Is America Ready To Legalize Cannabis? It's time to vote!

Image
Conniepae
The title is not the same as the link. MSNBC's poll asks the question, 'is America ready to legalize marijuana. I personally do not use the term 'marijuana'. Marijuana is a name affiliated with the 'fear of drugs' madness. Cannabis tracks back thousands of years and has 'real' history.

Also important, when discussing legalizing cannabis, 'hemp' will also be legal. Farmers can grow and industry can utilize hemp, making environmentally friendly products.

If people were not spun with disinformation and fear things would change. It's time for the conversation.

    • It's not yet a done deal. Let's keep up the fight. The most important thing next will be to have an overwhelming turnout of people voting for legalization in any state that allows a vote on the issue.
I would caution people that just because most people support legalization that if there is only marginal support that it will hurt the movement in other parts of the country that are lagging behind. It will take an Overwhelming turnout to convince politicians that Legalization is the best thing for the entire country.
The problem is that too many people that are pro-legalization tend not to vote. If the pro-legalization public can be convinced to vote then I see a Large majority of votes to legalize it. Who actually takes the time to vote will be key. You can be sure that the churches will have programs to get people to go vote against it. They will even give people rides to the polling places. Businesses that oppose legalization and law enforcement will also have strong programs to defeat legalization and they will be turning out in record numbers to fight any form of legalization. The corporations that stand to loose big if Marijuana is legalized will pay for Millions of dollars in commercials to convince gullible people that don’t know anything about Marijuana to go out and vote against the “Devil Weed” and they will continue to spread the government propaganda and flat out Lies that have been spread since the beginning of the failed Prohibition of Marijuana. Take every chance to talk to anyone that will listen about the issue and inform them of the “Truth about Marijuana Prohibition”. If you think that just because most people want legalization that you don’t need to vote then you may as well be voting against legalization.
We need an OVERWHELMING Majority to help the rest of the country. Too many politicians are only concerned with their personal agendas so we need them to see the kind of support there is for legalization to make them take a serious look at it in other parts of the country.
Let’s make this happen people. The opportunity is here and we will be lucky to get this one chance to right this terrible wrong. When you get the chance you Must VOTE!!!

Okay, but how about you consider the rest of the country and not just yourself? Just because you don't want to do it doesn't mean the rest of the country shouldn't be able to

Does continuing to send people who choose differently from yourself to PRISON in order to feed your holier-than-thou attitude interest you? Think for one second about how your ignorance affects others, and perhaps you will grow a bit as a person.

    • I haven't been on this site for quite some time now but I see it's the same old crap about a bunch of potheads wishing it would be legalized... Wish in one hand and shit in the other which one will fill up first? The real tragedy is all the people in prison for drug related "crimes"... Costing the taxpayers billions of dollars...

the shit will come first.....we still live in america. the people that made the laws are still in charge.

not only is the current prison situation costing billions, but we are started to privatizing our prisons. how can private companies, that trade on wallstreet, control our prisons......?!!! talk about conflict of interest.

times are a changing....private prisons, corporate decided elections, full body scans, and loss of basic constitutional rights. NWO looks safe doesn't it

The poll was from the 3:00 pm MSNBC News Live yesterday. They said they would be covering it this week. Today they are covering prostitution. I don't know if they will discuss the poll from yesterday. I would hope they talk about the percentage of viewers who have voted for cannabis re-legalization.

I won't be home at 3:00 today, but I have set my recorder to watch it later tonight.

      9,734 votes
      98.2% - Yes

      182 votes
      1.8% - No

Just think how high the numbers would be if everyone who consumed cannabis were willing to come out of the closet and vote.

    • Hemp is used in some of the strongest rope,it makes good clothing & it can be used to fuel cars! I would say those are all things that are a plus in my books! But it doesn't seem like hemp is even the real issue here!!! People are wanting the type of cannabis that people smoke! I have very mixed feelings about that!!! One one hand, Yes! It has been found to help out some people with some severe ailments,BUT...Most people are just looking to get high!!! Cannabis ,by it's self is a pretty powerful drug, but does less harm then cigarettes, but these days it's often mixed with much stronger drugs, some of which up the DHT (the chemical that gives people hallucinations !) When you up the effects of DHT the results can, in some cases, actually be very deadly!!! So there are some good & some bad things about this,& it's not an easy issue to just say It should be legal or it should not!!! Naturally people will tie politics & religion into ANYTHING, so you can bet that those crazy overly religious people & overly conservative people have a ton to say (SADLY!!!)

