U.S. Will Read Miranda Rights To 'Corpse Of Osama Bin Laden'

Attorney General Eric Holder told Congress on Tuesday that Osama bin Laden will never face trial in the United States because he will not be captured alive.

In testy exchanges with House Republicans, the attorney general compared terrorists to mass murderer Charles Manson and predicted that events would ensure "we will be reading Miranda rights to the corpse of Osama bin Laden" not to the al-Qaida leader as a captive.

Holder sternly rejected criticism from GOP members of a House Appropriations subcommittee, who contend it is too dangerous to put terror suspects on trial in federal civilian courts as Holder has proposed.

The attorney general said it infuriates him to hear conservative critics complain that terrorists would get too many rights in the court system.

Terrorists in court "have the same rights that Charles Manson would have, any other kind of mass murderer," the attorney general said. "It doesn't mean that they're going to be coddled, it doesn't mean that they're going to be treated with kid gloves."

The comparison to convicted killer Manson angered Rep. John Culberson, R-Texas, who said it showed the Obama administration doesn't understand the American public's desire to treat terrorists as wartime enemies, not criminal defendants.

    • Bin Laden? Oh yeah! That's what this whole thing was about! It just seemed like the United States has always been at war with someone, you kind of forget who they're after or what the point of it all is.

Independence! Civil Liberties! Spreading Democracy! and Fighting the Spread of Communism! Fighting Terrorism! ---I'm pretty sure that when the U.S. was fighting the spread of communism, they sort of armed and trained the terrorists they're fighting today, as well as promoting the Zionist movement of Israel... just saying.

      "War for Peace", right?

"Kill every last one of them!" and "Let's nuke them to hell!"

What would the world be like if the United States decided not to kill every last one of its enemies?

Bringing those that do wrong to justice? What?! Not in this reality. And let this big old military just sit idly by while there are scum-bags to kill? Please... The world will never see peace until the people of the United States are damn well and ready to stop criticizing they're government and actually take the initiative to stop the military industrial complex from continuing its operations... and there is reason enough to doubt that will ever happen. How many people do you think are even considering voting this November? The Senate elections could be the U.S.'s chance to get rid of a lot of the old corrupt faces in Washington D.C., but does it seem that important to many Americans? hmmmm...

Well I certainly enjoyed this rant. Happy St. Patti's ;) hiccup...

    • Did Attorney General Eric Holder and Gen. Stanley McChrystal get caught up in a "Freaky Friday" type body switch?

You'd expect "will never face trial in the United States because he will not be captured alive." comment from a soldier not a lawyer.

And you'd think the "we would certainly go after trying to capture him alive and bring him to justice," would be something more appropriate to a lawyer than a soldier

      http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/03/17/mcchrystal-we-still-want-_n_502927.html

WASHINGTON — The top U.S. commander in Afghanistan said Wednesday that it remains the goal of U.S. troops to capture Osama bin Laden alive and "bring him to justice."

The comment by Gen. Stanley McChrystal to reporters was in contrast to remarks made a day earlier by Attorney General Eric Holder. Holder told Congress that the chances of capturing bin Laden alive were "infinitesimal" because he would probably be killed by U.S. forces or by one of his own fighters.

Bin Laden's whereabouts have longed vexed U.S. officials. But his elusive status has recently taken on new meaning as President Barack Obama pushes to try suspected terrorists in civilian courts instead of more secretive military tribunals.

Congressional Republicans are pushing back by saying that bin Laden and others like him shouldn't be given the same rights as U.S. citizens.

Holder said in House testimony that terrorists wouldn't be given any more rights than serial killers like Charles Manson. He also dismissed the example of bin Laden being given access to U.S. courts as a red herring in the debate.

"Let's deal with reality," Holder said. "The reality is that we will be reading Miranda rights to the corpse of Osama bin Laden. He will never appear in an American courtroom."

When McChrystal was asked whether the U.S. had given up on capturing bin Laden alive, he said, "Wow, no."

If bin Laden enters Afghanistan, "we would certainly go after trying to capture him alive and bring him to justice," McChrystal told Pentagon reporters from Kabul.

"I think that is something that is understood by everyone," he said.

THEY'VE GOT TOO MANY MORONS IN THE US CONVINCED.THE MILITARY NEEDS BIN LADEN AS MUCH AS BIN LADEN NEEDS THEM.

