How to Save the Planet - Part 1

JD_Buffalo
Eco-warriors do more than just chase down whaling ships or chain themselves to redwood trees; an equally vicious battle is taking place on Capitol Hill. Lobbyists, protesters and legislators descend on Washington, D.C. to hash out the merits of the controversial American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009, which some say is the first step in reversing global warming, while other are convinced it's the death knell for the U.S. economy.

This is Part 1 in a four part web series where we follow this controversial bill through the House of Representatives. What does it take to pass climate legislation? What deals need to be cut? What parliamentary tricks have to be pulled?

The full 30 minute documentary airs tonight on Current TV at 9:30pm. Part 2 will be posted online tomorrow.

    • How to save a planet? Really? It should have been "how to save ourselves". Planet is going nowhere. It's been here for billions of years and will still be here billions of years from now. All these environmental concerns are not for the planet, they are all for saving our asses and living comfortably in 76 F degree temperature. Think about it.

    • one way to help the environment is lower birth rates! we are over populating the world which can cause more pollution. The less people we have the less need for cities less cars on the road. Im not saying less just start mass killing but if people would start having one kid instead of 4 our birth rates would go down. This video is very informational im surprised theres only about 5 comments on it...

    • Don't you find it ironic that the same government pulling the strings leading us into a potential nuclear war, is also claiming to be able to save the planet with a carbon tax?

How about planting some f00king trees? Why don't we tear down the cities and rebuild the forests?

      Hahaha! You fools!

    • What Congress has to do to pass a climate bill is not what MUST be done to save the climate. The bill currently in the Senate is totally inadequate to stave off the worst effects of climate change, because they are still too worried about not offending coal and oil lobbies. Offshore drilling and "clean" coal (what a farce) is NOT how we are going to save the clImate balamce of thIs planet. Why we are even believing politicians know the level of commitment and consciousness it takes to meet this challenge is laughable.

    • There are three battles. The first is plain civil disobedience against the outrage. The second is crafting legislation that works, which is not being done and which is being sandbagged and reversed by some really useless Democrats, not to mention the Republicans who are boycotting America forever and ever until they get back "their" power.

The third battle, which gets no publicity whatsoever, is the lone inventors daring the world to rob them of their life's work, because assuming that we're all going to die someday these people want to go down to their graves satisfied that they did right. Invention takes courage these days, and a little money, and lots of people just don't have enough of one or the other to try, probably because nobody else stands with them.
