The line between jobless benefits and welfare

Millions of Americans have been forced to rely on unemployment payments for extended periods as the nation struggles through its longest period of high joblessness in a generation, and critics are taking aim, saying that the Depression-era program created as a temporary bridge for laid-off workers is turning into an expensive entitlement.

    • Why do we call it welfare when it is helping our own citizens. Welfare should refer to us giving billions of dollars to third world nations to help them get on their feet. Foreign aid, don't hear much complaining about it but raise food stamps for an out of work American family with children and you would think they are bleeding Ft. Knox. Why are we not screaming to help students in South Carolina that the teacher has to stop the lesson because of the noise from outside traffic. Why do we have children living in subway not going to school. Why do we have thousands of Vets that should be in nursing homes or medical centers living on the streets? We send foreign aid to almost every nation and no one notices a dime gone.
Has charity begins at home lost all its meaning?
