro-choice or whether I am fucked up -- is really none of your business and seriously off topic.

The mere fact that you don't think that he was being racist shows me just how low consciousness, moral fiber and lack of social awareness has really dipped in America. You don't have a fucking clue as to just how bad slavery was in America 200 and 300 years ago or how bad Black people have it right now in America.

First off unless you are over 100 years old yourself--you have no "fucking clue" about slavery 200-300 years ago either.

That and its actually your "low consciousness, moral fiber, and lack of social awareness" that has caused the problem because my point is right or wrong--this guy at least did some research and thought the issue through enough to form an opinion that was not simple repeating the same old lame talking points about abortion that are out there now.

And if anything I am depressed now because I see that I was overly optimistic that his comments would actually spark some interest in this issue and maybe even change the tone and open up a honest debate about the impact of abortion on our society.

I do know. I had great grandparents, that I knew, who had parents that were slaves.

How dare you try and tell me that I don't know my own genealogy. I personally witness the conditions that they lived in and had to endure. You don't know what I've seen or experienced in my lifetime. I'm not some child that blogs irresponsibly on this site.I'm 54 years old.

The video of the actual interview is one of the first posts by Iammyfathersson. The comment that started this is near the 8 min mark. I got the impression he was really trying to make a point about abortion and not slavery.

Damn straight! Tell these skid marks that they shouldn't be so injured by perceived slights, and maybe do something about existing problems like modern human trafficking (60% of them are sex slaves), protecting our planet from the random asteroid, the fact that were consuming our planets resources 9 times faster than they can be replenished, I could go on forever and I really don't want to spend that much time on you fools.

    • I think that anyone who took the time to watch this interview would see that he wasn't being racist, he was just making an observation and a comparison between then, and now. Sure, it's not pleasant to hear if your sensitive, but disliking his statement doesn't change the rate of abortions in the black community which may very well be the result of crappy policy.

Tell me exactly where in my comment do you see those words? I checked and they're nowhere in sight. Anyone else see it there? AT ALL? I think that it would be pretty fucking obvious that slavery is a bad thing, but what are you so pissy about? The chances of YOU ever becoming a slave in your lifetime are basically non-existent. Slavery is still around, but more as a sex industry than a source of labor, and I'm guessing from your pic that you're a dude so you have little to worry about. 30% of America's prostitutes are forced into it, but even still, a prostitute is not the same as a sex slave, though not far from it.
So what the fuck are YOU bitching about? Quit being such a sensitive little bitch and use your head or is REASON not important to you?

    • Well at least he spoke his mind.
I hope he does not recant his statement.
Then add, " I am not racist, I have Micheal Steele over for dinner on a regular basis. We always hang out and eat watermelon, collard greens and chittlins together on Martin Luther King's birthday."

      But truthfully is anyone surprised?
      A racist Republican?

I would say shocking but the heart of the KKK has renamed itself the Tea Party and Republicans finally have a place to which they can wear their freshly pressed white hoods.

A ling is a saltwater fish, excellent eating. "Chittlins" are fried or boiled hog intestines. They taste like noodles or pasta, however, the smell when cooking is terrible, smells like sh8t! Now you know, the rest of the story.

Actually they taste like shit. I finally realized that one day. I was 18 years old. After chewing on these chitterlings for about 20 seconds, I had a moment of clarity. I realized what I was chewing on, and I spit them out into my plate to my father's dismay.

Slaves had to eat the very worst part of the pig. That's all that was leftover by "massa".Whether they knew it or not, and whether we still know it or not, eating watermelon saved them. Watermelon is a diuretic that cleansed they're stomachs and intestines.... so much for watermelon jokes.

God was doing for them what they couldn't do for themselves.

I don't put shit, in any form, into my body today. No drugs, alcohol, hog, processed foods or none of that shit.

I have a choice that slaves didn't have 200 years ago.. I don't have to today.

Yes Keith, they do taste like shit. I ate the boiled version and could barely keep them down, but i did not want to offend my grandmother. My uncle ate the entire plate and wanted more. It is not a dish I would recommend. Corn bread, collard greens or turnip greens, chicken, sweet potatoes, and other garden vegetables were the staple of my life. Beef was a luxury not easily afforded, and rarely eaten and chicken was only served on Sundays. We mostly
ate butterbeans, field peas, squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, and various seasonal garden vegetables, especially watermelons and cantalope in the summer. I never ate a steak and a salad until I was 16 years old. Needless to say I was never very fat!

Actually that's a very healthy diet, rich in antioxidants and vitamins. I'm sure the slave owners thought they were so much advanced, and hence enjoyed their fat-laden foods.

Meanwhile, the wealthy slave-owners were no doubt stuffing their faces and giving themselves hypertension, gout, high cholesterol, etc.

Irony being, advances in equal rights mean blacks are now able to afford the same high-caloric junk food that was out-of-bounds for their ancestors: some progress, eh?

      How about this one

Who are the real racists in Washington DC?

On the Civil Rights Act of 1964:

Normally, the bill would have been referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee, chaired by Senator James O. Eastland, Democrat from Mississippi. Under Eastland's care, it seemed impossible that the bill would reach the Senate floor.

      then,

The bill came before the full Senate for debate on March 30, 1964 and the "Southern Bloc" of southern Senators led by Richard Russell (D-GA) launched a filibuster to prevent its passage.

      and,

"On the morning of June 10, 1964, Senator Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.) completed an address (filibuster) that he had begun 14 hours and 13 minutes earlier opposing the legislation (Civil Rights Act of 1964)

Byrd joined the Ku Klux Klan when he was 24 in 1942. His local chapter unanimously elected him Exalted Cyclops.[8]

In 1944, Byrd wrote to segregationist Mississippi Senator Theodore Bilbo:[10]
“ I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side... Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds. ”

      — Robert C. Byrd, in a letter to Segregationist Sen. Theodore Bilbo (D-MS), 1944, [8][11]

How many lynchin's you think Byrd attended or sponsored?

Not that I expect to change you. But my "cracker" thinking is just that, "Did these people (Democrats - white ones and the house negros educated by the whites on how to manipulate the field negros) just wake up one day and realize instead of having black Americans working our dirt fields, we can have them working our VOTE fields!!" Just thought I might "plant" a thought - what do you think?

With 90%+ of Blacks voting Democrat, they (democrat leaders) must have a real green thumb.

I first read about Robert Byrd in Readers's Digest, about 1968. This little creep politician has influenced U.S. policy for 50 years, to the regret of us all. Yet he still remains in power??? Either West Virginia is populated by the stupidest/racist people on Earth or he has the goods on the behavior of the other politicians in D.C. Yet, as a Democrat sucking the life out of taxpayers , he remains in power. A former KKK member and avowed racist, yet is still in a dominant position of Democratic policies! Hello? is the light on?
