Marriage Equality: How to use Ghandian non-violent direct action to push for Change

peterzylstramoore
If you can get past the annoying cartoon, it presents a pretty fantastic way of pressuring older generations to support gay marriage. If heterosexuals refused to marry their partners until their was marriage equality for homosexuals as well, it would be a fantastic way of pressuring older generations to support marriage equality (if they want their kids to get married).

I currently live in Canada where there is marriage equality, but I think it's a great idea for progressives in the US. If we wouldn't eat in a segregated restaurants, swim in segregated beaches, why would we support a segregated institution.

Oh noes gay people can get married in D.C.! The sanctity of your marriage is a sham now! oh wait... who the hell cares?

Why are you against equal rights? Are you afraid to lose your "dominance"?

    • Gay weddings all around, good for the economy. Streamlines paperwork too.
While we are at it, constentual adult polygamy should be legal too. How stupid to controll grownups bedrooms when we don't even have enough resources to protect out kids from REAL criminals. Come on legal people, priorities much?

The gay community was deliberately infected with HIV/AIDS in an attempt to exterminate them. It happened during the Hepatitis Vaccine trials back in the 70's in NYC.

Telling the government to get out of your bedroom is not the same thing as "wanting reckless and unaccountable disregard to safety." People are responsible for their own behavior, especially when it comes to sex. The government is overstepping its own rights and boundaries when it tells people what they can and cannot do in their own bedrooms, or with their own bodies. I'm sorry, but abortion comes under that too. Neither abortion nor same sex marriage should be a political issue, they are private issues. Telling the government they do not have the right to dictate right and wrong in these arenas is not the same thing as supporting certain behaviors that others choose. You can be against abortion and still believe it is a decision between a woman and her doctor, and no one else. Morality cannot be dictated. It doesn't work, and it never has. We are all responsible for the things we do, and there is a fine, but discernable line between what is moral and what is wrong.

      I'll name three:

      1) The liberation of the country of India from British rule.
      2) The American civil rights movement.
      2) You being allowed to speak your mind (while misspelling words) without having to run and hide from the thousands of people who would like to see you beaten to a pulp.
