Junk mail and the destruction of Canada's Boreal Forest

Canada’s forests are being devastated to make catalogues and junk mail

In Canada, it’s estimated that each home receives between 550 and 800 pieces of junk mail every single year, which means that more than 16 billion flyers are distributed to Canadian homes annually.

In the United States, each home receives on average 800 pieces of junk mail.

Junk mail does more than waste our time and invade our privacy: it contributes to global warming and causes the destruction of Endangered Forests like Canada’s Boreal Forest, including the habitat of endangered species like woodland caribou.

    • If you cut down trees to make paper---new trees will grow.

If you bulldozer trees down to strip mine tar sands to make petroleum, the petroleum gets burned up, and there will not be any new trees because you have destroyed the soil that trees need to grow.

So, if we just strip mine everything---we won't have to worry about catalogs and junk mail.

      Combat junk mail----burn more petroleum.

    • If we got rid of junk mail in the US the USPS would'nt have much to do. Maybe 2-3 days out of the week I get nothing but the pennysaver and some other useless shit through the mail. We can all start by just recycling that stuff, then signing this petition etc. etc.

    • It seems like it would costs more to make paper based flyers than to send an email. It seems like the more trees that are cut down the more it impacts the environment in a negative way.

Electronic mail (Spam) irritates me to no end, but I would rather receive that then have trees destroyed.

    • I place on-line orders, and always make sure the box is checked, or not, to not recieve emails. So what do they do?....Send me a catalog instead.
I can't seem to get them to stop.
      Any suggestions for that problem?
