Spanish bullfighter gets brutally gored (Warning Graphic)

CarlosBobthe3rd
The incident took place during the Festival of Saint Isidro, considered to be the most important event in the bullfighting calendar, at the Plaza de Toros las Ventas bullring, which can seat up to 24,000 people.

UPDATE: After two operations, it appears leading surgeon Maximo Garcia Pedros has saved Aparicio's life. The bull, however, was quickly killed by other matadors

    • The human knew the risks... Why do they put the bull down when HE wins? Human's... more dangerous and UN-trustworthy than ANY animal!

He chose to do this. Either he knew, going in, what could happen... or he's even stupider than I'd first thought.

That poor bull, though!!! He died after pain and fear... tears for him.

    • hooked him thru the jaw!!! OUCH.
      Reminds me of a joke.

A tourist goes to spain and wants to try some authentic Spanish cuisine, to get the full experience.

He sits down and starts reading a menu. Another man is sitting at a table nearby and a waiter exits the kitchen with a platter. The Spanish diners all applaud and cheer as the platter is set before the Spaniard, who uncovers it to reveal two large hunks of steaming round meat.

The tourist calls the waiter over and asks him, "What is that man eating that caused so much celebration?"

The waiter responds: "Ees de especial of de day. De man asked for Bullfight eSpecial, an' dose are de testicles from de bull that was killed in the fight."

The tourist nods, and orders a different meal.

the next day, the tourist decides to go back and order the Bullfight Special. He places his order and waits patiently.

After a short wait, The waiter exits the kitchen with the platter. This time, however, no one applauds or cheers. He receives cold stares from the other Spanish diners.

The waiter places the platter on the tourist's table, and open the lid. There, in the middle of the plate, are two olive-sized lumps of meat.

The tourist is disappointed. "Hey, what's this? This doesn't look like the Bullfight Special you served yesterday!"

The waiter responds, "Señor, sometime de bull he not lose!"

    • In a movie called Americano there is a bull fight and the tradition is explained. I still don't agree with it, but it is interesting to know what the bull fight means to latin cultures. I mean, many people think it is sport to sit in a deer lease and wait for deer to walk up to a salt lick and then shoot them. They say they are "hunting", but really they are just drinking beer, hanging out and waiting for an animal to walk in front of their guns.

good lord. you don't seem to know squat about hunting. it takes a lot more effort than that. most people I know can go for a couple of years without getting a deer. many hunters have a chance to kill a deer but let it live, generally because it's too young, wrong gender, possibily unethical shot, etc. I myself hunted ek with my parents for about 10 years. I think out of 10 years they got 3 or 4 animals. Mostly we hiked for 12 to 14 hours per day looking for the game. I've hunted Mule Deer in Colorado for two years without luck, each day hiking as much as 10 miles through rough terrain. It is VERY difficult to hunt, it's not quite as simple as you make it sound.

BUT...it's pretty rare the deer ever gore a hunter. My hats off to the toreros.

Wow, I'm really glad you are so involved with your hunting experience. If you read what I put, I said "many people", and I wasn't talking about actual hunting. I was talking about when people say they are "hunting", but unlike you, they aren't enduring the elements and physical strain of actually pursuing an animal. Actually, your post sort of furthers my comment. You have thoroughly detailed the correct way to hunt. Not the lazy, incorrect way which I had previously described.

    • One word... OUCH! It's nice to see the bull win once in a while. It keeps it interesting. I wonder what happens to the bull when HE wins?

they kill the bull anyway. Personally I think that's a mistake. The sport would benefit from letting the winning bull earn the right to survive. And his offspring would be worth much more money, there would be more intrigue about the animal and people would follow the bull bloodlines and progeny just like they do famous athletes.

      But, it's a tradition.

    • Lets go to the rodeo.

How about we ask the bull what it prefers, a fair(ish) fight with a bullfighter, or confined in a small space with a rope tied round his privates while a guy climbs on and then rides him round until he shakes the git off. At least theres a level of skill involved in bullfighting.

No one in the sport is complaining, these things happen and it can be a lot worse. I'm sure that when hopefully this guy makes a full recovery he will be back in the ring.

I'm not sure about the tags, because this story has nothing to do with animal rights, cruelty or exploitation, it was a sporting accident, nothing more.

do you feel bad for those poor horsies in rodeos too? the ones that actually seem to enjoy racing, chasing cows, etc?

how about hunting dogs? are they abused as they do what they LOVE, to chase down a rabbit or fetch a bird?

Yeah, but there are more tags for animals than what the story is actually about, which is a horrific sports injury during a massive public event. It's not that big a deal, its one bull that up to that point has been living in a nice big field pleasing lots of juicy cows.

No one can control how they die, its pointless trying and even illegal if you're terminal and ask someone to help. As ways to die go, a fight to the death isn't that bad compared with cancer and various other diseases, in fact to die in battle is seen as a great honour to some cultures most seem ignorant of.

Personally if I had to choose I would go with skydiving without a parachute, I would love to leave an impact on this world whether in peoples hearts or a bloody crater.

    • good for the bull. the bull fighters know what they are risking and that is why they are so venerated. guess they all deserve a good goring just as much as they feel the bull deserved being tormented to death.
