The farce that is the war in Afghanistan is coming apart at the seams. General Stanley McChrystal’s sharp comments about Obama, Biden, and the administration published by Rolling Stone are not so much about disrespect, as the script-reading corporate media talking heads would have it, but rather about a policy in disarray in Afghanistan.

Obama the wunderbar teleprompter reader (and little else) is instructed to push the completely untenable prospect that the United States can win the so-called war in Afghanistan, a country often referred to as the graveyard of empires.

the US can win in Afghanistan but not by the way they are running the war. we've done more in 10 years with 1000 casualties than the russians did with 50,000 dead.
the majority of the Afghans would support the US if they saw some commitment. the damn taliban are NOT popular there, except in a couple of provinces.
but do we have the will to win it?
can we afford to?very different questions

nice. it won't be anything like that, my friend. but let's be realistic, what is a victory? we dont have to set up a first world nation with a fully democratic government. a government that is powerful enough to defend itself from the Taliban would do.
it sure seems that Afghanistan was doing much better under Muhammad Zahir Shah than under the Taliban. I don't think a nation like Afghanistan will succeed with democratic rule.
but we really can't afford to just leave. that would give a victory to the islamist terrorists andthey would simply take over yet again, and would have a nation set up for training and preparation of terror attacks.
we need to get the hell out of Iraq and focus on fixing Afghanistan once and for all. perhaps I'm overly idealistic, but I believe it can be done. what is difficult is not automatically impossible
