"It dates from the first to second centuries," he told the Daily Mirror.
While one would expect the surface to be "pitted and rough" he said on this nail the surface was smooth.
That suggested that many people had handled it over the centuries, with the acid on their hands giving it a "peculiar finish".
Christopher Macklin of the Knights Templar of Britannia said the discovery was "momentous".
He said the original Knights Templar may have thought it was one of the nails used in Christ's crucifixion.
The nail was found together with three skeletons and three swords.
One of the swords had the Knight Templar's cross inscribed on it.

"the nail they used to crucify him."....this begs the question as to whether there was a 'him'. the only reference to this guy in history is that he was one of many 'false prophets' who lived at that time and was killed. the rest of this story was made up by the people who saw a great chance to capitalize on this.

I agree...Humans throughout the ages were and are the most corrupt, violent and the biggest liars in this universe. As for a birth certificate, the CFR has the power to falsify any document for anyone who will fill their agenda and can fool the people too. After all people are also the biggest gullible fools on the planet.in my 82 years, I wouldn't trust God either. When I look out in space and see the mess he has created if he did. No.. I prefer to worship someone who has contributed to the knowlledge and welfare of the human race, someone like Socrates, Plato, Carl Sagan or even a group of scientists who are still searching for the truth.

And then the dark ages. Talk about a bad dream from which the world can't be awoken. The abuse of humanity by abusing religious hope. A porage of the weak and the evil and the blind leading the blind.

Yeah - it's like everybody means well - they try. It's trying for the right and the good, but this religion idea, it's like you're holding on to a rock - it isn't your idea, somebody handed you the rock and you took it; maybe when you were 12, maybe 32 - but your body is walking down the path of life and your hands are holding on to this rock, way back in the past.
You're going forward but you're turned around and your arms are all spindly, stretched way back in time to that rock. And it's not true! - Let go of that anchor and get use of your arms again!
You won't lose anything that is good - only a whole big suitcase of bad. Steamer-trunk.
You don't need those false images to have your own true inner self and 'spiritual' life!
That is you! You won't lose it. That's all good stuff.
You've just had a pack of false terms hung on things from way back when.

JanforGore:
Jan, I love the Jesus that I learned about through my Gnostic Gospels. However what really concerns me is that Jesus' historicity has never been proven. There have been many archaeologists who have come forward and claimed to have found things that prove his existence, then they are debunked or is it counterpropagandized? I am not sure what to call it.
For example there is the Shroud of Turin. There are two documentaries one that says its real and another that says it was a fake. There was the whole mystery of the grail, what is it, is it a cup, a challis or a vagina? Was Mary Magdalene the Holy Grail? Why did such an order emerge like the Knights Templar to protect a secret? Why was there a counter movement within the Church headed by the Jesuits called the Priori of Zion? Why were such famous historically verified people like Da Vinci or Galileo members of the Priori? What secrets were they harboring?
The one thing that comes to my mind is the saying that "Secrecy is the beginning of tyranny." The name of Jesus and person of Jesus has been used to create a tyranny of people's souls, their minds, their spirits....some of it good....but much of it evil and bad.
I have studied extensively the history of the Roman Catholic Church which is the mother of all the Christian denominations and that study has led me to understand that Jesus was as much a political figure as he was a religious figure, let alone a savior. In fact more people have been murdered in the name of Jesus than I care to think about, because it makes me profoundly sad. The Jesus I know would never tolerate any of what is being done in his name today. It is the utter corruption of the religion and the politicizing of Jesus that makes me question whether he ever really existed at all.
But then when I read the amazing things that Jesus said and did it fills me with hope and makes me dream of wonderful things, of wonderful times to come, and what is possible if everyone followed the Golden Rule. I emulate Jesus in my personal life, I actually live the way Jesus said we should live. I pray for my enemies, I suffer with those in pain and I reach out and walk the extra mile for those in need. I do everything I can to take responsibility for the consciousness I posses and not to live with resentments or fear in my life. This is why I said that some of what has come out of the person of Jesus is good. People's lives are transformed when they actually follow Jesus sayings.
But then you run into all sorts of nastiness when you start to pay attention to the words of Paul. According to Romans and Acts, Paul never knew Jesus in the flesh, and yet Jesus came to him and gave him a new revelation, only to him? And suddenly his writings and words become more important than Jesus words? Something is wrong with this picture. Why would Jesus do that? Its completely out of character for him based on his personality profile as described in the four accepted Gospels.
I read this very interesting website the other day in Spanish about why Jewish people don't believe in Jesus. I must tell you that there was a few things that gave me cause to think.
One thing was this. If Jesus did not have an earthly father, Joseph, than how could he be an heir to the throne of David? That is a good question. But if Jesus was just a mortal man like all the rest of us, then you may be able to make a case.
Here is my bottom line opinion about whether or not Jesus was born of a virgin, was the only son of God, preached in the temple, overturned the tables of the moneychangers, worked miracles, raised the dead, then voluntarily gave himself up and was nailed to a cross and died and was resurrected, I think that whole story was made up by people who saw their power being taken away and created a mythological person to keep their power.
Now was there a human being named Jesus who did amazing things and impressed so many people and said so many amazing life changing things? I would be inclined to say YES! The human being Jesus is much more powerful than the mythological Jesus. Because it would be easy for a God to endure the suffering that Jesus reportedly went through, but it would be miraculous for a mortal human like us to endure such suffering and still pray for his enemies. That is an extremely powerful message. That is life changing.
This is why I love the movie "The Last Temptation of Christ" because it depicted Jesus the man, full of fear, worries, doubts, human frailties, love, laughter, tears, compassion. That depiction emphasized the humanity of Jesus.

