Mississippi school stages a fake prom to trick lesbian

Image
navider
Recently Mississippi's Itawamba Agricultural High School canceled prom because Constance McMillen, a lesbian who wanted to dress in a tux and attend it with her girlfriend. To make up for it's negative publicity the town threw two proms and invited Constance, two learning disabled students to the fake prom with 5 other attendees, while the real prom rocked on other side of town.

Article below:

Constance McMillen just wanted what teenage girls have dreamed about since time immemorial -- to go to the prom with the person she's dating. In McMillen's case, that person happens to be another girl. But the possibility of some same-sex jamming to "I Gotta Feeling" didn't sit too well with the folks at Mississippi's Itawamba Agricultural High School. Reasoning that no prom was better than a prom with lesbians, they abruptly canceled the whole affair last month. Cue media frenzy, ACLU lawsuit, Facebook uproar.

After an embarrassing glare of attention on Itawamba, it seemed a happy ending was in sight. Last Tuesday, the school agreed to host an off-campus prom and told Constance she could, per her stated intention, bring her date and wear a tux. On Friday night, McMillen and her girlfriend showed up at the Fulton Country Club ready to party. There, she says, she found just seven other revelers, including two learning disabled students.

Worse, she claims that her classmates were off doing the Macarena at an alternate event, arranged with the aid and consent of the parents and staff of her school. Speaking to the Advocate this week, McMillen said, "They had two proms and I was only invited to one of them ... everyone went to the other one I wasn't invited to."

    • hello this is sue4e3's son and as I was recently creeping through her emails I saw this specific one and was compelled to reply to it. first of all the school did not stage anything you assclowns. The school didnt disagree with the seperate prom they held their own prom just as they were supposed to. The other prom was not thrown by the school itself but the parents. So while it was a dick move on the schools part not to tell any of the kids that were not invited by the children who made the list of people who were to come to said party it was in no way illegal or even really an issue. It was not the school place to tell them as it was being thrown by a completely seperate entity and the list of people to come was made up by a bunch of highschool students and so of course the handi-capped children wouldnt be invited or the lesbian. In the truth the handi-capped kids got screwed more than the lesbian did. She knew that taking the school to court would cause issues, she knew what she was doing when she did it as almost anyone would. It is common sense that when you sue a damned school of course there's going to be problems. The unfortunate disabled children were simply caught in the middle because they were un-popular and put all over the news. Once again I shall re-state that while it was an asshole thing to do on the schools part it was not there place and it was not run by them so they really didn't have to do anything about it. The school held its own prom as it was supposed to and if the children wanted to go to something else the night of the prom then that is their own choice the school cannot force kids to go to the prom. I truely don't understand why everyone is getting so angry and stupid over such an idiotic thing. So some southern school got pissed because a lesbian (which in the south is still not very accepted) decided to sue them. So they let the kids hold their own little party. This isn't an issue. It was perfectly okay and it broke no rules. So please everyone Unbunch your panties and get over it.

This group of perverts {Perversion unorthodox or not normal} won't thank you for stating the truth like a bunch of spoiled children they want what they want without regard for anyone else or the consequences. I for one Thank you for the clarification. I lost faith in the media a long time ago believing only a small percentage of the truth is there the rest twisted to sell whatever they're selling or pushing what ever agenda. Like this homosexual agenda making more of a story then it was.

I really don't care what you are or who you like but the thing that bugs me I don't go running around yelling I'm straight at the top of my lungs to everyone drawing unnecessary attention to myself. Everyone needs to let it go and stop being so overly sensitive great you’re gay I'm not lets just get along. I wont overly flaunt my straightness if you don't overly flaunt your gayness

Yeah, there are two things about you claiming to be Sue4e3's son.

First, if you were her son, you could and should be able to easily make your own current account.

Second, if you are in fact using her account and "creeping through her emails" as you put it, then it sounds like you are trying to be covert about the whole thing. Announcing on her account that you are doing something is not covert, and if you were being covert for some reason or another then it is not a far stretch that your mommy might be pretty pissed off at you if and when she finds out.

