"I'm not turning anybody away — that would be unethical," Dr. Jack Cassell, 56, a Mount Dora urologist and a registered Republican opposed to the health plan, told the Orlando Sentinel on Thursday. "But if they read the sign and turn the other way, so be it."

My urologist posted a similar sign that say's " If you voted for McCain/Palin come on in and I will be more than happy to handle your penis with special "patriot" care. For every new patient coming in dressed as Johnny Tremain and tea bags hanging down around their noses, you will receive a complementary "happy ending". Ladies need not apply." Found this very strange, and by the way, my urologist is a master at hand jobs. He does it cause he loves his country.

Oh, yeah ? Well, I live near Mt. DORA & SEEMS that he like many docs. think that "DOC" is synon'mous with "GOD" so political discourse has no place in the treatment and healing of patients DOCTOR C. I along with many, many other groups have contacted the AMA and plan a rally in/ about your little area. YOU DIDN'T TAK THE HIPPOCRATIC OATH, DOC. TO TELL PEOPLE WHAT TO BELIEVE IN POLITICALLY . . .You could find yourself patient-LESS. . . .When offices in Tallahassee Monday, 9AM we'll see what officials at the State level have to say about your little 'acting out' AND USING YOUR LICENSE AS A THREAT / LEVERAGE AGAINST THOSE WHO DO NOT SHARE YOU POLITICAL VIEWS. . . . ! Grow up, Doctor or YOU MIGHT CONDISER GOING E L S E W H E R E. i WORKED IN MT. DORA AND YOU'VE A REPUTATION FOR BEING GREEDY, SMALL MINDED, AND PETTY. JUST A LITTLE INFO. FOR YA. my comment about this doctor is also a comment that the sentinel wrote about talking about the firestorm that has erupt because of this so called doctor. he shouldn't be a doctor if he cant keep his personal view or the views of others out of his line of work thus could cause some effects in his profession or could end up doing something worst and yes there are worse case scenarios that could happen if you want me to run them down i will.

btw...that cost of living that didn't go up in 2009 was in reference to my social security...which is now a joke...a paradox. by simply NOT paying everyone on ssi their cost of living raise...thats 100's of millions of dollars they "saved".
unfortunately...like the stimulus, the union bail outs, taking over banks and all of their INGENIOUS ways of "helping" us out of trouble...some of their schemes might actually DO us some good...
but...they KEEP THE MONEY they save ...so lucrciea and crack-ella can buy a 1000 dollar labradoodle. send teddy on another drunken junket to ireland with several passenger jets full of cronies. lets buzz down to argentina to see this prostitue I know...WHAT. There's no prostitutes in washington????
we dont see 8 cents on the dollar anymore. The rape of America is in full swing. We are going down and it is frustrating to see you dumbed down robots falling for whatever they put on the TUBE...instead of crying "STOP THIEF STOP" your too busy fighting over the "MIRAGE" Dem. vs Rep.
Thats all these clowns have to do. pick out a rep. or cons. news agency (theres only one) to demonize. or attack the clintons etc. etc. Cant you people think for yourselves? because obama says America is dark and evil...you believe that? just because he says it. because michelle has been ASHAMED of AMERICA all her adult life...are you ashamed too. Just because she tells you to be. I guess in her dark twisted world those 300 fireman running UP the stairs on 911 was something her people are ashamed of.
do scream from your pulpit ( looking and sounding for all the world like adolph hitler)"NOT GOD BLESS AMERICA...GOD DAMN AMERICA"...
Are you ashamed of being an American? If you are white... or jewish or Indian...should you be ashamed of your race? because they are ashamed of us? Do you believe that America is such a horrible place that we should allow this dark angry muslim to destroy whatever is left?Yes. I have primarily focused on the socialist/marxist democrats...because they are acclerating the destruction process to the extreme...but...make no mistake...the republicans when they DO have power do exactly the same. or they just do nothing. They are ALL corrupt. NO ONE cares about you or your children. NO ONE. They all just want the money. so, open up your wallet. walk quietly into the gas chamber like a jew in nazi germany.
The jews have learned. Thier NEW motto....NEVER AGAIN. I'm afraid that by the time we reach that point...they will have taken it all and we will be rummaging for food like mother africa

Dude, does your post even remotely pertain to this thread? WOW.....
PS the time for cries of "stop, thief, stop!" were about 6 years ago, and guess what? They went unheeded, as everyone was too busy getting rich off their fake real estate wealth to notice and/or care. So the thieves are long gone and got off scot-free after raiding the Treasury (whatever happened to Mozilo?).
So now that it's too late, are you trying to close the barn doors after the horses are long down the road? Only now, AFTER the biggest raiding of the gov't coffers, you're just NOW trying to save us?

