'School soup-poisoning plot' foiled

A catering assistant at the prestigious Stowe school, a private school in Buckinghamshire, has been arrested after allegedly trying to poison a batch of soup intended for pupils and teachers.

Other staff noticed a weird smell emanating from the soup just before it was served and called the police. A 58-year-old man was later bailed.

A pupil said: "The guy involved has been at the school's catering department for years and apparently had developed some kind of grudge.

"The word is that he has got some kind of mental health problem.

"The soup was ditched straight away when another member of catering smelled it. We were told not to discuss it outside school."

Reports have suggested that the soup was tomato, and the "poison" was diesel, although a schoool spokeswoman "categorically denied" both allegations. Got that? The soup was NOT tomato. Glad that's cleared up.