Alright first off creeping is a word I use often to cover a wide variety of activities most of which are not covert at all. I meant I was reading her emails because I was bored. and I plan on making an acount I just couldnt help myself from making all you idiots look like jackasses as soon as i possibly could. Also my mom is pretty mad at me about it because she told me not to do that but I did anyway because I am 16 and Im bored. This site is nice because I get pissed at my mom and I can come on here and cuss all of you guys out. so its stress relieving. Thanks for preventing premature gray hair. Have a nice day.

    • I say what a poor little spoiled lesbian brat. Really I get that she wanted to go to the prom with the person she has been dating. But I think the school, staff, PTA, and all others involved in giving these student their prom, had been there with their rules and beliefs, long before she even started going to school there. Therefore, why should everyone have to (once again) change how they feel to accommodate an attention greedy lesbian or gay? Eg: why couldn't she just wear a dress and show up at the prom like a normal person, instead she had to try and say "HEY EVERYONE LOOK AT ME, IM A LESBIAN WEARING A TUX WITH MY GF AT THE PROM, OOOOH HOW CONTROVERSIAL, EVERYONE PAY ATTENTION TO ME!"
This is a prime example of how everyone thinks they should have all the rights and freedoms in the world, no matter how much of a problem it causes with other people and them enjoying all of there rights and freedoms.

lol ..it's such a problem that she wanted to wear a tux. What was she thinking? Making people go out of their way to S-E-E her wearing a tux. That is way too taxing. And think of all those rights she is violating by wanting to do so. Best Comment All Week. EPIC WIN

The problem is that someone's freedom is being compromised based on prejudice. This should be a country where this action is not deemed controversial and it should not be a big deal. If the civil rights movement did not occur, this would be acceptable to do to black people and people would justify it with the same kind of rationale that you just posted.

This country will never be truly great until people are free to be who they are born to be without institutional bias from what usually amounts to religious mania based on bible verses written by men that thought the world was flat.

Seriously, there is no justification for this behavior.

Food for thought, genius. Minors cannot give consent and cannot drink etc. but they do have all the rights that any other human being has...which is why killing a minor gets you in just as much trouble (if not more) as killing an adult and why minors still have constitutional rights that can be violated just like everyone else .....Please do not go to law school.

I am from the bible belt (Tennnessee) and most of the claim to be "christians" do not know what they are talking about... being gay is a sin but you must still love everyone no matter what!!! Everyone sins it was born in us but its up to us to make the right decisions and most of the time when ppl claim to be gay in high school its only a PHASE so all YOU ppl saying this is right what these students did......YOU ARE WRONG and just as EVIL as the devil! If you do not LEAD by EXAMPLE how do you think ppl will see the love in christ IN YOU! If I knew this girl or anyone who has been hurt I would love them and tell them no matter what Jesus will always be there and He will never forsake you!

    • Check with you local gay rights group. the last Saturday before labor day a gay/lesbian/transgender day of protest. In every major city a event will be planned where all to march in their work clothes, Lawyers carry your briefcases, police as police etc, no fancy dressing as Dorothy. Time to let the others know who you are and that to remind them you are a everywhere and a force to be reckoned with. Spread the word and start organizing.

    • A good example of the state of the education system in America today. It is not this way everywhere I know but there are many smaller problems that need to be addressed. This story pisses me off but I know it is not all schools doing this sort of thing. All schools however have problems that need this kind of attention. I advocate dropping out and shooting straight for college at about 9th grade.

These are fine Christians trying to keep teach innocent children that sex is with the opposite it can be you uncle, brother, cousin but has to be a boy/girl sex. Animals have to be girls. The students are a different story. shame on them. Phil Ochs wrote a song about the state of Mississippi and ended it
Mississippi go and find yourself another country to be part of.

Summer coming up and that means vacations. For those that are traveling make sure you don't have to go thru the state of Mississippi and if you have to, fill up with gas and snacks before you get over the border. You can make it thru without spending a penny there. the whole fucking state should be boycotted and anything that comes from there until they start acting like decent humans with compassion.

well "sister", I would ask you then that regardless of how you feel about homosexuals, how can you be down with the school fucking around on the learning disabled students, taking them out to this empty country club for what? To be props in the school's devious fakeout of a lone student? That might say more about the itawamba school board than the idea that their faith (which has absolutely no place in the school system in the first place) precludes them from accepting gay students. Disgusting, and really, really a bitch move for sure.

