A British family are at the centre of a court case after telling the US hotel they were staying in that they did not want to be served by coloured people or those with a foreign accent.

The family who identified only by their principle member, Rodney Morgan, then had these details entered into the hotels computer system in order that their wishes for the stay at the 5 star hotel be complied with.

The race row came to light after lawyers representing Haitain born Wadner Tranchant sued the hotel.

The 40 year old waited was asked not to serve the family in order to avoid upsetting them.

His lawyers have cited the Civil Rights Act of 1866, which was passed a year after blacks were freed from slavery following the end of the American civil war, which makes it illegal to discriminate in jobs and housing on the basis of race.
