Mars Inc.(The Owner of Starburt/M&M's etc.) Candy Company Tests Their Candy on Animals

greywrld
Got a sweet tooth? Think twice before picking up a Mars candy bar! You should know that candymaker Mars, Inc.—creator of M&M's, Snickers, Twix, Dove, Three Musketeers, Starburst, Skittles, and other candies—funds deadly animal tests, even though there are more reliable human studies and not one of the tests is required by law.

Mars recently funded a deadly experiment on rats to determine the effects of chocolate ingredients on their blood vessels. Experimenters force-fed the rats by shoving plastic tubes down their throats and then cut open the rats' legs to expose an artery, which was clamped shut to block blood flow. After the experiment, the animals were killed. Mars has also funded cruel experiments in which mice were fed a candy ingredient and forced to swim in a pool of a water mixed with white paint. The mice had to find a hidden platform to avoid drowning, only to be killed and dissected later on. In yet another experiment supported by Mars, rats were fed cocoa and anesthetized with carbon dioxide so that their blood could be collected by injecting a needle directly into their hearts, which can lead to internal bleeding and other deadly complications.

Mars' top competitor, Hershey's, has pledged not to fund or conduct experiments on animals. Other major food corporations—including Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Ocean Spray, Welch's, and POM Wonderful—have also publicly ended animal tests after hearing from PETA.

You missed the point...There is no correlation between cats/dogs reaction and ours so testing something on them will not yield the same results as it would on a person.

Based? Well if you read the article I posted previously or knew anything about animal testing you would know that testing products on animals won't save your childs life or any other humans for that matter.

The reason there are so many dogs and cats who are unwanted is because stupid people buy them directly or indirectly from breeders, and then don't spay or neuter them! Then, if they're forced to move, or they just get bored with the animal, they abandon the poor thing. So the breeding - and inbreeding - goes on and on and on. And that's why I'm an advocate of TNR for feral and stray cats.

I'm not sure that I am "claiming that all animal testing is just because scientists are sadistic monsters who like to see animals suffer", but rather that the scientists who who use these methods in order to get results to their experiments are stuck in their old ways of thinking. There was a time when we didn't have computer models, quantum pharmacology,in vitro tests ,human stem cells, etc., but now that we do it is most commonly known that these practices work much better than animal testing.Animal tests are primitive, and modern technology and human clinical tests are much more effective and reliable.Human clinical and epidemiological studies, studies on cadavers, and computer simulations are faster, more reliable, less expensive, and more humane than animal tests. Ingenious scientists have used human brain cells to develop a model “microbrain” that can be used to study tumors and have also come up with artificial skin and bone marrow. Instead of killing animals, we can now test irritancy on egg membranes, produce vaccines from cell cultures, and perform pregnancy tests using blood samples. As Gordon Baxter, cofounder of Pharmagene Laboratories, a company that uses only human tissue and computers to develop and test its drugs, says, “If you have information on human genes, what’s the point of going back to animals?”

Yes...I posted an article previously(up above) that talks about theobromine.

      http://www.essortment.com/all/dogschocolate_rcbr.htm

Dogs and puppies do not have the ability as we humans do to digest a simple chemical found in chocolate called "THEOBROMINE". When theobromine is ingested by an animal it affects are horrific on the central nervous system and the cardiovascular system. This effect of the chemical has a very harsh effect on the animal’s body causing severe trauma and oftentimes death.