    • I'm going to put aside political correctness and speak plainly. Homosexuality is a genetic mistake. All life has one goal to reproduce to pass on its genetic makeup to the next generation. It is a slow trial and error process if a new mutation fails to reproduce that mutation dies evolution moves on to the next mutation. Homosexuality fails to achieve its one goal natural reproduction. Yes yes I know there are exceptions for those homosexuals who make a conscious decision to reproduce why would they want to pass on that genetic trait is beyond me. but the simple fact is homosexuality is a genetic mistake a failed mutation that represents extremely minuscule percentage of the population of this planet so allowing these genetic mistakes to dictate terms to our society is ludicrous. I will be the first to say they are human beings with every right to live without fear and pursue happiness. But open homosexuality and homosexual claims of preference does nothing more than confuse the youth of our society and break down the natural family dynamics. consider this we are a country of 300,000,000 plus divided into three groups on the subject pro con indifferent on a planet of six billion plus mostly con. Homosexuals represents .3% of the population that number can vary depending on which study and what groups are included. We live in a democracy where the rights of individuals are protected. But the majority governs our society. In many cases the rights of individuals are superseded by the rights of the majority. You may pursue happiness any way you choose. But there are limitations. If you wish to run around naked that's fine you go to a nudist colony where it is accepted. You don't go to the mall!!! Because your rights do not supersede someone else's rights. Though I am not religious i have a great deal of respect for religion it is the disciplining force in our society Directing acceptable social behavior so a society can function. Though the majority of religious practitioners are rational well balanced individuals the extremists and fanatics needless to say are not. We as a country are judged by religious fanatics as ungodly because of many reasons but open homosexuality is up there!!! I'm afraid we are all going to pay for it sooner than later. As a young man I prevented 2 gay bashing bullies from beating a homosexual men that was 26 to 27 years ago I don't think homosexuals should be afraid of men like that! but of people like me who are tired of all this perverse propaganda. who would walk right by such an attack today and see nothing say nothing and do nothing!!!

WTF? People have the right to live their life and be happy--as long as they are heterosexual and only have sex to reproduce and hate their children or their family members who somehow ended up with a "genetic mutation"?

BUT I love the irony--because if more and more people only have sex to reproduce then that will increase the chances of "genetic mutations" and thus soon ignorant people like yourself will be at the next generations mercy when it comes to picking your nursing home or funding your social security and helping with your medical expenses....Karma's a bitch like that. :P

You are right I have no facts just some theories I've read

whether you believe in creation or evolution that's a personal choice I for one believe in both. how is that possible? that's a another discussion.

      First evolution.
there is plenty of supporting evidence to claim it as fact if you follow evolutionary logic then homosexuality is a failed mutation fact.
If not there was an article I read in a medical journal and remember seeing that same article in the village voice in New York about 9 or 10 years ago.
They were preliminary findings{ not facts } that a chemical imbalances in the first trimester of pregnancy were linked to sexual disorders
there was no conclusive evidence to what may be the cause initial indications were synthetic estrogen in plastics and natural estrogens in soybean
and other substances in our environment damaging DNA and reducing sperm count in men.
All that I've stated is from my memory of the article if I have misquoted you will have my apology and I will stand corrected.

Second confusing the the youth of our society.
it's the responsibility of the both parents to raise their children to know the difference between right and wrong To encourage them to face their fears
and to achieve their goals so they can become well rounded human beings. But not all children are raised in a supportive family environment more and more
Children are raised in single parent families without a positive opposite sex representation add the fact that some are molested and abused
and their view of the opposite sex gets twisted it is difficult dealing with the opposite sex without some kind of guidance then add homosexual claims
Of preference it is far easier dealing with your own sex but because something is easier does not make it right. This is not a question of fact but my opinion.

Third religious fanatics views of our society.
I said there are many reasons what part of that is unclear. Let's take Islamic views of homosexuality it is a sin punishable by death which they practice.
However transgender persons are accepted because it is not contrary to the koran where homosexuality is therefore unacceptable any country with open homosexuality
Is a target add all the other reasons and it does not take a psychic to see the future on this subject sooner or later a fanatic Muslim Group just to clarify not all Muslims but religious fanatics are going to get hold of a weapon of mass destruction and they're going to kill god knows how many people. And then society is going to look for someone or group to blame guess who? All through history where homosexuality has become open
Society turned savagely on them last time Germany I do not know the exact number that were sent to concentration camps before that China
the deaths were in the hundreds of thousands. just reminding you of some ugly history.

