*The Attack on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla and International Law* by Lawyers for Palestinian Human Rights

worrg
Imposing a blockade over a coastline is not legal under international law save in specific circumstances involving armed conflict: war must be declared (imposing a unilateral blockade is, in and of itself, an act of war) or Israel must be acting as a belligerent occupier (something which it strongly denies). The Law of the Sea is quite plain that, when an incident takes place on a ship on the high seas (outside anybody's territorial waters), the applicable law is that of the flag state of the ship on which the incident occurred. In legal terms, the Turkish ship was Turkish territory. http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/recent-news/385-freedom-flotilla

    • This is disgusting, Israel had no right to shoot there were no guns on the flotilla, this was the tenth time the freegaza movement came, Israel had never shot on them, they only stopped them the last three times without explanation, freegaza had the right to bring those humanitarian aids.

actualy they didnt as have the right as this aide was not requested by anyone in gaza or the un.they took it upon themselves to decide this needed to be done.
since when does a military force not have the right to use guns? should they have holstered thier side arms and instead used knifes, until guns were brought into it?

curious why this humanatarian aide mission came with a ready to film camera crew, red cross/crescent dont do that.nor do they need any weaponry to bring aide to anyone including gaza

They had no right to use violence in international waters, now everyone is saying that all have been freed but the palistinians and the leader of freegaza is still held captive. And about the necessity of aides, well none of us really knows what's happening over there, they have brought aides frequently until a shipment was blocked so this time they came with more aides and I believe the aides were used in some way.

maybe not by your method of measurement, but any nation would have done the same.
i mean israel builds a wall its an aprthied
we build a wall bordering mexico its security
israel responds to threats its bullying
      we respond its defense

if you dont like thier action, by all means your are entitled to your personal opinion, but geopolitical standards make what israel did not only reasonable, but appropriate and an example of how a nation secures the safety of its population.

the aide issue of course is contencious and not productive as of course its a diaspora therefore not thriving so to speak, but also they have a population not decreasing but increasing, and has an economic class system.for what its worth i figure its an iraq ype situation that is common in the middle east where places like bagdag are metropolis's at the expense of the poor.no middle ground or governmental oversight.

but the big picture is that hamas really should bear the responsability for providing for thier people and not rely on foriegn aide, just the same as the hussien family did in iraq.the means to privide wer present, but not distributed.in light of that being the situation at hand aide gets in. the red cross/crescent has no problems getting aide to gazans, doctors without borders has no problem doing theyre job in gaza, israel even provides a great deal of the supplies that are aide for gazans. this ship isnt indicative of the situation persuent to aide, it is straight up antagonism, hence the treatment it recieved.

just as 99 percent of the black panthers arrested in the seventies were freed those who were guilty of encitement towards violence were not.calling your ship humanatarian doesnt mean it is such.i mean fox's tag line is fair and balanced right.im just in favor of pragmatic evaluation. when all other endevours under the intent of humanatarianism succeed where this one fails, why is that.

why did this ship come equiped with weapons when no others do?
why did this ship have a camera crew ready to film when others do not?
why is the video shot by turkish media not show the same events other footage shows?
why if humanatarian aide is needed so badly (as they state) did they choose the path of greatest resistance, while never bothering to ask the egyptians for access to gaza?
