Obama Heckled Over DADT Policy Repeal, Agrees

At a lavish fundraiser for Senator Barbara Boxer, President Obama recived a mixed reception when GET EQUAL an activists organzation stood up and began heckling the president. GET EQUAL is working to pressure the president on LGBT issues including the unpopular Don't Ask Don't Tell policy, which bans Gays and Lesbians from serving in the military.

The reason that many activists are acting up is because the White House Congressional Liaison's office has been reportedly asking congress members to not put the Don't Ask Don't Tell repeal into the body of the Defense Authorization bill. An action that the White House has denied.

Two of California's top gay-rights leaders said the heckling was by no means out of line.

"I think getting heckled is nothing compared to getting kicked out of the military and losing your job and getting fired simply because you're gay, because there's no federal protection, or getting denied Social Security benefits because the administration has made no effort to repeal DOMA [the Defense of Marriage Act] and has actually defended it in court," said Equality California Executive Director Geoff Kors.

    • This just goes to show that the Left can be as stupid as the rightwing conservatives such as the Tea Partiers. They start protesting at an unrelated event for the re-election of a person who is quite apparently against the "don't ask, don't tell" policy. Yeah, real smart, guys! Right now, we have biggest fish to fry than the selfish goals of a select few namely the getting the economy back on track. There have been gays in the military long before the policy and there will be long after, but right now? Show a little common sense and prioritization and at least know where and when to protest to be more effective.

I don't blame Obama for pointing out the obvious to the oblivious. It's hard to tolerate stupidity regardless of the nobility of the goal.

you know what was bad for the economy? ending slavery. i'm sure all of those fighting for it didn't really care about the effects to the economy. and i'm pretty sure that everyone can agree it was a good thing.

should i wait for the economy to get back on it's feet before i focus on any other issue? you should realize that like abortion rights, gay rights get pushed back on a regular if there isn't a large grassroots force against it. if we stop fighting for a right, we lose the few other ones we have. that's just our history with legislation.

i haven't seen any direct effect on my life due to the economy other than being laid off for a couple of months a year ago. i was lower middle class before this downturn and i'm sure that when the economy is all better in ten years, i'll still be lower middle class. i'm not going to put my life on hold, my career on hold, my family on hold because some politicians and banks are crooks.

lol do you think i should stop dating for two years until obama gets reelected and decides to help us out?

Well actually WH Council got caught requesting congress not to put the DADT Repeal in to the Defense Authorization bill that is coming up this year. That is why these actions are popping up.
