HIV is a very tricky virus to overcome because of its insane mutation rate. You can blame reverse transcriptase for this, among other things. Needless to say I don't have much long term hope for this, but it may mean hope for a few. Using 'cure' in the title was a poor word choice. This potential vaccine will not work on 17 of the strains, and should the vaccine become commercial, you can expect that number to increase.

Believe me, I know I'm an asshole for saying this but:
Survival of the fittest.
Disease is one way for mother nature to keep our population in check, however, we keep on finding more and more cures for various diseases, increasing the human population and increasing the strain we put on this Earth to live up to our increasing needs. Disease used to be Humans limiting factor, along with war and dying relatively young. These are no longer issues, and humanities population grows more and more everyday. This discovery is great... but I have a very hard time deciding if this is a good thing or a bad thing in the long run.Please forgive me for being so insensitive.
