Sound Off Tuesday: Kill the oil covered birds or save them?

Pelicans struggle to free themselves from oil that's thick as tar. Others stretch out useless wings, feathers dripping with crude. Dead birds and dolphins wash ashore, coated in the sludge.

Scenes like this are playing out along miles of shoreline, nearly seven weeks after a BP rig exploded and the wellhead a mile below the surface began belching millions of gallon of oil.

Now a German scientist has stirred up controversy by saying it's better to kill the oily birds rather than wash them and save them.

Researchers say birds that have survived oil spills only have a 1% chance of survival.

Do you agree? Should the birds be killed? Or should they be saved?

    • I wonder if anyone would ask this question if these where humans. The images are so sickening, many of the birds where alive and couldn't move because they where coated with the thickened oil.

    • I find it atrocious and disgraceful that anyone should even ask!

Maybe this barbarian "German scientist" should come visit the Gulf Coast and take a swim in the toxic sludge for a while... unless he is a sociopath, I imagine his opinion would favor at least TRYING. WE did this to them...

THEM, the MILLIONS of innocent creatures that are going to suffer and die painful deaths. Of course we should try to save them!

We should also bear witness to the death and destruction that our addiction to oil causing. The use of fossil fuels is costing us and every being we share our planet with, EVERYTHING.