ALLAH FORBID THAT BIN LADEN DIES!!!!!!!! (ONLY INNOCENT MUSLIMS AND AMERICANS).

With respect, if by "wartime enemies" Culberson is referring to war criminals, guess what they get?

Civilian trials in international courts, just like everybody else. That's what happened at Nuremberg.

This issue is easily abated by what the alternative that Culberson is keeping his mouth shit about, a prison body outside of the justice system uncontrolled by the American public who will put people in prison simply because the state doesn't like them.

These people act like an AMERICAN JURY is about to let Bin Laden go. Not even Johnny Cochran could defend the guy. You'd be lucky if you get a jury that wouldn't MURDER him -themselves.-

    • "Obama administration doesn't understand the American public's desire to treat terrorists as wartime enemies, not criminal defendants." - How does he know that? That's what maybe Republicans want but they lost the election.

And treat terrorists as "wartime enemies"? That means, if they are captured alive you keep them in jail until the war is over. Then what? You release them? After all, they're just soldiers following orders during wartime.

    • I predict , they will find a his supposedly dead body , read the rites , and proclaim they have also found a new info on another arch villain to chase . This tactic will extend funding for the wars and show something in the way of results as well as connect it to 911 . Keep people too scared to think and keep the war machine pumping out money for the select few .

    • Why do so many people INSIST on calling Charles Manson a mass murderer? He convinced OTHER people to kill---he never killed anyone himself!
Also, I wouldn't mind my tax $$$ to go toward housing terrorists in the American prison system, as long as they are tortured hourly. Otherwise, when they find him, just kill him like this article alludes to, but maim him and torture him for a good while first. Hell---don't they need him alive for a little while to get info from him? Inserting white-hot sewing needles into testicles goes a long way...so does sandpaper on the genitals, etc. I am available for the job as Lead Torture Technician, should they ever find a need! I'd even volunteer!

    • this AG needs to be charged with treason and promptly shot for aiding and abetting the enemy!...all these enemy combatants should be tried in a military tribunal, then promptly shot...to give these guyz the rights of american citizens is a travesty...amierican lawyers can play these jury's like a fiddle (i can just hear them now "the legacy of american imperialism") ...feast upon these pix lady's and gentlemen of the jury (the lawyer shows them the most graphic pix of children, women & old men blown to bits) all taken out of context of course, but the damage has already been done!...they will have some walking away like OJ Simpson!

    • Introspective:

for someone who names themselves introspective i figured you'd ask deeper questions rather than they're bad we're good. I guess simple questions would suffice:

      1. why would a rich saudi elite decide to get his hands dirty and fight in the trenches as a rebel in afghanistan (russian invasion)?

      2. Why would someone who was supported by the US intelligence suddenly decide to wage a holy war against them?

My feelings when it becomes to ridiculous to toss out Osama to the public to work the frenzy of the masses, they'll have to find a new enemy. I really do wonder who or whom that'll be?

Nothings an accident, think about that for a moment.

well there is no good or bad, you do know that right? If you were a german in 1935 would being a nazi seem so bad, especially if you're a young german male with a family to feed? As our friend dorothy she's not a real person so there's no point in pondering her motives.
No offense but you should maybe consider the name "I just shoot" as your moniker, your current one is very misleading right now.

    • if he is captured alive he is still not a U.S. citezen. He is an extra national who has comited genocide, Piracy, extra national warfare, and has admited outright that he has comited these crimes He is not entitled to the same protections as a citizen. I would love to see him tried in a Newy York court, or at the very least taken to the Brooklen navy Yard and hung by the neck with a pigskin rope. A true insult to the pig.

    • The keystone cops can actually catch this guy, dead alive, or five years decomposed? You mean we don't have to spend eternity looking for him at $1 million per troop (x 100,000+ and counting) in 2010 dollars? What fantasy world are you living in?

America couldn't catch a Muslin terrorist if one walked up to the Pentagon.

    • interesting how Osama bin Laden is the one who was our main objective in the "war on terror" and with almost 10 years going by we haven't found this man on the planet earth, but we have gone off on many tangents while we were trying to find him. It's like we know there's a killer on the loose a mile down the street, but we decide that while we're going to take care of him, we're going to take out all the gang bangers along the way while we're at it.