Being an adult, I have the ability to choose on my own when to be ashamed of the country and when not to. Nothing is black and white srg. There are things to be proud of (the responders on 9/11) and things to ashamed of (the Iraq War or the response to Katrina) and lots of things in between. I do find it funny that you include this long list of things you're clearly upset by (and I assume ashamed of) and then blast Michelle Obama for her shame. I guess you're the only one who's allowed to express your feelings, huh?
As for your situation with your health care...I feel sorry for you. The system has abandoned you. And IF Obama had passed a Nationalized Health Care program similar to the VA, then you might have a legitimate fear about how things are going to go (thought I'd disagree), but that's NOT what he passed at all. Maybe you should throttle back on the rage and do some reading on the actual law. You might be surprised by what you find.
Good luck.

THERES the key navi...
"GIVE YOUR MONEY"...and thats all ANY of this is. No matter WHO you GIVE it to...you will get nothing back. the stimulus-state run auto-banks-hospitals...the creeps at the top are in a feeding frenzy like sharks on a wounded whale...they KNOW it's over...they are buying property over seas and socking away cash for the crash. EVERYDAY there is a new slick gimmick-trick-sham.Get this. I just recieved notice from these people you want to GIVE your money to, that the ...
...COST OF LIVING DID NOT GO UP IN 2009!!!!!
so I wont be seeing a cost of living raise this year. right. guess how much money that put in thier pockets. Now, did they vote THEMSELVES raises??? Are you figuring this out yet navi
Heres my thought. How bout you EARN my money?
I am already in a
GOVT. RUN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM ...
the v.a. it is horrendus. 200 mi. round trip to nearest facility. I have an option of the indian health clinic...same deal. They are letting my mom die a slow death...end of life and all that.. I have severe back problems for 1 1/2 yrs. They give me a topical ointment, cheap muscle relaxers...you have to take a handful ( a dangerous amount) to get any effect. after all this time, I still have NO diagnosis of what the problem is. Bottom line. A simple back problem is a MAJOR SETBACK live changin trauma. THAT ...is what you take for granted. SO...you LONG for the day when a simple infection can kill our children???? That is exactly what you are supporting. After informing Dr.s I waited 6 MONTHS for x-ray appt. Nothing to report. Then I hear YOU saying how eager you are to GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY... so you can wait in line for what amounts to 3rd world medical "care". If your healthy this sounds like a cool way to support your screwed up gang of liberal politicians...but when your sick and REALLY hurting THEN...THEN and ONLY then...you will know what you have done. I have no choice. soon you wont either.
THEY will appreciate your lock-step blind obedience and your money... lying on that beach in pau lai. Do you think for one stinking minute that obombus little millionaire welfare queens will ever see ONE DAY of nationalized health care? right.
If they can keep you focused on liberal this democrat that conser. this rep. that. ...keep you fighting amongst yourselves while behind your back they are bent over at the SAFE loading up whats left of this nation. Like any cheap dictator before they leave the country...they empty out the vault...better get out that check book...we got mid-term elections to pay for. wise up chumps

Need you be reminded of the Muslim Army psychiatrist who shot up the troops he vowed to serve, or the biologist professor who killed her colleagues after failure to make tenure? Fact is, some of the most educated members of society are prone to developing superiority complexes, based on years of those who've told them how smart they are, etc.
If this guy WAS influenced by the AM radio infotainers, then he's a fool: he seems not to understand that he's a TARGET for the average Joes as part of the health care PROBLEM, as an over-paid elite doctor. So he's siding with the WRONG side, and is too stoopid (sic) to realize it. He's going to have to start carrying a Tea Party protest banner in front of his own practice, if he buys the spiel....