      Fourth the human side.
Homosexuals represent extremely small percentage of the population which makes them a special interest group if anything so why should the majority
Be dictated terms two by a minority and to associate homosexuality with the struggle for racial equality is ludicrous.
Look a human being is a human being no matter what no one should have to live in fear or be denied freedom to express themselves but there are limitations
Because there are minority groups with extremist views that the majority do not agree with the balance falls on the needs of the many over the needs of the few.

"some are molested and abused and their view of the opposite sex gets twisted it is difficult dealing with the opposite sex without some kind of guidance then add homosexual claims "

you really had to stretch on that one. there are plenty of kids who are molested who turn out straight. being molested is independent of ones orientation.

"it is far easier dealing with your own sex"

wtf? you've obviously never dated a woman lol... every single relationship on this planet is unique and complicated

"then society is going to look for someone or group to blame guess who?"

well since europe, canada, and australia treat their queers better than we do; i'm guessing them. you realize that their gains are purely financial. they don't want to bomb us because they "hate our freedom". they want to because they make money off of conflict. just like the u.s. and do you see acceptance of homosexuality as something to be stopped because some fundamentalists don't like it? should we stop strip clubs as well, they don't like it? where does it end

"Homosexuals represent extremely small percentage of the population"

over ten percent doesn't seem that small. also you're not including trans people, people in closet, and their straight allies who feel they deserve all of the same rights. when you take that into account, homosexuals along with their allies are in the majority. to say that ignores simple facts, like the fact that prop 8 passed with half of california voting against it; not some extremely small percentage.

You're too funny. 10% let's start with the extreme 1 in every 300,000 births end up in a hermaphrodite birth. I have never read any article on this subject with definite numbers depending on the study and which group were being studied the percentage was in the .03 or something if you combine all the sexual disorders related to the sexual orientation you would be hard press to hit 3%. If you include mental disorders abnormal or deviant behavior disorders that is a whole different story. Nevertheless on a planet of six billion plus I'm not sure of that number I think it might be higher why should the majority be dictated terms to buy a minority?

Proposition 8. when you say past with half the population of California voting against it you mean the voting population which represents approximately only 40% which translates to it passing with only 21% and that's including your{trans people, people in closet, and their straight allies who feel they deserve all of the same rights.} So the other 79% represent con or indifferent something to think about.

The only thing I agree with you is that all relationships are complicated

Should we stop open homosexuality because fundamentalist don't like it

Here's a prediction within 36 months a fundamentalist fanatic group will take control of pakistan's nukes and their first target will be New York city second will be London England third will be Paris France fourth would be Rome Italy. though I do not have traditional religious views I pray to god that I am wrong because the death toll will be in the billions and I can guarantee you that anyone that is not considered {normal} by the majority will be lucky if they die quick because people like me will not lift a finger to prevent it.

wtf? where did you pull those numbers out of?

amongst the trans community it's pretty common knowledge that the average is 1 out of 1,000 for trans people http://www.isna.org/faq/frequency. and when it comes to gays and lesbians it's about 10% http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_sexual_orientation

"why should the majority be dictated terms to buy a minority?"

what is being dictated? going to a school dance isn't imposing your views on anyone.

      "Here's a prediction..."

stay on your meds, you're visions of the future are a tad bit loco.

"anyone that is not considered {normal} by the majority will be lucky if they die quick because people like me will not lift a finger to prevent it."

how brave and classy of you!

It would have been better to outright ban them from the prom rather than purposefully tricking them.