Jubal,
I think Jesus did indeed exist. I believe he was married, and may even have had a bloodline. It was simply custom of the times for a Jewish man of his age to have a companion. I also believe him to be a great scholar, teacher, and a man who brought us the secrets to enlightenment. He was not here as a master, but as a teacher to enlighten us to the fact that we are all masters and teachers. For me, he is comparable to Buddha (he existed for certain didn't he, or did he?) The point I was trying to make is that no one can say with any degree of certainty that Jesus never existed. I believe the Gnostic gospels, and I believe in the message Jesus the man brought to us. That there is much more to us than this mortal coil. There are many levels of consciousness leading to the divine light within us, and only through looking into ourselves and living our lives in a way that seeks that light will we ever reach it. And while yes, I cannot say with certainty he did exist in the physical way others need to know to believe, that could be said about many others in ancient history as well. Why people need to believe he never existed is what intrigues me.

I like what you said and I concur with it. I too believe that if he did indeed exist, he was born a flesh and blood with both a human mother and a human father. I also believe that he would have been married and Magdalene was the likely wife. I too believe there is a bloodline, if indeed he existed. All of that I can get behind, provided we are talking that he was a man and also God in the sense that we are all God.

Well, like Thomas Jefferson I hold Jesus in high esteem as a great man "of God" as he taught us we all are, and tend to discount the "mumbo jumbo" of it all on all sides which is why the Jefferson Bible is a good read for those who question the teachings of Jesus Christ. I also believe he may well have been crucified, but the resurrection spoken of was not a physical one. It was a spiritual manifestation of the light he found within himself on his own journey. It was his showing his disciples and the world that gnossis was indeed the way. And of course as we already know, the Council of Nicea was hellbent on making sure that the equality Jesus preached regarding spirituality ( and including women as equals) was quashed as it represented a threat to their own power. So they sought to diminish the man he was and focus on divinity instead of humanity, which in my opinion are one. Thanks for your responses here on this.

I've heard, like everyine, about the Shroud - etc, etc. Then it was on the cover of Time Magazine.
I looked and thought the magazine cover was running a made up graphic - a cartoon of the real Shroud. But NO! It was the actual Shroud.
Obvious painted, river-like lines representing blood and that harringbone weave - nice linen! Not from Roman times - a church tablecloth - but nothing else.I know old things, it's my job. I'm real good at it -
The Shroud is 100% a fake. There's a reason they have only allowed those dingy negatives - a real, clear photo exposes it completely.
If you look at a good picture, it looks as phony as that crusifiction hanging at the top of the staircase in the Blues Brothers movie - !! :-} -True! Almost sacrilegious. Just plain ridiculous.

That is a birth certificate. Very few people in this day and age can even get a physical copy of their original birth certificates because practically every state of the union has gone digital. Certificates of live birth are what is issued to document the birth. The records are taken from the data base or the microfiche.
That is the way it is in this country.
Even the copy that I have of my birth certificate is 6 years after I was born. It has a seal on it but the document is practically crumbling into bits. I have it in an acid free sheath.

