On Wednesday night, the London 2012 Olympic organisers have unveiled the identity of the mascots.
Wenlock (for the Olympics) is derived by the place Much Wenlock, the birthplace of the modern Olympics (or at the time, 'The Wenlock Games'), while Mandeville (for the Paralympics) is derived by Stoke Mandeville, the birthplace of the Paralympics (which was known as the 'Stoke Mandeville Games' at the time).

I had very low expectations after that horrible logo, but I have to say I really like them and their pixaresque look!
