If they want to go to court in Texas, why not punish them in that style. Does anyone know if having a horse drag them across... say 500 yards considered humane?

I agree. Nothing about corporate lawyers should surprise anyone. First Transocean tries to cap its liability (pardon the pun) at $27 million for an exposure that is conservatively estimated to this point to be $10 billion. Now BP figures they'll stack a jury with good ole boys and get off without paying for what they've done. Sure, maybe it 'shouldn't be a surprise' but that's just it. For them it's just "business as usual." So what if we spoiled one of the world's most precarious 'carbon sinks'? Who cares? We got a Texas court in our back pocket. Screw the plaintiffs. Where's John Grisham?

I don't know how well that is going to go over in Texas, the Motto is "don't mess with Texas" after all... On a serious not, the jury pool is so tainted they would have to go to Mars to find anyone to be mildly sympathetic. Although if hardly any oil land on beaches where people in Texas can see it they might have a chance, slim but still a chance.

This is a standard legal tactic, and as such shouldn't be a surprise.
