Yeah yeah, heard it all before. If you just LET white women kill their babies, you're a murderer.
But if you go to another country (brown majority, of course) and kill, oh, I don't know, a family of 4 with the excuse of a war... Goddammit man, you're a friggin hero! March soldier, march!

I would care if I believed Bart Stupak hadn't been lying all along--he NEVER cared about tax dollars funding abortions--in fact his district in Michigan doesn't have ANY abortion providers anyway so its a moot point with his actual constituents--this was all about him pushing his religious beliefs off on the rest of us because he is a member of The Family--the church (that doesn't pay taxes) but still subsided his rent so he only pays $600 to live in a $1.8 million mansion in Georgetown --where his fellow senator John Ensign was allowed to have an affair with his campaign managers wife in one room and receive marriage counseling in another room with the soon to be ex-governor of South Carolina.
But yeah besides being a complete hypocrite and stomping all over the First Amendment guarantee to separation of church and state in exchange for a rental subsidy -- he's now also an idiot for not realizing he was being played all along by both the Republicans and the Democrats.

Guess what "genius"--we have a shortage of cute white blond haired babies here in America because the mothers of those babies have access to abortions and/or birth control and/or a lawyer to set up a private adoption. And nobody wants to adopt a mixed race or "dark skinned" child born here in the US--its much "cooler" to save children from half way across the world than it is from across the street. That and I don't see any so-called pro-life Republicans signing up to adopt a child growing up in the foster care system. Nor do I see any of them advocating for family court to be reformed because right now it is so ass backward they won't release children for adoption until the parents have exhausted every possible legal appeal (or the "parents" manage to kill the child and blame it on the child protective worker who was also responsible for 80+ other children on their caseload who didn't adequately supervise this particular child). And I also don't see any pro-life Republicans voting for an increase in welfare or education funding or for paid sick leave or child care credits or for any other program that might help this woman who is now stuck raising a child they demanded she have--because OMG that might mean their tax money is being used to support the life they demanded be saved. And of course the Republicans don't want to appear to be hypocrites or admit they love to re-write history and only vote their values or follow their own ethics when up for re-election.

What does this have to do with being Liberal or not? Aren't Republicans big on personal responsibility? If you can't provide a responsible life for the child, don't have one! If Republicans don't want the government to provide health care, why should they insist on people having babies they don't want??

Guess who just earned a flagging for using a aborted fetus to make a political statement?
Make your point without using a picture of a fetus, or don't make it at all. Your sensationalist approach is not welcome here, since you care nothing of the supposed life and only of the laws that prevent you from criminalizing abortions.
If you had any tact, sir, you wouldn't have to stoop to shock value to prove a point.

Abortion is the last option because your other methods didn't work, weren't available or weren't used. It has its own health risks for the mother, especially where it is done illegally without government protections. It's not a choice made lightly. It very well could result in sterilization as a side effect, actually.
Would you get sterilized forever because you don't want THIS baby right now?

What scares me about the abortion argument is that there are right wing chrsitians that feel that regardless of what is occurring the mother shouldn't have the right to make a choice.
Rape, incest, and the mother possibly dying are all God's will, and that child could be a president or nobel prize winner. At what point does the debate allow the mother to make a decision...and not the state.
Ironic that repubs state they don't want state involvement of any sort...well, when it suits their needs they want to intrude upon citizens rights.
Rape and incest are horrible crimes and the state should never force anyone to have to force the mother to carry the child. Abortions done in back alleys are disgusting and harmful to women.
The mother possibly dying if she undergoes the birth shouldn't be an option. Or at least she should be able to choose. Of course, hospitals do allow this option because it is unethical to allow the mother to die when she could live to have children in the future.
It is all gray, but to some it is not. They are crazy enough to kill others over it too. Ironically enough, this is contrary to Jesus's teachings to kill another.

Ummm I am not sure if it is your intent--but this sentence seems to argue that rape and incest are somehow God's will and/or that a mother dying from being raped or bearing a child born from incestuous relationship and then dying is somehow God's will as well.-- and I don't know any Republicans or Democrats or even atheists who would agree with that being the case.

This is the crazy thing...I have had actual Christians argue these things with me in my initial job and then later in college for my undergraduate degree.
Maybe it was far right wing Christians, I understand that. Most people don't buy into these ideas. However, my point is to illuminate that there are people on both extremes.
So when people say they are against abortion, are they truly against all forms of abortion?
Just like when I was exposed to some VERY conservative types giving birth with the Bradley method. Seems innocent enough, until the husband had the wife sign over all rights so that she couldn't ask for pain medications during the birth. Regardless of what she stated. Also, the husband invited 20+ friends from the church into the room. I am just not used to people on the fringe, it is just different. Not my belief system.
I just don't want people jamming their religious beliefs down my throat.

Babies? News of babies being killed would alarm me and make me very angry. Nothing and no one is being killed. Babies are not being killed; fetuses are being aborted. And, that's fine with me, so long as there is a legitimate reason behind the abortion.

Way to miss the point! Stupak made some concessions and so did Obama in order to get his and other Pro-Life Dem's vote. Obama made an executive order to NOT allow federal funds to be used for abortion. The republicans last ditch effort was under the idea that an executive order can be reversed. It was an attempt to kill the bill on a technicality and to try to change the debate to pro-life vs. pro-choice not healthcare bill vs no healthcare bill. It was nothing more than mudslinging politics. It is laughable to think that the healthcare bill is out to kill babies. If you buy in to that talking point then you resemble a lemming.

The executive order was the smoke and mirrors. It doesnt do anything. Federal money can still be used for abortions under the current legislation. The only reason they even said it was so Stupak didnt look like a hypocrite.

I can see why Republicans are mad. They would prefer to roll back the clock and get rid of abortion as we know of it. They would rather get back to the old days when, if you had a unwanted pregnancy a swift kick down a staircase would suffice. That's the Christian way.

If you would be able to get pregnant, because you wanted to, and carry the child to birth you would know the minute you feel life that baby is a human life to you. (I read to, played music for and sang to my babies in utero. That helped calm them outside of the uterus when they needed to relax. In fact when the nurse brought my daughter into the room full of family members and ask who wanted to hold her first she recognized her big brother's voice and looked straight at him.)
On the other hand, I agree that there are situations in which abortion should be an option. - 2 years ago
