I'm among the legions of pot smokers who have a chronic disease. For me it's severe eczema that itches like hell, splits my hands and feet (and right now face) into tens of cuts, and hurts from swelling. Nothing else ever works. I've tried the sleeping pills, drink, exhaustion - nothing. Cannabis dulls the pain and distracts my mind from the itching, which allows me to drift off. I wake up fresh. When I visit my in-laws I can't bring any, and I stay awake 20-30 hours at a time, finally collapsing for 4-5 hours between. That's what my life would be like without it.
I'm really trying to get my eczema under control without having to resort to drugs with potentially awful side effects. Of all the drugs that I've used, only prednisone works as well as cannabis in easing the symptoms - after all, being awake 2-4 more hours a day means that much more itching, and feeling rested is more precious than many people realize. But prednisone is so dangerous you can only stay on it a few weeks at a time.
Thanks for all the articles; they make me hopeful someday I'll be able to simply buy some at the pharmacy, or better yet grow it at home. Music sounds great, the world kind of sparkles, and I get very tired. How bad can it be?

Wouldn't it be nice if we could crawl back into our mothers wombs? Well, your 'Dermatologist' may or not agree that it is possible. Dead Sea Salt (DSS) treatments may be the ticket, as well as MgCL2 and Arm and Hammer Baking Soda. Bokek DSS can be ordered at http://www.saltworks.us/. See the post below and give it a try. Follow the instructions on the containers.

I'm a 30 yo severe eczema sufferer. I get it all over my body, since about 14. It is without any question the biggest problem I have in life and makes anything else seem trivial in comaprison.
I smoked weed for many years, I'd usually take a break every few months or so because I didn't like the huge lack of motivation it bought about after a certain amount of time. I realise this isn't the case with everyone, but it was with me. So I tended to go in waves. Smoke for a few months, quit (not easily) for a few months, etc etc. I haven't smoked for a good 6 months now.
But onto the point. Eczema is a serious condition. My strong recommendation would be to see a professional dermatologist. Whatever you may think you know, these guys know the leading edge of research in the area. They know more than you. Firstly and most importantly, a dermatologist will NEVER prescribe you prednisone! They will recommend you soap alternatives and a moisturiser to use regularly and they will also give you creams to use - these are unfortunately cortisone (steroid) based HOWEVER the risks of NOT treating eczema far outweigh the side effects of using creams. Creams are nowhere near as bad as orally taken Prednisone, which is the entire reason creams exist.
I don't look upon weed in a positive light, never have (even when I was taking it) but I'm not going to tell anyone to stop taking it. But for me weed doesn't help, homoeopathy doesnt help, naturapaths dont help, Chinese medicine doesnt help, accupuncture doesn thelp. The only thing that helps is conventional western medicine with scientifically proven results (funny that). I don't LIKE the treatment, but I accept it's all there is.
I think it's very irresponsible that this article is spreading potentially dangerous misinformation like 'only weed works, dont bother with anything else'.
To people seeking advice, see a professional dermatologist. They know more than some pothead.

Topical Magnesium Chloride may be an option. Although, when first starting the treatment, you may want to dilute by 50% and have a hit as it may cause a burring sensation. Here is a link http://www.swansonvitamins.com/_/n-?ntt=Magnesium%2BOil and more information at http://naturalallopathicclinic.com/.

As someone who has the EXACT problems as the poster, I can honestly say that marijuana has been the biggest help. I've had really bad eczema for 24 years and counting with flare up happening all over my arms, hands, feet and the worse one, bottom of my feet. Cracks in my skin, puss bubbles everywhere, infected skin. I've used tar medication over 60 years old, I've been on every steroid (oral and topical) known to man. I've taken hundreds of pills, had hundreds of shots. I've had to wrap my hands in saran wrap or wear plastic gloves close to 15% of the nights of my entire life to stop the itching. I've had to wrap my feet in it too, to hold in moisture so I could walk that week, or play sports or hell, do anything. It's great going out in public with half your hands covered in bandages because if you don't have bandages on, people think they are going to contact your skin disease. I can't sleep most nights and like the poster, go for days without sleep. You are goddamn right I get high. Pain goes away, I don't feel the itching sensations as much, I can actually get two hours of sleep without waking up scratching off half my skin so it's red in that area for two weeks. Nothing, I mean nothing works like pot. 24 years and I this is still illegal yet I suffer every day. I know how you feel poster, don't ever let anyone tell you smoking pot is wrong for eczema, I KNOW what your pain is.

If you do a colon cleanse, by supplements or high colonics, it will help out your skin condition. 15 colonics in 30 days gets the best results. You also need to replace the microflora in your digestive system while cleaning your digestive tract.

OP, get your thyroid checked. it could be contributing to your skin problems, especially when it doesn't respond well to moisturizing. thyroid disease effects every cell in your body, and is very common and under-diagnosed. i've been medicated for less than a week and my skin is clearing up already. nothing wrong with toking, but if there is a hormonal inbalance in your body pot isn't going to make you feel better in the long run. good luck!

