Russia says genetically modified foods are harmful

Scientists have proved that Genetically Modified Organisms are harmful for mammals. The researchers discovered that animals that eat GM foodstuffs lose their ability to reproduce. Campbell hamsters that have a fast reproduction rate were fed for two years with ordinary soya beans, which are widely used in agriculture and those contain different percentages of GM organisms. Another group of hamsters, the control group, was fed with pure soya, which was found with great difficulty in Serbia because 95 percent of soya in the world is transgenic.

Concerning the experiment carried out jointly by the National Association for Gene Security and the Institute of Ecological and Evolutional Problems, Dr. Alexei Surov has this to say. "We selected several groups of hamsters, kept them in pairs in cells and gave them ordinary food as always," says Alexei Surov. "We did not add anything for one group but the other was fed with soya that contained no GM components, while the third group with some content of Genetically Modified Organisms and the fourth one with increased amount of GMO. We monitored their behavior and how they gain weight and when they give birth to their cubs. Originally, everything went smoothly. However, we noticed quite a serious effect when we selected new pairs from their cubs and continued to feed them as before. These pairs' growth rate was slower and reached their sexual maturity slowly. When we got some of their cubs we formed the new pairs of the third generation. We failed to get cubs from these pairs, which
were fed with GM foodstuffs. It was proved that these pairs lost their ability to give birth to their cubs," Dr. Alexei Surov said.

Another surprise was discovered by scientists in hamsters of the third generation. Hair grew in the mouth of the animals that took part in the experiment. It's unclear why this happened. The researchers cannot understand why a programme of destruction is launched when animals take GMO foodstuffs. They say that this can be neutralized only by stopping to eat these foods. Consequently, scientists suggest imposing a ban on the use of GM foods until they are tested for their bio-security.

The results of Russian scientists coincide with those of their colleagues from France and Austria. For one, when scientist proved that GM maize was harmful for mammals, France banned immediately its production and sale. The scientists who carried out the experiment say that it's too early to make far-reaching conclusions about the health hazards of the GMO. They insist that there is a need to carry out comprehensive research. They suggest implementing the project, "Safety Gene Technology" at the innovation centre, "Skolkovo" which is being set up near Moscow.

    • We need to get back to eating our fruits and vegitables the way nature intended. Do we really need tomatoes that weigh a pound each?

      you can't even buy corn in america that's not Genetically Modified. that means all the cereals, baby food,so many of the things we eat have corn in it...

    • I'm not an expert on this subject, but if these findings are accurate I'm not surprised. Humans have bred plants and animals to suit our needs for centuries. Those changes are very slow and minor and give us time to adapt. In this case, the changes can be made almost instantly and are more than just changes to the size of a crop, like corn.

    • There is no link to the results of the study? And was it peer reviewed?

      Corn/maize is not natural in the first place, it doesn't reproduce without human intervention.

    • another thing is the nano technology in the food and other products they are now using and do not have to tell us about, i think i want to move to France, but that means i gave in without a fight. i wanna fight.

      If you eat any processed food in this country with a soy, corn or canola of any kind as the ingredients, you are eating them. And no, you don't know because this government doesn't want you to know because they know most Americans would not buy their crap if it were labelled, and to them their profits mean more than your health. They in collusion with the FDA have made it so YOUR right to know is taken from you. Monsanto paid many dollars to get the GRAS (generally regarded as safe) label on them to get out of having to tell you that you are eating their test tube crap. And they got the label of substanital equivalence placed on them to make you think they are no different than any other crop, which is absolute, pardon me, bullshit. This is why people need to know about this and call for labelling of foods containing them in this country to give you a choice. But so far, nothing because for all of the talk about "change" it does not translate to real change when it comes to fighting the real enemies we have. Make no mistake about it, this is a stealth attack on the global food market to own all of the seeds so they own you. And if you wish to see what one looks like I will post the videos explaining this again.

      I dought if that is going to happen any time soon. The big companies are whats running the U.S. right now. We as a people have lost the war againest Big Corporations. We have lost even more now that they can give money to big brother with out hideing it.

      You're welcome. I'm never giving up on this. It's too important to us and our children. I'm sending this report to the White House today as well and once again demanding labels on our food. I don't know how much it helps, but we have to keep pounding it in.

      Add Russia to France and Austria as countries whose scientists have confirmed that genetically modified organisms are harmful to mammals. How many scientists will it take to make this an issue tackled seriously by this White House? We need labels on our food Mr. President, to have a choice of whether we wish to play Russian Roulette with our health. It is blatantly undemocratic to continue to force these foods on the world without our consent, especially knowing their health effects on mammals.

      Please take this into consideration, before it is too late.

    • I agree 101%. I don't know why people want to push this crap on us. just what we need something to change us a little at a time. Something so slow they it takes hundreds of years to kill us off or worst change us into somekind of freak of nature. Well not quite very natural if it is man that does it to the planet is it? Just what do all them chemicals do to all the other life out in the big bad world? You know all the ones that are flushed down the drain. The ones the mother finds in her kids clothes or the one that are sworn off even better yet the ones that are no longer needed. Every thing we do to the planet is going to come back to haunt us.Every little plant that is treated with what ever the Hell it is is going to come back to bite us in the ass. I hate to see what our future is going to look like.