    • In 20 years with administrations like Obama's and mentalities like these, you people will be defending the next "Safe School Czar" even if it's the founder of NAMBLA..... There is a place and a venue for alternative behavior. The very fact that the rest of the students didn't let her in on the "secret" lets you know that they MIGHT have been offended by two under age girls sucking face, or whatever it was THEY, (the "lesbians") were offended over. Oh BTW why isn't the "girlfriend" mentioned in the story??? There is more to this story then what is being told in this article. So far based on this article's merits you people have made the following comments, Principal cooking the books to avoid bankruptcy,,, (what?), It's sick and twisted and... and many more words that escape me!, hey should be charged with a felony for child abuse and endangerment, the only saving grace is that all of those ignorant fucks live in shit hole mississippi and they leave the intelligent people in other states alone., a town full of such disgusting people,(All the people in the ENTIRE town?), These comments belong in the tree-hugger hall of fame...
Sorry folks but "Girlfriend" needs to keep her "lifestyle" where it belongs, out of the face of people that find it immoral and disgusting. They have rights against being offended if the girl does.

    • From an article published on Friday, 13 June 2008:
"Only since 1970 have black and white students attended the town's one public high school, Charleston High (Mississippi). Two years ago, a black schoolboy tried to get into the segregated all-white high-school prom to see his friend. He was told he had to leave and then escorted out the door... As long as anyone in Charleston can remember, high-school dances, including the annual rite of passage, the prom, have been segregated. Two entirely separate committees – one white, one black – made up mostly of parents, planned their own proms. One of the white parents reportedly told the (white) committee meeting: "I'm not going to have any of those niggers rubbing up against my daughter ..." It was only this April, 10 years after an upset Mr Freeman first offered to pay for an integrated dance, that the walls of separation came tumbling down and Charleston held the first integrated prom in its history... This was happening as racial tensions were boiling over in the Louisiana town of Jena when black students were told they could not sit in the shade of a tree where white children gathered during the school break. After an assault, the authorities cracked down on black pupils, who received shockingly long jail sentences and before long the Jena Six had become a national cause. Back in Charleston, the original school board, who rejected Mr Freeman's offer 10 years ago, had changed, as had the head of the school. The prospect of being filmed for a documentary, which had the blessing of a Hollywood star, also helped."
Crazy, and this didn't make news, unless I missed something, which is not impossible.

    • The mentally ill are discriminated against far more than the LGBT community.

That was still pretty cruel though.

Life isn't fair and all kinds of wrongs go on, on a daily basis in this country. People denied health care, denied a decent living wage, forced to work and live in conditions not suited for your worst enemy much less a human. People discriminated against for all kinds of reasons, asked to and expected to accept their own physical suffering while there is no need for it....

Lot's of us missed prom (thank god,), now can we please address real issues?......

Oh and this kind of thing causing suicides comment, plenty of us have dealt with far worse and haven't offed ourselves, she can deal with it.

so because someone else has it worse no one can speak about it?

children in child mines in africa have it far worse than the mentally ill so "can we please address real issues?'

there are plenty of people who have committed suicide with seemingly great lives. suicide isn't that predictable

    • I still don't see how OR why the Principal would do that to all the kids. All he would have to do is keep her out citing "improper attire" or some shit. That sort of shit happens at EVERY PROM EVER, EVER. Then he wouldn't sound like a fucking bigot, which he apparently doesn't mind.

What sort of fucking moron dickhead just says "Surely no one will mind if I blatantly show prejudice to the students I don't like by blanket punishing the entire student body for what I perceive as a character flaw in ONE of them."

Somebody get this fucking dickface AWAY FROM CHILDREN IMMEDIATELY, before he ruins them for the rest of their lives, moreso.

Statistically gays and lesbians are more likely to commit suicide because of school bullying.

And I think the children of 'our' future are going to have a hard time picking on the fat kids in school with a 65% national obesity rate.

"Hey other Pot! Check out this Kettle motha fucka! HE'S SO BLACK!"

It's sick and twisted and... and many more words that escape me!

I will say, however, that Constance is a hero. When faced with blatant discrimination she went to whoever she could and said "I'm being wronged. If I'm being wronged, than may others are too!" and she did something about it. Had this happened to me I would have ran and hid like a coward. Constance, you deserve to be celebrated, not delegated to a 9-person-prom on the other side of town while the 'normal' kids live it up...

      What a disgrace..
      Things like this cause suicides.
These people should be ashamed and if something happens to that little girl, they should be charged with a felony for child abuse and endangerment of a child and should serve jail time.
