Russia's "day of wrath"

Cries of “Freedom!” and “Putin resign!” filled Kaliningrad’s dilapidated main square, as up to 5,000 people gathered to take part in a nationwide “Day of Wrath.” From Vladivostok in the far east to this, Russia’s westernmost region, dozens of protests were held today in the largest show of discontent since Putin came to power more than a decade ago.
What began as distinct protests against specific economic policies — a rise in utilities prices, an increased tax on imported cars, environmental concerns — have now been united by a growing concensus on who is to blame, said Vladimir Milov, a former energy minister under Putin and current co-leader of Solidarity, an umbrella opposition movement.
“People are clearly moving from specific economic and social demands to general political demands, from the resignation of local governors to the resignation of Putin’s government,” he said, sitting in a Kaliningrad cafe after flying in from Moscow to observe the day’s events.
“There’s a recognition that political factors, and the government, are to blame,” he said.
As yet, it’s unclear how true that is. Putin’s popularity rating remains high and many of today's protests garnered just 150 to 500 participants. In Irkutsk, where locals voted in a Communist mayor in local elections last week, dealing a heavy blow to the ruling United Russia party, just 500 people turned out (versus the 2,000 who attended a pre-election protest earlier this month).
In Kaliningrad, the population is certainly calling for political change. Today, protesters wore pins disparaging United Russia and called for the ouster of the Moscow-appointed governor, Georgy Boos. The smell of tangerines filled the air as they held aloft the fruit that has become the symbol of the unpopular leader. “It’s because he used to be fat,” said one protester (failing to mention that his face carries the distinct orange glow of a badly done fake tan).

Ha ha ha few thousand people organized in 4 cities, by Western NGO's pro Western organizers and some people with complains from taxes on import of foreign cars to corruption in police usual complaints linked to problems with world crises that affected Russia like everybody else!
IF YOU FORGOT THAT IS CALLED DEMOCRACY !
But you and other Western papers write catastrophic titles like -
"HUGE anti-government protests in Russia" ! ha ha ha ha or "Putin - resign!" ! or "Day of WRATH!" ha ha ha !
West is really desperate to use this cheap anti - Russian anti- Putin western propaganda.
Russian GDP growth is back! Already 4% and predicted to go up to 6% next year!
And USA? 0,01 % perhaps? Ha ha ha ha ha ha !DESPERATE !:-)I'm SURE that UrbanGipsy have never saw Russia in his life let alone that he knows what is happening in Russia!

I hope there will finally be some real change for Russia and its people. In the past hundred years, they have yet to blossom into their true potential.

Putin told the people that if they could endure some hard times he promised them that life would get easier. It has been 5 years and nothing has changed, and people are becoming disgruntled. The people feel that they are worse off now than they were before they started giving things up to help Putin.
Those people really suffer though, going without coal, electricity, and rationed food.
We truly are blessed in America.

Great article from Radio Free Europe titled "The Myth of Putin's Popularity"

Russians are growing increasingly unhappy with Putin at the head of government. I hope the government does not stand in the way of democratic change because when you take people's ability to protest with the ballot or with their voices, there is always violence. - 1 year ago

Putin will do whatever it takes to keep the reins of power he will resort to violence against his own people. Vladamir Putin is bent on returning Russia to the power and glory days of the Soviet Union. He has destroyed most of what Gorbachav and Yeltsin accomplished. Oligarchy is rampent in Russia corruption the way of life. If Putin were to be a purist in his extreme view things might be different but he is no saviour to Russia. Oh yea The current President of Russia is a fraud and a stooge of Putins, Medvedev

tommic:
I have to agree with tommic. In the end this will amount to nothing, Putin will not give up control of Russia. The common people maybe be suffering but the elite are reaping the benefits and they will decided the political future of Russia.
