i think a caisson a 1000 feet on a side is a good idea. it's walls could be sunk into the sediment around the blowout by it's great weight.

the weight of the ocean at 5000 feet isn't enough to stop the flow. i don't know what the "existing structure" is, i thought the blowout was from a sediment layer around the well. what is needed if there isn't a well head is a weight greater than the pressure. a giant kludge of steel and concrete would work but it may take too long to build.

well actually a massive concrete fixture could be made in time if it was a priority... We are able to build anything in these days, dont think this problem can not be solved in an instant. royulery

Lets get these ideas into the right hands so they can go into effect!

I'm all for any and all realistic solutions being considered, but I think the inventor and the poster may grossly underestimate the pressure of the flow.
Also, is he serious? (I'm not joking... transformation? really?)

Yes, this is a very serious situation! The pressure will be one of the main concerns, but that being said the valves would not have to be shut off.. Barges could be lined up to transport the oil. The "Transformation is very serious political_junkie. Whats ur idea????

Well, those methods can be used also! But we need something right now... Clean up is one issue & containing the oil is another. WE must step up and take action.