Just think of what you'd say if a democrat doctor hung a sign saying, "no Republicans: your guys didn't support the bill, so you don't get to enjoy the benefits here. Hit the road!" Shoe's on the other foot; how does it feel?
This guy admitted his office accepts Medicare payment (which clearly is funded by the Fed Gov't), and THEIR terms of provider participation require doctors not to discriminate in this manner.
He's licensed by the STATE to enjoy the privilege (not his RIGHT) to practice urology, and no doubt he was trained in gov't-funded medical schools and residency programs (usually at VA hospitals) at some gov't expense to earn his specialty credentials to go into private practice.
In other words, it's incredibly disingenuous of him to try and claim he wasn't trained using socialist (gasp!) principles via taxpayer investments, and to deny that the ENTIRE PREMISE of providing medical care in a humane manner is based on HYPER-SOCIALIST principles.
One of the core principles of medicine is to provide for the needs of patients, REGARDLESS of their ability to pay. YES, that's a core tenet of the Hippocratic Oath, and is why we don't kick people out of ERs without producing either their national ID card (as if to refuse illegals) or their proof of medical insurance. It's a BIG-TIME violation of a doctor's core principles to do so, and onerous to any doctor who understands what's incorporated into the Oath.
People, even some doctors, are taking their partisan politics WAAYY too far: people are forgetting we're all Americans, first and foremost. Any attempts to discourage voting is incredibly offensive, and downright insulting to the legions of soldiers who DIED on foreign battlefields to PROTECT this most sacred of American basic rights.

Smart doc, he knows how to get attention, that was his only purpose. What we should really be focusing on is the fact that the IRS (!!!!!!!!) will be monitoring this healthcare thing. Yeah, the "nobodies read it" accusation arguably applied to the bank bail-out legislation, where Paulson demanded IMMEDIATE action from Congress, where REPUBLICANS and Bush started the "shoving legislation down our throats!" stuff where no one read it first.
Nowadays? Let's see: 2,500 pages, divided by 365 days (as it took a year to pass). That works out to 6 pages a day of that large-print legislation, hardly a major challenge for even a 5 y.o. child.
I dare say you're simply parroting the non-sense spewed by the likes of Rushbo/Hannity/Beck, etc. And just because THEY have a hard time reading without moving their lips (none of them finished even a full year at the local community college, BTW), it doesn't mean we're ALL such idiots.
Oh, the IRS thingie about them collecting payments, and looking into Medicare fraud? Perhaps you'd prefer starting a NEW, REDUNDANT Federal agency to do this, ust to have BIGGER more inefficient redundant government? That's real efficient, huh?....
Sorry, but the insurers have so screwed up their role (as the big banks screwed up, not only their businesses, but threatened the entire World economy) with corruption and outright bald-faced thievery, that there's little point to let them further screw it up.

Notice that he is a specialist. While the country is in desperate need of General Practitioners this kindly physician chooses to specialize, thats where the money is. Is anyone getting it yet? Medicine is no longer about healing the sick. Most doctors are drawn to the profession for the money. OK, I'll tell you why.
You think you'll be seeing BO and his kids down at the local DC free clinic? You actually THINK BO et al ARE socialists (and hint: despite what Hannity/Beck may shout, he is NOT)? You think you'll see them slumming down, hanging in the line of the local free clinic to get their "Obamacare"? Do you really think that accomplishment and hard work DON'T deserve special services that are unavailable to Billy Bob in Bumfuckity, AL?
Man, you really ARE naive, lapping up the Faux News crap, if you DO think that!
For one, why SHOULD they NOT have access to different care? You don't think National security concerns, much less their hard work and sacrifice, entitle them to receive executive-level medical care? If you DON'T, then look in the mirror, and ask yourself who's promoting the socialism here: you or them! If the fact that BO and Pelosi are multi-millionaires doesn't convince you they're not socialists, then this fact alone SHOULD.
Did you know POTUS and high-level leaders of Senate and Congress actually get executive medical care from a doctor (with a staff of 16) who maintains an office in the White House? Did you know the same doctor (usually a military doc) has a team of specialists at his beck and call, and has the resources of military hospitals near-by for testing, if needed?

Well, people sometimes forget that so-called "free-market" capitalism (said with tongue planted in cheek, since Bush interfered with the concept in the name of saving it!) allows not just freedom to SUCCEED, but freedom to FAIL! In fact, freedom to fail IS part of the process.
If this urologist thinks offending the MAJORITY of the population (Obama did win, right?) and violating his ethical codes (as well as State law) is a good business plan, then so be it. We'll see some free-market justice in action in the future, I suspect.

