Training Afghanistan's Cops: Raw Video

A centrepiece of U.S. President Barack Obama's Afghanistan strategy is the training of Afghan security forces in order to facilitate the eventual withdrawal of NATO forces.
Obama has said a U.S. troop withdrawal could begin from the middle of 2011, raising alarm bells among some in the Afghan political and military leadership, who fear being abandoned.
"The purpose of training is that we want them... we have them lead all the missions. We want them to be able to shoot effectively and kill the enemy that attack," Company Commander Sergeant First Class Jeremy Ellis said.
Success depends on building capable and loyal Afghan forces, a difficult feat especially in the south, where many Afghan recruits quit due to poor pay and dangerous conditions.
"There are lots of Taliban and drug smugglers in this area, they repeatedly attack our checkpoints, but we are using tactics that we have learned from these training sessions, we target the enemies and defeat them," said Abdul Sattar Noorzai, commander of police quick reaction forces of Nahr-e-Saraj in Lashkar Gah.
Obama announced last December he would be sending an extra 30,000 troops to Afghanistan to try and turn the tide in the eight-year-war. Apart from combat troops, thousands of army trainers and enablers such as air crew will also be arriving in the country.

We've been training Afghans since day one. This is not a new strategy implemented by President Obama. Cool video but this is nothing new.

Everything done is now because of Obama even though every single strategy was suggested or already in place during bush. Only difference is a democrat is president so liberals are not trying to sabatoge the wars like they were doing for 8 years.

Well, it is not as if the U.S.A troops knows, let alone understand what they are doing. If learning to kill required a certain level of intelligence, they would be individuals, and groups whom would think before acting. Moreover, they would be given the chance to be heard. However, soldiers are not there to think, they are there to do as they are told, so whoever made the decision of training Afghanistan's police officers needs a brain transplant.

“They cant grasp the concept of anything but their pay check”
This is the problem with the US training foreign troops. In a place as poor as Afghanistan corruption is rampant. After they are trained soldiers they are likely to fight for whoever will pay the most for their services. Just like the Los Zetas in Mexico.

Actually, Los Zetas is a criminal organization in Mexico dedicated mostly to international illegal drug trade. This drug cartel was founded by an elite force of assassins from Mexican Army deserters and is now integrated by corrupt ex-federal, state, and local police officers, as well as ex-Kaibiles from Guatemala.

wow the cops in Afghanistan need scoped LMGs? are these imported afghans? i thought the afghans could work magic with an ak. hmm... no disrespect or anything. aside from the fact that our presence there is only to secure the poppy fields for big pharma.

the afghans who work magic with an ak are the older generation of afghans who fought in the soviet afghan war and the current taliban are the ones who know anything about guns...these cops are poor laborers who have grown up in rural farms and generally never used guns...as this video shows
