I have no problem throwing my money into the pot for the good of the commons. I have a very big problem, however, being forced to throw my money into the profit pot of the insurance industry. Let's not muddy the waters here, corporatecrats. This bill hands it all away to the insurance industry. As I read in an inciteful comment at another site: the two main thrusts of the bill are the public mandate and no denial for pre-existing conditions. So let's see, it boils down to 1)We are being forced to become customers of a for profit industry and 2)they must allow us to patronize them.
By the way, according to the bill, an insurance company can STILL DENY someone for a pre-existing condition, but they must pay a fine if they do. Hmmm, let's see, I think I'd trade paying a few small fines in exchange for 30,000,000 new customers.

There will always be bribes in politics, there will always be those who find a way to take advantage of a positive change, but it is a positive change. Some will abuse their rights, but many more will cherish them as a means for safety and survival.

The usual suspects here with their usual negativity. Funny how it's the same people who said this reform was impossible and it wouldn't happen. Oh well...I'm guessing that the 32 million people who will be able to afford to see a doctor won't focus on whether someone called it "Obama's Bill" or not.
Well done to all the people who made calls and put pressure on their representatives to get this passed. Now let's move on to the next issue...there's so much else to do.

I don't think anyone would disagree that we need to help all of our fellow americans. But how exactlly is this bill going to help your dad right now? or for that matter a year from now? or two years from now? is he under 26 so he can be retained on his parents policy? if it was as simple as taking a little of my earnings and giving it to your father i would do it in a second, but my interpertation of the bill is that the only benifit your father would recieve is that he cannot be rejected (although i interpert there is a clause that insurance companies can reject a per-existing condition, but would be forced to pay a fine) he still has to pay for the insurance though. so if he has lost his job what good is the bill? The actual insurance that will be supplied by the governemnt is years down the road, but we need to start aying for it now.

I love how it always boils down to abortion. Two sides, each with a completely different arguement and neither sides listening.
I just want some damn health care. If my car can have minimum coverage, why can't I? I've tried applying for the basic coverage...denied. I'm only 20yrs old, have depression, PCOS, allergies and mild scoliosis. Never attempted suicide, never hospitalized for allergies, nor do I have a humpback. I take birth control and recieve allergie shots, nothing more and I couldn't even get the most basic plan. I just want to know if I'm in any form of an accident I can pay for the Sesame Street Band-aid they slap on me.

Ha, folks are so bitter. I would say based on the comments that I am seeing, folks need to read the bill before they comment, or at the very least not pretend to be 'objective' when the language of your commentary clearly favors one side of the political spectrum. Is the bill perfect? No, far from it. But any step in the direction that helps the less fortunate of our country is a step in the right direction. And considering this bill has been passed in B.Ob's first year, where many with full terms failed, I think the prospects for even better legislation to improve upon this are good. But, as with all things, we will see...

Even if you support universal health care, there is no possible way any American can be satisfied with this bill. This bill is not health care reform. This bill is about power and funneling money to corporate interests.
Oh well, just another program that will be bankrupt in 30 years.
Makes you wonder why so many bribes had to be included in the bill if it was so good.

Congrats to my fellow Democrats who called their Representatives, went door-to-door, talked to their neighbors/friends/family about the substantial benefits in this bill.
This NYTimes page explicitly describes what the bill will do and when the reforms will be enacted.

The bill is not perfect, but it is good. Even if it is not single payer - universal, it is a move towards social justice. Any movement in that direction is a victory.

I am very happy that this bill is going to pass. I will not believe it until it is released though. No gloating, just positive change for us as a society.
Just as republicans were happy when the two wars were started. I am happy as a democrat that we are doing something that will help people and reduce the debt over time.

Obama's bill? You mean he wrote it all himself? See, this isn't really about helping people, this is about politics and being able to say neener neener, Obama won. This is one reason why politics sucks. And let's just see should this pass how much Insurance CEOS up their salaries as well. We bailed out the banks, and now we are bailing out the insurance companies under the guise that the 45 million Americans without CARE will all of a sudden be able to walk into a doctor's office tomorrow and be taken care of. Again, gullibility and political allegiance over logic and reason wil be the death of us. I want all to have the ability to have access to healthcare, but this isn't healthcare, it's insurance care.

You really will be happy after a few years. A short book called, "This Perfect Day" in which people are drugged to all be happy to have a more controlled population.
So don't worry, in a few months none of this will matter. Soon you will be staring at flowers with a perpetual smile on your face. Your collar will tell you when to go eat and when to go to sleep. hahaha.
It truly isn't as bad as you think. Society went on after LBJ passed medicare.
Bush did horrible things in my opinion, and some thought it was the greatest thing our nation has seen. Well, about 23% of the nation, since he was the 3rd most unpopular president in our history. But really, what is history.

That is a compliment that I sound like a democratic talking point. Not everyone agrees 100% with all democratic or republican ideas. It is just the democratic vision I believe in, and TRULY believe that Obama is doing the right thing. I seriously doubt that republicans felt that what Bush was doing was good for us. And in the end Americans gave Bush one of the lowest ratings as a president in the history of our nation.
Arrogant stance, reminded me of Thurston Howel off of Gilligan's Island. Because I have some ideas and opinions that doesn't mean they are necessarily arrogant. Just my own ideas.
I agree, we can't make everyone happy with this bill. But it benefits the majority, and that is what I am for. It doesn't affect me at all. But if it helps the poor and needy, and not the smug and greedy, I am all for it.
Also reduces the deficit over the first ten years, and then the following 10 years it reduces the deficit even further.

Obviously someone doesn't understand the reality of how sleazy insurance companies are and what they will do and are already doing to circumvent this bill and use it to their advantage. I am already covered and still can't afford to go to a doctor. The insurance company just raised our rates 52% to pay for all of those who will enter this system so they can still get a profit. Republicans who call this a socialist bill are missing the mark by a wide mile, as was already stated by Deninis Kucinich who opposed this bill and stated he only voted for it at the last minute in the hopes it would eventually lead to a discussion of universal care. But of course, like the climate crisis however, people have to make this about political sides. I honestly do hope states start putting forth their own bills to vote in single payer/universal in their states if this is all we get as I fear many will still be left out of the loop.