Number one, he wasn't 'raised' in America. He spent his later years in Hawaii but his earlier formative years were in Indonesia and Africa. Two, the reason I need Obama's birth certificate is because it is a requirement for the position we hired him for. Anybody else not meeting a requirement as such would be fired. Three, why doesn't he show it? Four, I checked the Kuran, the Bible, the Bill of Rights and the Constitution and I can't seem to find the part in any of them where politicians are exempt from the rules we must abide by. Yet, we allow this to happen time and time again at all levels of government and this must stop if we are ever to get to where we want to be. He should be required to show it like anyone else would, hiding it just makes you wonder, no, know something fishy is going on. He's former CIA and has proven himself to be willing to take orders from the higher ups so it's very possible he was groomed for his position, his past 'edited' and his position that of a puppet. A good Patriot asks questions, this is a big one that makes no sense for anyone to give a 'pass'. Yes, Bush was awful but we can't let more of the Constitution slide away just because we're happy to be rid of the Cheney monster.

Ummmm, again that is not a birth certificate. The date verified means also the date printed or we would be seeing a copy of the one momma or grandma kept in the file cabinet and wouldn't need a stamp. But, once again, this is a certificate of live birth which can be forged or printed at any given time. A BIRTH CERTIFICATE WITH HIS LITTLE OBAMA FEET AND A DATE AND A PLACE OF BIRTH IS WHAT I ASKED FOR. Show that or quit wasting bandwidth. You just keep it up and keep it up with your denial that he doesn't have one because he's not American. Of course Hawaii and that hospital would have no problem going along with the CIA's request for a CERTIFICATE OF LIVE BIRTH. They couldn't fake the birth certificate but anybody with access to the hospital's computer could make a CERTIFICATE OF LIVE BIRTH. Now, quit with the naivety, please.

It matters not if this is "the " nail or not to those of us who believe in the spiritual. What was crucified was a human form, not a spirit. That was the power of resurrection, not the literal translation of the Bible. Through Jesus's crucifixion was discovered the validity of the Gnostic teachings he brought us to finding true enlightenment. Factions for and against Christianity will continue this age old rivalry of what is real. In the end however, it will prove nothing either way. Only through our own introspection will we find what Jesus spoke of in regards to our reality and through that introspection we will find "god" for lack of a better word.

" Only through our own introspection" so true only though our own private, educated, personal introspection can we ever hope to reach a level of peace with both ourselves and the world around us. I don't judge anyone's belief system and couldn't careless what they think of mine.

Also, you have pegged it - your own introspection - it is the sum and total of your religious basis and all you.
The peace, the spirituality that anyone experiences - is - all from them. They are the power. They and no one else.
How many religions have there been and how many genuine believers, genuinely believing?
You see? It's you, you, you. You are more than you have been allowing yourself - YOU are that that you believe.

There must have been hundreds or thousands of these nails made. The Appian way was using crosses and crucifixions instead of guard rails but since this nail was found in Madeira and not Rome or Jurasalem, it leaves a lot of chances for a hooax.

Oi vei, I get annoyed when I see this Knight's Templar obsession in the media..
They were psychotic murderers for god, they thought they could take on whole armies by themselves and definitely didn't learn their lesson when they were continuously wiped out for trying.
Considering that the Old Church used to just pick anything up off the ground and call it a holy relic, the poster of this story has proven that even today people can be just as gullible.
Remember the "true cross" they found in -France-?
Just more deluded Templars.

Saladin:
The military dominance of the Knight Templars is definitely up for debate but The Knights Templar were the elite fighting force of their day, highly trained, well-equipped and highly motivated. The Templars were also master military tacticians using their mobility, heavy armored calvary to defeat much larger enemies. In 1177 during the Battle of Montisgisard a group of 500 knights under King Baldwin and 80 Templars defeated Saladin and his force of 26,000 soldiers. Saladin quickly got his revenge 1187 came the disastrous Battle of the Horns of Hattin, the Templars were out smarted by Saladin got caught out in the desert sun and after suffering severe damage from the blistering desert sun were crushed by Saladin's forces. After retreating to Acre and a drawn out two year siege the Crusaders and the Templars had to surrender to Saladin and Jerusalem. This was the end of the Templar's military dominance and after the bullshit with the King of France and the Order being labeled heretics a chapter in history was closed and a time of myth, legends and obsession began. Yes, there is an unhealthy obsession with the Templar's and their massacre of non-christians can not be denied. But from a purely military point of view they were an early example of a specialized, deadly unit....Also, your right the early Christian Church grab everything they could from the "Holy Lands" claiming they were "Holy Relics"

Great. I mean fucking GENIUS... Now we just need to get around to proving immaculate births, burning things that talk, animals that talk, magical trees/healing abilities/powers of transformation/communication/abilities to walk ANYWHERE, and zombies. Good start though. Don't forget to eat your flesh in the meantime. Gotta stay holy.
