I think the president's gesture was to keep the issue in front of people; to keep reminding people that LGBT issues are still on the table. Because of the "hateful, angry people", we probably won't see any legislation until his second term; BUT it's good to have this reminder every year from the administration. If it's true, I kinda wish this was released to the mainstream media also and not just LGBT, but still -- any visibility is a good thing!

With respect, but that is nonsense. Marriage has nothing to with anyone's approval other than the priest and the people getting married. You can not 'endorse' homosexuality as that is your right, but that should have nothing to do with a tax-paying citizen of our union being denied rights because you and people like you don't how they live. It simply is not your business to decide how someone else should live. Call it want you want, but believing homosexuals people shouldn't marry in our country is simply discrimination.

Herein lies your mistake. Marriage is not a right, it is a sanction given by a state (it's people). This is what a marriage license is, has nothing to do with saying which people can be together. It is simply a state putting its stamp of approval on a union that it deems to be beneficial.
Try not to be carried away with the hooting of people who are ignorant and actually examine what marriage is.
If you want to argue whether a state has the right to endorse ANY living situation, that is a whole other issue.

While your specific definition of marriage is correct, that is not the debate. The issue is the application of rights. The nature of marriage is common knowledge, but again, that is not the point. The point is that states are deciding who gets certain rights and privileges based on who they give that license to. The debate is not about who can be together. This is happening already. The problem is that civil rights are based on the subjective nature of marriage. Again, this is what we call discrimination. The criteria for who and who should not receive rights (again, not the right to marry, but the rights married couples are afforded) should not be based on whether or not you like the lifestyle.