Try coconut and lavender oil on your affected areas. Rub first the lavender, then the coconut in right before sleep, and when you wake up. It's very beneficial to add lavender oil to a bath of hot water and Epsom salts (be careful with the salt if you have lots of open areas). Keep using the Cannabis; it sounds like it does you good. And it's not 'bad'. People have been told by authority figures for years that it is bad, so that is why. It is bad because it's always been bad, or perceived that way anyway. Some reasons it was deemed bad were based on severely racist and closed-mined ideas that are no longer even relevant; but stupid people are just going to believe stupid things I guess. Never tried it myself; but I've only heard good about it from people I know; and they have dealt with anxiety/depression, anorexia and stomach cancer, and it helped them through.

GodsnLiberals, if you only knew what it is like to have your skin break out in a burning rash after only 3 minutes in the sun, you wouldn’t be so insensitive to people who suffer. I can’t BBQ, I can’t go to the beach anymore, I can’t backpack anymore, I can hardly sit in a car without the sun burning me through the glass. I have to keep the curtains closed so window light does not burn the skin around my eyes. My own immune system attacks my skin when ultra violet light hits me. If Pot or anything else can sooth my pain when I break out, I will take it. Anything that helps should be available to people who suffer from disease. If you cannot be sensitive to that, then you clearly have antisocial personality disorder. May it NOT happen to you, but some day, some disease will. Don’t be a fool. No one is impressed by adolescent behavior except for you.

SMOKING DOPE does its just take your mind away from it..MEANING ..its not going to cure the eczema..
I would not be suprised if his "itching attacks" are nothing more than just twitches just like a crack feind...the mind is telling the feind to smoke his dope....
you guys need to sober up and realize that you guys sound weak minded and pathetic on how you conjure up positive bullshit to smoke your dope..
well from the part of reality where people are level headed and sober..you guys sound pretty weak minded...easily manipulated..dependent..needing someone to tell you what to do..hence you agree with these liberal takeovers

GodsnLiberals:
Okay, okay. No. I'm not letting this slide.
#1: There is no known cure for eczema. The article explains that his other treatments were trying to do exactly what you are decrying - taking his mind off of it so he can rest and enjoy life. Thanks for playing, try again.
#2: Marijuana usage does -not- give any physical side affects that emulate being addicted to crack. There is no shaking, jitters, or the like. There -can- be paranoia which, in heavy usage or with heavy paranoia may cause shaking. There can also be damage to the lungs from smoking the plant (same as any smoke inhalation), among other milder side affects, but there is absolutely no possible way smoking pot is causing his eczema or "itching attacks".
#3: When you say "you guys", I assume you are referring to all marijuana users who wish that it was legalized, or those who may not use it but also wish that it was legalized. How can you make these arguments based off of two words that hunzedog has said here? You're lashing out and making attacks at people without using any basis for logic or reasoning.
From the part of reality where people are level-headed, logical, rational, and sober most of the time, you sound like a broken record that has been spinning since the Reagan administration began denying that AIDS existed. Medical and scientific research is being conducted on this issue, and people like you who decry it without any basis other than social subjugation are only furthering your like-minded mindsets which have -no- -basis- -in- -reality-. I'm not saying people should be lighting up at all hours of the day; pot makes you fuzzy, it slows you down, etc., it's not good to abuse it, much in the same way it's not good to abuse -anything-. But it infuriates me to see people like you get on your high horse and trot around like you have moral superiority over people simply because they choose to indulge in an intoxicant which, while illegal, has been proven to be less damaging than many other legal intoxicants.
Also, would you mind explaining what these "liberal takeovers" are? I think that all of us who "need someone" to tell us what to do would like to be in on whatever information you've got, since we're so obviously stoned out of our gourds that we can't process any information correctly. Please, GodsnLiberals, enlighten us.

Ignoring ignorance only breeds more ignorance. I know how he's regarded generally, but I feel like if certain things are never challenged or said, how are any of us to ever grow or change mentally? If what you say is true about the parenting and all, then he needs to hear this sort of thing even more.

see the thing is, its not going to cure the ailments you have, but it will help you cope with the pain and other things while in the healing process.
now although hemp oil, or honey oil can both be applied to the skin, i do not know if thy would be able to help with that kind of skin disorder. now as far as pain goes, sure it will help, but i still wouldn't suggest going out in the sun.

With cannabis you can live your life instead of just surviving, I think that's a beautiful thing.
Just as a side note to the harmful effects of steroids... My baby (the one pictured) has severe allergies and after daily doses of benadryl (which did nothing) the vet started him on steroids. Within 3 days my baby developed bleeding stomach ulcers and I found him laying next to a pool of blood one day. After surgery and a year later, he is still not able to eat regular dog food because of the damage to his stomach. Point of the story is that's just my dog! Steroid damage is proven and extremey harmful. Focusing on facts, not one person can argue that pharmaceuticals would be the safer alternative in these situations.
Keep fighting the good fight!

screw Benadryl and all of the pharmaceutical companies. I have a 14 year old dachshund that I would literally give my life for. He has some joint problems. We have been giving him a pea sized amount of weed butter every day, and he seems to be much more active and alert, rather than just wanting to lay on the bed all day, or go back to the car when we take him on walks.

Imagine not having the opportunity and freedom to make a health choice like that for you or for your dog. You're doing what's right to provide him with the best quality of life. Why should people or animals have to unnecessarily suffer just because of ignorance and demonization of marijuana? I’m sick of all these people who harp on the fact that marijuana is illegal. Being illegal does not diminish the benefits and necessity! I can totally relate to you because my dog is the greatest love of my life!
