Former WalMart Associate Of The Year at the WalMart store in Battle Creek, Joseph Casias, showed them his medical marijuana card to no avail. "I was told they do not accept or honor my medical marijuana card," says Casias.
"I gave them everything," he says. "110 percent every day. Anything they asked me to do I did. More than they asked me to do. 12 to 14 hours a day."
WalMart spokesman Greg Rossiter explained, "In states, such as Michigan, where prescriptions for marijuana can be obtained, an employer can still enforce a policy that requires termination of employment following a positive drug screen. We believe our policy complies with the law and we support decisions based on the policy."
Sorry Joe. At WalMart you're not a person. You're just another employee number.

Illegal terms do not have to be complied with. You can sign anything you like. If a court finds it illegal the contract means nothing. Illegal is illegal. Violation of privacy is illegal. Violation of equal opportunity law is illegal. Violation of human rights is illegal. WalMart acted in violation of law. Any contract sign is inconsequential.
The use of medical marijuana in a state that has laws to allow its use is NOT illegal.

Its against walmart rules to use marijuana. It doesnt matter if it legal or illegal, its against their rules. When you are hired by them you are asked if you use cannabis or not. I love weed, but if its not allowed than dont get a job there. Walmart has done nothing wrong, so stop bitching.

If you were to agree to those terms of employment before you started. Yes. If two adults make a contract and one breaches the terms, the contract is void. so they would have a right to terminate their employment.
If you don't like the terms of employment before you start, find a job that fits you values better. Its not like this guy had no idea this could have been a possibility.

Eh! Sorry. Wrong!
If WalMart acted illegally then their rules are in violation of law and it is not necessary to conform to them. In fact WalMart can be sued for trying to enforce illegal rules.

I boycott walmart and I am happy to see they want to organize a boycott for this man with cancer, but it is so hard to take on these a-holes. People shop there because they are saving money because of the loopholes they take.

Do you actively BOYCOTT WalMart, or just not shop there? There's a difference.

How do you actively boycott? I think you mean actively protest. boycotting is just abstaining from using/supporting a given person/company/country as a form of protest.

WalMart should not get away with this - herb friendly people should boycott or write letters or something. This is not right.

Touche.
It's really a catch-22, isn't it? You'd have to be stoned TO shop at WalMart, and as you point out, stoners are generally are too stoned to care about stuff like supporting boycotts.
But the idea of stoners organizing a boycott against WalMart is hilarious: that would take some extra effort on their part.
