    • Tv is their new god. IF people would stop thinking that faux news is the gospel and turn the set off and read books, you would be amazed at the progress this country would achieve.

    • First off: This article is from a wacco website. It is filled with articles about the Illuminati, the New World Order, and fear of women.

Don't just take it with a pinch of salt, but with a whole 10 pound bag.

      Second:
If I have to choose between worshiping God or Ugly Betty, Betty winds hands down. As does Chuck, Lost, Fringe, Glee, Doctor Who, and dozens of others!

Heck, even reality show crap beats God any day.

    • Probably a minor distinction to make but it's not TV that is the new god, rather what's on TV, specifically the advertisements. It's odd if you think about it, advertisers promise you the same things religion used to. You can be blissful if you eat this yogurt, satisfied if you use such and such soap, secure if you buy the newest home alarm system, healthy if you take whatever damn drug their pushing, have a happy family if you feed them Hamburger Helper etc. All you have to do to receive their "blessing" is to shell out loads of money and bingo, instant happiness!

Part of this is our own fault because we demand instant gratification. But advertisers are clever and television is powerful medium. Any small crack or flaw in our societal psyche is wedged wide open by advertisers. A small insecurity is deliberately blown up into a large problem which can be solved by buying whatever shit their selling. Television "programming" is what they do to keep us tuned in until the next round of advertisements bombard us with their big message said in a thousand different ways: 'you are flawed and inadequate'.

I often think that Soviet brainwashing likely paled in comparison to US advertising. On average a person is exposed to 16,000 advertisements a day from all media. Everywhere you go, everywhere you look there are advertisements. Its so bad, that there is a company that places advertisements on urinal cakes! Is it any wonder we've lost our way?

    • I think it's a good step in man-kinds evolutionary direction.

But I think we're moving on to the internet, after 50 years of television.

    • More importantly, the television has taken children away from playing outside and reading. Parents use television as a babysitter. TV used in conjunction with videogames is a powerful tool. Example, child obesity and the dumbing down of our educational system.

    • Not surprising. Many people wouldn't have any realistic concept
of what God truely is if it jumped up and bit them in their asses.
So for those who think TV is God, it only proves that God is Dog
spelled backwards. Perhaps not anywhere near as backwards as
they are, but as Groucho Marx once said: it's early yet.
