Is Current stale?

What up Current? Why are all the top stories old and stale? Is there anybody sailing this ship?

While I hate to offer the Current community yet another opportunity to engage in collective navel gazing, something seems to be off.

Where is the fresh stuff?

    • I have faith that Current_ will snap out of this. In part it is up to us. I know that for many of us it is hard to create a pod. The main problem being the cost of equipment, especially when for some of us the job market is iffy. I do believe that if we work with other Current_ members in our locality we can create pods with heart and soul. By using this method members can pool their equipment and resources to make the best of what is available. This, of course, is only part of the problem. We must also spread use of groups accordingly, this will allow us to control the flow of contribution. If you join groups that are well ran by a member and are of interest to you, you will find the content more enjoyable.

      I have thought of this. When I return to Cuba this April, I will hopefully try to get a pod made about my trip and my thoughts. Maybe I can even find Yoani Sanchez, the famous blogger and get her to do a little interview.

      Here in Miami, there are many interesting people. I know a man who was a veteran of the Bay of Pigs... I bet he'll be able to tell some stories.

    • real, important news/stories that actually affects the real world are being buried and ignored. that's also partly due to the users activity but more to do with what's magic'd up to featured spots with little/no comments/views.

    • Has to do with current's transformation into MTV 4... Look at what gets picked for TV... no more news or comments... now it's only videos about movies and BS reviews about movies...

      Yes, and let's face it, those who actually write original commentary instead of just always cutting and pasting either political back and forth, religion, or sensationalistic odd news aren't even noticed here much of the time.

      just haven't seen many (any) new docs lately...i've seen them all before. as much as i love "still up", i think max or jason should hold up a recent newspaper every once in a while showing the month, or even year clearly.

      they have to follow currents guidelines as well, that's why I don't post articles about current being stale or what's wrong with current.

      It's great that we have a voice and saying in some things, but the most important things are left for the big wigs.

    • I miss the days when Current (the channel) played mostly viewer created pods. I now find myslef barely watching current anymore. I feel like it is always a rerun of some Vanguard or Embedded piece.
      I really miss Current circa 2004.

      thank you for bringing that up! i also have stopped watching current for the same reason. they're pushing their own materials now and the random male British knitting pods or dropkick murphy's spotlights are a thing of the past. ever since vicky was sacrificed to corporate greed i've barely even looked at the channel. it's hard to take it seriously anymore.

    • AH. I do seem to have gone from "7" picked for TV,.....to "2", (Never seen ANY of them,....so no big deal,....but I swear it happened even as I was doing a "refresh screen",.....so I actually noticed. THAT is weird.

    • Will you guys make a marijuana reform forum, so there aren't 3-6 "stories" (rhetoric) on the front page of news every single day?

      also, have a big neg (algorithm/point wise/mod common sense) to stories that link to blogs or youtube clips? 90%of the time they are awful/advertisements. not news, when its an opinion piece that isn't backed up.

    • It's stale because some staffers make bad decisions about what should go in Current Stories. Seriously, sometimes you guys pick things to be featured that seem more like inside jokes than anything interesting. There was a YouTube video of Dolph Lundgren dancing that stayed up at the top for days- only 2 comments and very little views...
      It seems to be getting better lately though. Maybe somebody got fired?

      All the good stuff is on the side under Most Popular- things that are actually voted up by the community. Those are usually the posts with the most views and comments.

    • i've noticed this as well. random top and featured stories, articles staying up for days/weeks, hopefully their updates are able to fix some of the magic that happens around here

      stop being scared of what the govt is going to think .......there are no kinks..only mindless finks who refuse to go against the grain of what the people of current really want to talk about...shit or get off the pot...there are many more brillant minds out the not afraid to pull scabs...thus opening old verbal wounds long allowed to fester over giving the impression of being healed but in reality that is not so

      Ah,....ok,...that makes sense----I had a "7 picked for TV" for quite some time, but just today,...( I think at about 3:00),... that became a "2 picked for TV",...( not that I have ever actually managed to see anything I have picked),....I think they were on in England judging by the times the shows were apparently on,...I tried here in Texas,....no go)

      Change isn't always bad in fact we need to get used to changes but something, somewhere caused it to lose some of it's zip and maybe the zap. Maybe it was a combination of one 'something' implemented with each change.

    • It does seem rather moribund...maybe the community is just bored by interminable debates of no consequence...or maybe the springtide has awakened that most pernicious need for sun and surf...either way I don't like it.
