I don't do anything dairy (whihc SUCKS) cause I miss it, mostly because of the way it makes my stomach feel. I'll quote diabolical44
"there are no nutrients in dairy that you can't get from other food sources."

you cannot damage your health by avoiding dairy products. there are no nutrients in dairy that you can't get from other food sources. The dairy lobby just wants you to believe that dairy products are necessary for a balanced diet. but that is a load of bullshit. If you are past the age of puberty, there is never any real reason to consume milk. No other animal on earth besides man consumes milk past childhood.

"According to experts, “no one really knows whether they are damaging their health” by avoiding these products, reports Maggie Fox from Reuters."
By the same logic, no one really knows if they are damaging their health by consuming these products. Realistically, based on how dairy is prepared in the US, your probably better off avoiding it.

The title of this post is really strange.
Now days you can just take supplements containing vitamin D and calcium or take lactaid pills or buy lactose free milk or eat cheese made with other types of milk besides cow milk--and if researchers wanted to know if more people were now lactose intolerant they could just access people's Kroger card or Price Chopper card or even a Wal-Mart card and see how many people purchased lactose sensitive products from year to year.
Also to me a better question to research with regard to this topic would be is there a correlation between the increase in the number of people with lactose intolerance and the growth hormones that some of the large commercial dairy farmers use while claiming they are perfectly safe and have no effect on the milk taste/quality?

Growth hormone is not the same as an enzyme (the lack of which causes people to poop out disaccharide of β-D-galactose & β-D-glucose from dairy products)...so no...your question isn't better...but it is really funny coming from someone using the name "Common sense please"...
I kid...I kid...(seriously, I don't mean to offend)
Actually Lactose Intolerance is utterly fascinating if you view a map of the population occurrence of it globally. Basically the domestication of the cow is a relatively recent human invention and you can see how the domesticated and when the cow moved historically with the migration of people over time. Granted there are some regions (China, parts of South East Asian, Southern Part of Africa) in which rates are between 90-100% of the local population but its still pretty cool to see. Plus it shows how humans not only change their environment, but also are changed by their environment.

Um, was this article written by a high school student?
"“There is a great deal of worry that people who avoid dairy are missing out on calcium and vitamin D that can keep their bones strong..." I'm pretty sure there are plenty of alternatives to milk...

It's easy to tell. If you get a stomach ache and diarrhea, you might just be lactose intolerant. Even if you aren't lactose intolerant and just sensitive to dairy, you shouldn't drink it if it hurts you. There is plenty of research that shows that the calcium in milk is useless because of the lack of an equal amount of magnesium. And vitamin D is much more readily available from the sun. You can just sit outside, eating a big kale salad, and you'll get all the vitamin D, calcium and many other vital vitamins!