The doctor is walking a fine line. Ethically speaking, it is illegal for a doctor to turn away a patient based on gender, race, religion, or sexual orientation but as the article says, political views are not covered. In my opinion, turning away someone and posting a sign to "go elsewhere" because of their political views is the same as a sign that says "Coloreds go elsewhere." For this doctor to find a legal loophole to express his views while still discouraging patients to use his practice is just cowardly childish banter, not "free speech."

My guess is that supply and demand will kick in with the new healthcare bill. The money hungry doctors will all vie for the wealthy, who will pay out of pocket. Can only hope that Dr. Cassell won't be able to compete. At least we all know what Dr. not to go to!

Doctors shouldn't be biased toward their patients based on their political views. Regardless of whether or not he would truly deny a patient care, he certainly insinuated that he would.
It's kind of like if someone hung a sign on a store that said "Whites Only"... maybe they wouldn't really do anything, but the threat is still there.
A doctor's job is to take care of their patient, not make them feel unwanted because of their political views, or ANY views for that matter. Politics have absolutely no business when it comes to Doctor/Patient interaction. If the Dr. wants to be a dick on his own time, so be it.

not his own time. while he is a doctor, he must act like a sensible person. just like teachers can't go into class and start making out with their boyfriends or girlfriends instead of teaching. form 9 - 5, the laws and rules must truely say that he must not be the thing he treats. there is a difference between physiological and psychological distinctions between people, but they are still distinctions, so its a great example. if you dont like "go away if you dont have my political view" then maybe you wouldn't like "go away if your a jew".

When I saw this came out of Mt Dora, I had to be a little more lenient on this dickhead because Mt Dora is Florida's "special" city, where people sit around all day wearing "I climbed Mt Dora" T-shirts, slapping each other on the back because they just understood irony. I was surprised to find out they even HAD doctors.

Do you honestly believe that someone who voted for Obama would read that sign and say, "Oh well, I doubt they are REALLY going to refuse me." Even if they went in for treatment, don't you think they might be worried they weren't getting adequate care??
Sure its his opinion, but it has absolutely no business in this setting. What he wants to do in his PRIVATE life is his business.... but this isn't his private life.
He completely ignored the hippocratic oath.

"I will not permit considerations of gender, race, religion, political affiliation, sexual orientation, nationality, or social standing to influence my duty of care."
Being a doctor is more than cutting people open. It requires a sympathetic ear, and a comforting demeanor. I'm sure if this guy handled an openly liberal patient, his manner would interfere with the healing process.
I'm all for freedom of speech, but the oath means something. If he wanted to express himself, he need only do so anonymously.
Your argument of unconstitutionality is irrelevant to the conversation, because he's already taken the oath, and thus agreed to its terms.

This is no more a violation of the Oath than doctors that prescribe drugs that patients ask for by name simply by what they were told from an advertisement. Not including the fact that those doctors aren't addressing the real issues of poor health, I.E. diet, lifestyle, etc.

And I suppose one could argue this is also in violation of, "Whatever houses I may visit, I will come for the benefit of the sick, remaining free of all intentional injustice" if you think that being unwilling to provide affordable health care is intentional injustice.

I'm going to repost what I wrote in response to JohnAdams when he made the reference to liberals thinking that the prank that ended up towing many Glenn Beck watcher's vehicles was funny, but this expression of political bias was not.
"The primary difference that made the towing prank funny was that it was not really harmful to the well being of anyone. Sure people got mad because of it, but no one suffered because of it. However, this has many potentially harmful consequences. If someone is in distress from a painful bladder issue that could become more serious if undiagnosed and/or treated sees this sign and in his/her pain stricken mind takes it literally (because seriously, as it is written it's obviously a joke to whomever reads it like a kick in the balls is obviously a joke to whomever receives the kick) then they might look for help elsewhere and waste potentially valuable time.
Shortly put, this kind of "joke" isn't funny because it could have very serious consequences beyond having to pay a fine that the receiver of the joke can easily afford."
Basically, if one person in pain and/or distress who is not thinking clearly sees that sign and instead of seeking medical aid turns around because they took that sign literally, then that doctors sign will be in violation of his Hippocratic Oath because sarcastic or not, he is communicating that he will not treat people of a certain political persuasion.

You are absolutely wrong. By your tortured logic, if I put a sign on my business that said "occhipij is not welcome here", then it would be your fault for not ignoring my sign. If you can't see how incredibly stupid that sounds, then you are blinded by your own agenda and simply shouldn't be taken seriously.

