CHICAGO (AP) — "Authorities say they found 1,600 knives and other weapons at the home of a man arrested when he tried to enter a court building in downtown Chicago with four hunting knives.

Officials say the Chicago man had been identified as a possible threat to federal and Cook County judges, and investigators also found a list of court workers — some with bull's-eyes next to them."

    • this is so stupid. "he tried to enter a court building... with four hunting knives" so we got a warrant to invade and search his house. crazy or not this guy is a victim of a police state reactionary mentality.

    • Cook County sheriff's police and U.S. Marshals raided Long's house on the 4500 block of North Milwaukee over the weekend. They said Long, who was on a judicial watchlist, had a stash of weapons -- 1,600 knives, five guns, seven law enforcement badges, brass knuckles and names of officers with targets by their names.

Long, 48, was charged with 49 counts of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and is being held on $350,000 bond. Some of the knives recovered were sharp but made of plastic, allowing them to elude metal detectors.

Long has been arrested 18 times since 2000 on charges that include being caught in a secure judge's chamber, masturbating in public and violating an order barring him from Northwestern Business College in Skokie. The U.S. Marshals threat-assessment team banned him from the federal court's law library after he asked women to model for him, according to records.

I also guess he was 'law enforcement badges' dealer as well... He's a convicted felon which makes the 'knife dealer' point pretty much moot.

So he is mentally unstable after all.
I had not seen the article, but had figured he was a bit off.

He is obviously dangerous and was under watch for a reason.

I just don't see anyone, sane or otherwise, having that many knives without the intent to distribute.

Then again it may all be part of his delusions to collect them all.

      Crazy story though...

    • looks like a knife dealer to me. Typical of what you find at a flea market or swap meet.

You never carry a knife into a federal building, that was his mistake.

However, using that to gain entry into his home and then make his stock of knifes for sale into a cache of terror weapons is STUPID.

LOOK AT THE PIC, he has multiples of the same knives.

That is a dealer not a terrorist stockpile.

He messed up, but a terrorist, I dont think so.

Maybe a bit unstable but not a terrorist.

As for the bulls eyes on pictures.

Its crazy but not a crime to do, he did not take action to harm anyone.

Call the cops and tell them someone is out to kill you and see what they say.

Until they try it or make reasonable threat there is no crime.

A knife and a bulls eye on a pic is crazy, but not illegal.

Precisely what I thought. Who has 20-30 of the same knife in original boxes. Either they guys has some really interesting mental disorder or he sell knives. Still... trying to enter a court house with 4 hunting knives on you? Not to bright.

good point, considering the US has the most advanced weapons on (and over) earth... they can hit your front door with a missile from orbit for crying out loud! we don't stand a chance.

    • seems like an unnecessary amount of knives...a little primitive. why didn't the guy just get one gun and many bullets? much more productive and efficient i would think.

(not condoning killing, just amazed at how stupid ppl can be)

    • Could he have been a knife salesman? Possibly with a list of people to sell his knives too?

I wonder what his defense lawyer will come up with on this one? I hope it revolves around him seeking some form of assistance with a mental health worker.