Most people are just looking to get high? Get high is such an overused term for what cannabis is. I think Carl Sagan expressed it well when he stated:

"The illegality of cannabis is outrageous, an impediment to full utilization of a drug which helps produce the serenity and insight, sensitivity and fellowship so desperately needed in this increasingly mad and dangerous world." - Carl Sagan, renown scientist, astronomer, astrochemist, author and TV host

Or Jimmy Carter when he stated:

"Penalties against possession of a drug should not be more damaging to an individual than the use of the drug itself; and where they are, they should be changed. Nowhere is this more clear than in the laws against possession of marihuana in private for personal use... Therefore, I support legislation amending Federal law to eliminate all Federal criminal penalties for the possession of up to one ounce of marihuana." - Jimmy Carter, U.S. President

    • There are many reasons why the people might be ready now. But the reason it will not happen is the government. The government does not give back money or power. Both would be lost if they were to leaglize weed. Even if the government taxed the new product it could not work because the police, dea, atf, and other agencies would lose their budget. Sorry not in this lifetime.

    • yeah, how about years ago? but the topic itself won't be on the ballot...only the names of people who promised to vote accordingly....who don't have the balls to stand up...and the voters who don't have the balls to vote them out. we should not vote on a one issue theory, but they should receive a meassage,

It doesn't matter whether they do, or do not support re-legalizing cannabis, but they should not be able to lie 'in plain sight'. Politicians have used the 'war on cannabis' for political gain regardless of facts. They are afforded the luxury of lies, with no accountability. That must stop! If it's not true, they should not be allowed to use it in their political campaigns. Honesty should be a requirement, when picking our politicians. Fire the liars!

    • Why is America so obsessed with legalizing marijuana, don't we have a multitude of more important issues to deal with. Personally, I wouldn't poison my body with a toxic chemical and I don't like anything that alters my perception. But, fcuk I am a firm believer in personal freedom and if someone whats to use drugs and drugs...let them.

You would think so. But America has 25% of the world's prison population, most of them for minor charges like marijuana possession. All that money to incarcerate victimless criminals. Wouldn't it be better to spend that money on something we really need, like killing Afghan babies?

Ha, ha your such a fcukin' jerk...I mean come on you just couldn't resist putting in "killing afghan babies". But, I do agree with you that the war on drugs is tremendous failure and waste of resources and money. Plus locking up non-violent drug users is just insane and a abuse of the legal system. Prison are huge money makers so we can count on more prison being built and more people being locked up. Also mandatory sentencing for drug offensive takes away the power of the judge. Boston has a pretty successful drug court that places non-violent drug offenders on a strict probation and closely watched rehab. Dorchester and Southie is in the middle of an epic battle with oxycotions and heron addiction. We have lost dozen of young kids to overdoses and long prison terms that rob them of their youth.

You legalize marijuana..you legalize the cartel..you move them from the shadows and the reach of the law to the board room..armed with lawyers..

if legalizing something stops it..then lets legalize murder..

you need to stop smoking dope.......

No, you legalize it, then you legalize farmland owners such as myself to profit (or fail to profit) instead of these murderers. A mere 800 acres of midwest American irrigated farmland (1 friggin farmer) could produce as much cannabis as a all of Tijuana, taking all the power out of THEIR hands. Now, given that Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, and Kansas have millions of farmable, developed, high producing acres of land, think about it, legalization of production would result in such a massive supply, prices would likely plummet, leaving no profit for the hoodlums on the border.

Did legalizing alcohol make Al Capone the world's greatest businessman? No, criminals will always prosper in the shadows. Todays criminals will simply move towards other means of profit without having to report to the tax man!

Yes, plus it keeps the conversation going. Cannabis hemp history was removed from educational material and replaced with 'Reefer Madness'. People don't know our own government made a documentary supporting 'Hemp for Victory', promoting hemp farming. Cannabis hemp has been around for thousands of years. Marijuana has been around since the start of the prohibition. They changed the name of cannabis hemp and eliminated it's history. How convenient.