You assume that if someone is in enough distress that their judgement is impaired that they will head directly to the ER. If the person is a regular client of the doctor and has a good idea that the problem causing them such distress is a urinary tract problem, it's not unreasonable for the person to go to a place where they are more familiar first. In this case it would be the person's Urologist.
Just out of curiosity, what if he opened the office up for the day, but put the closed sign up. He wouldn't be denying anyone service so long as they walked through the door, but how many people do you think would see the closed sign and turn away just because it was telling them "CLOSED"?

Varex_Sythe:
Doctors are obviously allowed to close their offices, but it's negligent to NOT be within reach for after-hours care by not having, say, an answering service (doc avail by pager), or to have some other reasonable instructions for patients to contact him when the office is closed, or with clear instructions to direct the patient where adequate care is available (it's not enough to say, "Seek other care").
If the doc makes a referral to a colleague whom they KNOW to be incompetent, that's also a cause for a potential malpractice suit, known as 'negligent referral'.
Same concern: avoiding patient abandonment charges, which also is considered malpractice (and harm must result, or the cause is not worth pursuing).
This guy has really opened a can of worms here, by basically telling EVERY patient in his practice that's he's discharged ALL of them from his care, without knowing for sure which patients will perceive themselves as being discharged (how does the doctor knows WHO actually voted for Obama or not?). At the very LEAST, he'll have to send a letter to ALL patients in his records, explaining that he didn't mean it, that NONE were discharged, and he still expects to maintain a 'doctor/patient' relationship with them in the future (unless they contact him to request a transfer of care to another provider).
Point being, hanging a sign like this on the door's practice is ABSOLUTELY a malpractice lawyer's wet dream, as it basically declares 'open season' on the doctor for claims from ALL existing patients, who reasonably can claim 'patient abandonment'.
EVEN IF the claim is FRAUDULENT, and patients DO know better, the doc literally doesn't have a leg to stand on in his defense (except his middle leg).
PS don't be surprised if this urologist's medical malpractice carrier decides to drop him, as well; trust and believe, malpractice carriers do NOT appreciate egotistical doctors who increase their liability, based only on their over-blown egos and big mouths. Same goes for egotistical doctors who open themselves up to sexual harassment claims, too: just a hot mess that carriers don't want to deal with!
A doc without medical malpractice coverage, and unable to secure it, might as well just hang up their shingle (or look into self-insurance, by posting a large bond with the State Medical Board, something most docs don't want to do).

And the new law is socially responsible? Anyone advocating more rules and laws to affect individuals rights should understand more rules and regulations seldom affect the masses positively. Less rules more freedom and the rest will work itself out. Those who will exploit others the most always are immune to the new rules. Majority of the time they are the ones lobbying for the new rules which most effect the little guy. Keep your rules. Let the rest of us have our freedoms to choose what to do with our own lives. Those that don't like the choices of others that might serve the public should seek services elsewhere.

I can tell your a complete moron because reality doesn't matter to you. This doctor Said he wanted to deny medical treatment to anyone who wasn't as bat shit crazy as him. He definately broke the hipocratic oath, and continues to break it by having such an evil demonic set of mind. He didn't deny medical treatment to anyone? This simple gives free right for everyone to post signs like his... but im sure that's exactly what demonic people like him want. and they are welcome to do it, as long as they take responsibility for them. Here's a fine story:
a man walks down the street, on a door to his side there is a sign. the sign reads "jews, please go to another store." the man is angry because he is a jew, he walks into the store to have a talk with the biggoted owner. "hey, my aryan brother! wat would you like from my store?" the owner asks. The man responds, "I'm a Jew. why does your store claim "best prices for everyone" when it tells jews to use another store? im going to report you biggotry and your hipocracy to the German restoration police." "hahahaha," responds the owner, "you silly Jew, your not as smart as aryans... I know its against the new tyranious laws to deny you jews service! that's why im going to give you my best products and prices (not really though, clearly i hate jews so im going to give you crap)! its just a sign HAHAHA im not denying you fair service...but if it makes some of you bastards think twice before entering my store, all the better. HAHAHAHAAH. all the sign gives Is an earfull of my opinion, frowned upon as it may be, last time i checked that was not illegal. HAHAHAHAH Its not Illegal to harrase you into segregating yourselfs. HAHHAHAHAAH, im sure my ARYAN brothers will all agree with me and come to my defense... YOU have nothing on me you disgusting JEW!
