"We Don't Need This on Camera": BP's Crappy 'Paper Towel' Cleanup Job

On the way, we beached ourselves on an uninhabited spit near Grand Isle State Park. It was completely covered in oil, and there were no cleanup crews in sight.
After a while, a Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries employee trailing half a dozen big & tall men behind her appeared. She flagged us down and told us nobody should be walking on that beach because it was a wildlife reserve. Which, considering the amount of oil (massive) and level of cleanup taking place (none), was pretty alarming. Plus, as a big guy next to her wearing a shirt from ES&H, the main cleanup contractor here, said, "We don't need this on camera." Which is why BP's contractors have their workers on a gag order: because sometimes they say stupid shit like that.
We paddled on and pulled up on Grande Terre, where the oil stretched as far as we could see in deep dark pools. We encountered a cleanup crew supervisor gunning around on his ATV, who said there were all of 30 workers on the whole island, which he said is five miles long. For the hour we walked around, only three of them were working anyway, while the rest sat in the shade. And the work consisted of somewhat haphazardly laying down paper towels.
That was about all we could take, what with a heat index of 105 and the rowing we had to do back to Grand Isle and I was already getting a little woozy. At least I kept my wits enough about me to remember to keep my mouth closed when waves splashed water thick with oil into my face. I suppose the 60 or so dolphins swimming the pass with us don't have that option; things got a little (more) depressing in the kayak when we saw that they were blowing it out through their holes. They'd probably like to take the double scrubbing-down with dishwashing liquid we took when we got home, too.

Cleaning up this oil disaster is a huge lie. It will never be cleaned up. Obama is either completely in their pockets as a front man, or he is completely naive.

Jesus christ, could they be any more insulting?! They are doing NOTHING. I swear, I had better see some jail time when this ordeal is over. It's time we made an example of these soulless corporations.

I love that BP is literally more concerned with their public image than the oil spill. It was cliche at first to say that but it really is true now.
They could give a damn about the oil, as long as it's not on camera and their name isn't being tarnished by the people they hire to cleanup the spill then they could really care less.

It pisses me off that one of the biggest, if not the biggest concerns being reported is the effects this will have on the economy. I undestand the importance of tourism but the main issue here is what's happening to our planet. Economy means nothing if our resources are too polluted to use

You know, it isn’t even about deportation. What really pisses me off is BP’s lack of concern for the planet and its inhabitants. BP and other corporations like it act as if we have a multitude of planets to move to if we kill this one. Earth isn’t like a house you can just hire some contractors to refurbish and then you’re good to go. Once we kill our home, that’s it, we’re dunskies. All the money in the world isn’t going to save you at that point. But I’m sure their mindset, like the mindset of others like them, is that they’ll be long gone once that happens so who cares. Who needs imaginary monsters when you have humans?

I think I'm gonna go on a sniper rampage against the BP executives. So this is their "Massive Clean-Up Effort" that their commercials advertise. FUUUCK! I've had enough. Someone needs to shut down BP, and fucking deport their asses to Pluto!

i mean they can cover living creatures in oil, can't we cover them in lead? It's less toxic to the environment.

So hard to watch this, but that is becoming the norm here in the world today. I am certain no one want to live in a country with this much destruction and death lurking around every turn.
I am also posting a video that tells what those who go and try to work have experienced.

I still cannot believe no one has gone to jail for ruining the shores on the Gulf. Take the CEOs of these companies and make examples of them, if you make shoddy work, you will pay dearly.

When used properly those oil towls work wonders. That however is not doing it properly. Those towels only soak up the oil nothing else. but thats not the way to do it.

This can't possibly be serious.
If we're gonna do shit like this, why not take it one step further and put a rug over it? Everyone knows that once you put a mess under a rug it's gone.

This would be the time to show that people really cared and demand an ACTUAL clean up crew. There should be no lolly gagging this is very importaint and all we can do is sit in the shade and lay paper towels down? how stupid and lazy can u be? I'm udderly disgusted at this article.

Bobby Jindal was ready day one to put up barrier reefs to stop the flow of oil onto Louisiana's beachs, the feds waited one month to answer his request to do so and that was only after, in desperation, he went public. The feds then responded to save face...
