    • His behavior is reprehensible. What is the name of the show? What is the name of the host? And to think he became a Catholic Priest, well that just takes the cake, doesn't it.

Hmmmm. I found no evidence that suggested that Fergie Olver became a priest... ? Is this humor? Hard to tell sometimes in these threads...

    • Okay because this thread is still on the front page--and because it has become too dark and sad--here's some dark humor/irony/sarcasm.

Seriously why is this news--TV producers and TV audiences in the 60's watched a show where the parents -- apparently missing the irony-- named their son- Beaver Cleaver.

    • ...we had a show down under that aired in the 70's...top of the ratings...it has now only come out that the male lead was touching the younger female leads inappropriately...one female, about 10 at the time went to producer of show and was told to keep it quiet...30 yrs on, it has now gone to court, and even members of his family are coming out and verifying his disgusting behaviour...it was the times, people were too scared to come forward...top rating shows, kids terrified, money involved...thank god, we now view this sort of behaviour as never, ever acceptable...when I was on a kid's show in the seventies, the bloody producer himself, sent me to a photo shoot for a promotion for the show...the whole thing was set up for a porno shoot...my father was with me, saw the shagpile carpet, and sleezy photographer...but I could have been alone...the show denied everything...sigh...

I have to say I didn't read your whole post becsuse it was just really long. I contented myself with reading till I got to the first completely wrong point. That was sentance nunber one. JJammer was not kicked for "being a racist" he was kicked for violating the terms of service. If the terms of service said "thou shalt not talk abou bunny rabbits" and he repetitively did that he would have been kicked too. It's really pretty cut and dried. There's no conspiracy here. If you have a problem it's with the terms of service agreement you signed. I've got some issues with it myself, but it's not my call.

What I don't understand is WTF this has to do with 70's game show footage?

Hey j_jammer how is it going for ya? I sure do wish you would just setlle down and take things in stride. This is nothing to get up set about. But hey it's a free world (well in most places) so you do what Ya gotta do to make yourself happy. Good seeing you again though.

LOL come to think of it, I can't think of a game show hosted by a woman now... but I don't watch many game shows, so maybe I missed something. From what I've read, this guy actually co-hosted this show with his wife.

That link I posted says, "A Canadian game show called Just Like Mom aired from 1980-1985. Fergie Olver ...and his wife Catherine Swing co-hosted the show for 4 of those years."

    • To all those replying with demands for terrible judgement. Of course you feel that way. You were just told to.

The poster told you how you were going to feel, presented the information in a way to support that feeling, and then told you how you felt.
      That's boilerplate persuasive speech tactics.
There were some things that were not mentioned. Such as the fact that kissing all the girls on the show was part of the sthick. Everyone going on that show knew the deal. David letterman still kisses all his female guests and not all of them seem to appreciate it either, but it is de rigour. It might have been creepier, or even possibly insulting to the girls if he did not. Remember, this was the seventies, back when flight attendants were called stewardesses and were picked for their ability to wear a polyester micro mini skirt, which at the time was considered an act of woman's rights. It's sexist but not pedo.

I agree with what you said, I just wish there was somewhere else to put this. I would suggest something, but I don't even know what to call it. Entertainment? I guess all I'm saying is that I would rather the News flag be for News, not just... whatever this is.

Like what I said to bombastinator, I wish the news format was specifically for news, not for whatever you could call this, because I feel this is not news, as the group implies. Now normally, I wouldn't be bothered with this type of story, I would ignore it, and just move on, but when something like this moves to the #1 spot on the news group, I get extremely aggravated.

    • My question to the people I invited here was, why was this allowed?? Not to help the kids or to get them paid, because it's to late. But to understand the mentality of the people in those times.

I know there are people here on current that would have remember this show and host and maybe give me a little insight in what was going on. I know this is not happening now, but how is he being left alone, when kids under 18 right now, are in jail because they had consensual sex with another teen.

      That's my point!

    • This is just sad and frustrating because once again nobody was there at the time this was actually happening who gave a rats ass about protecting these children from this pedophile but now its become "politically correct" to call out pedophiles that are either dead or 90 for their behavior and throw a few dollars to the victims as compensation for their "suffering".

Ugh! all hush money does is re-victimize the victim and keep them from moving on--and all digging up video and showing actual images of the abuse does is pull the scab off of/or re-open the wound that surrounds childhood sexual abuse.

because being on tv was fairly new, and back then most parents were still in denial that those kinds of creeps would be allowed on the almighty television.Look at the mother of polanskis' victim, that explains alot about the 70's and perversion. Most of those parents were showbiz mothers that would do anything to get there kid on v.

my question is why didn't the TV show producers do anything about it when it was actually happening? Or the networks? Was this allowed to air in prime-time without objections--seriously? at least the poster on Current included a small content warning--Also why are YouTube or now even Current allowed to put this out there? It's basically allowing images of inappropriate behavior towards children be shown without any regard to the privacy of the children involved and without any regard to the fact this might trigger some major memories or flashbacks--and the kicker--not only is the video in poor taste the original commentator makes jokes about how this "host" obviously went on to become a Catholic priest.

Well considering the kids featured in the video are grown now its rather late to call in social services or take their parents to task. Also given the fact that even now the Pope finally manned up enough to acknowledge priests have been molesting children for years (if not decades and/or centuries) while the rest of society just looked the other way--its highly unlikely that society is suddenly going to jump up and down and demand that incest and child sexual abuse finally be discussed out in the open and in the light of day based on some archaic video from the 70's.

I guess we just have to agree to disagree. Because to me bringing this up and showing it to a new generation and/or trying to use it to shame the generation that let it happen (and did nothing to stop it) into suddenly feeling remorse is pretty much pointless and/or the expression of a need to exorcise some type of personal demons (and Current is not necessarily the best choice of a place to perform exorcisms)

That and honestly there is not a lot of confusion about the mentality of people around the idea of the sexual abuse of children--people either get that molesting children is wrong and go into social service type fields to fight for these children and protect them or they hide their head in the sand and pretend its not happening to anyone they know so why should they care?

Also just for clarification--teenagers having consensual sex where one of them is 15 and the other is 18 is not necessarily a "good thing" but I agree it should not qualify someone for sex offender status--but its also nothing like what is being shown in this video where a guy in his 40's is seen kissing young girls who aren't yet in their teens---so did I somehow miss your point or just misinterpret it or what?
