Sex education teacher admits to double life as porn star

A fully-clothed Benedict Garrett, who has been working as a porn star
A high school sex education teacher has admitted moonlighting - as a porn star.
Benedict Garrett had been outed as a stripper after pupils stumbled upon a website promoting his services as 'Johnny Anglais'.
But now it has emerged that on top of his stripping routines, he also films sex scenes for titles such as European Honeyz 4.
And he admits he doesn't always use protection when performing for the camera - despite his role promoting safe sex to teenagers.
Mr Garrett, 30, who has been suspended as a department head by school chiefs, told The Sun: 'I'm not ashamed of what I've done.
'It is something I do in my personal life that doesn't go against anything I teach the kids.
'There are many more immoral ways to earn money than romping in front of the camera.
'Lawyers defend paedophiles, bankers raise money using questionable means and large corporations often put finances ahead of the government.'
He added that he doesn't use condoms when performing because he believes the risk of catching anything from a fellow porn star is 'minute'.

    • What crime did he commit? None, it's just a moral thing. I don't see a problem with this... Although he'll probably be forced to resign because it won't be the same especially since not many will be able to get past it. It'll probably be too distracting for teens... or he'll get fired because people are stupid.

    • There are a few things that I think should be clarified before this guy is either fired or keeps his job as a teacher.

      1) Did he teach anything that was extremely controversial or inappropriate? And I don't mean did he teach kids about safe sex when he should've been teaching them abstinence, I mean was he openly encouraging orgies or crap like that.

      2) Were there any strong complaints about him as a teacher from the students or their parents before people found out that he was/is a porn star?

      3) Did he try, as an immoral porn star, to solicit sexual actions from any of his students?

First off, I have yet to have any kids. It has something to do with not wanting them at this point in my life. Second, if a teacher managed to keep their second life separate from their primary life for that long and no one was the wiser, I don't think I'd have a problem with it. Just because people suddenly are aware that the person is a porn star they does not mean that the person is going to change. If the guy's still allowed to teach, he's probably going to be the same teacher that he was before.

This is high school we're talking about. Not middle school or earlier. Yes, kids are impressionable, but not so much by teachers as you might think. If he hasn't tried to get kids into porn before his secret identity was known, he's most likely not going to now that it is. Point in case, I had teachers who were hunters and would go out hunting a few times each season. I can't think of any student who was impressed enough by that or was left with a great enough impression to pick up hunting because of it. Then again, a part of the problem is that sex is a taboo subject, and therefor is a lot more interesting. Perhaps we should deal with our issues about being such a frigid society so that the high schoolers won't feel so influenced by something that is so taboo.

Sexual experience is only a small part of our life yet for hight school students sexuality and self identity are extremely important. There is no comparison between a teacher who likes to hunt and a "hot" teacher who managed to be a porn star. There is no doubt in my mind the second will leave strong and lasting impression.

The reason why there is no comparison is because one is a cultural taboo and the other is not. Guess which is the taboo in our culture, sex or hunting? The sad fact that all teenagers go through puberty and are hyper-sexually charged really isn't that big of an issue, if it was then damn near every kid would be seeing things online and trying them just to satisfy their own lust.

No my children do not watch porn on the internet. That is exactly my point; "teaching" provided by the porn star teacher can not be censored. Allowing porn star's "values" become "approved by school" values would be another disservice to our children best interest.

And you have the right to disagree. Two questions though. One, roughly how old are your children? Two, how do you know that the teacher who is a porn star is teaching porn star values in the class. There are science teachers who are religious, does that mean we should fire the teachers because they might teach the kids that creationism is a scientifically legitimate theory?

I'll assume that you're comment on my manners is in reference to my asking how old the children are. Asking how old her children are is not asking how old the woman is. Make sure you understand what you are writing about before you comment on how I'm insulting people by asking for personal information that is not relevant tot he discussion.

The point in case, if they're small children then it's kind of a no brainer that they've never looked up internet porn. If they are male and mid to late teenagers, then it's highly unlikely that they have not seen it.

So, it's impossible for a guy who works in porn to not teach a basic sex ed class that informs kids of the basic mechanics, how people get pregnant, and what birth control is because his moral values that allow him to work in the porn industry will corrupt our children, even though to our knowledge this guy has been in porn and has not managed to infect any of the kids he teaches with his pornographic morals or ideology?

So I don't know that he hasn't and you don't know that he has. So innocent until proven guilty applies, or it doesn't? The point of something being to our knowledge is that it could have happened, but if it did it hasn't come up yet and it is still quite possible and/or likely that it has not. Now I know from the news that there have been quite a few teachers who have no pornographic background who have been having affairs with students, but I don't know of too many people in professional porn who make it a habit to have sex with underaged youth. Underaged youth varies from nation to nation as the minimum age for consent seems to be different in other countries. And unless I am mistaken, it is not legal in this nation to view pornographic material of what our nation considers a minor.

Seriously, where is the problem? Is he teaching an extra racy sex ed class that the school did not endorse? Is he telling kids that it's alright to sleep with multiple people and to be promiscuous? What is he doing inside of the classroom that has you freaked out about this? It's almost akin to a person who is homophobic preaching that we should remove a teacher from the rosters because he/she is a homosexual and might infect the kids with their homosexual-ness. I've actually met porn actors before. If someone doesn't tell you that the person acts in porn, it's really not easy to tell that they do act in porn. And after you find out a person acts in porn, you usually don't see or notice anything about their behavior that you didn't notice before. They're the same person that they were before.

It is true that any teacher may have values that are not appropriate for teaching at school. The casual "there is nothing wrong with it" attitude is concern many parents would have with a porn star for a teacher.

Yes his actions are telling kids that it is ok as you put it "to sleep with multiple people and be promiscuous". The fact that kids know their teacher is a porn star sends a strong silent message.

It's likely that it is only going to send that message to kids who already think that in the first place.

As far as with the, "there's nothing wrong with it," attitude, there is nothing wrong with a career in pornography. It's a job, it pays the bills, and if someone enjoys it all the more power to them. Personally, I think it makes sense. A physics teacher can moonlight as an engineer, and english teacher can moonlight as an author, a coach can moonlight as a player of a sport, but a sex ed teacher can't moonlight as a porn star?

We know what downsides there could be to this kind of matchup, so what are some of the potential benefits? Could he be more knowledgable about contraceptives? Could he be more informative about STD's? I'm certain that at the very least he could bring up the fact that pornography is a fantasy, not how sex really works, and therefor relying on it for any informative purposes is completely idiotic.

    • Fire him.

You can't have a person in the classroom teaching Sex Ed, and trying to communicate the importance of safe sex, who regularly engages in frequent, unprotected casusal sexual encounters.

I can just imagine all the not-so-subtle inuendo the guy probably uses in his class as well.

As a parent, I'd demand they fire him. I don't personaly judge him as an individual for his porn exploits but I dont' want him around kids. They need more wholesome role models and teachers until after they leave home and enter "the real world".

The first question you should be asking yourself is where were these kids parents while they were surfing for porn to find this guy. There was no promotion of his private life by him to his students. You even went so far as to assume he filled his classes with innuendos when you clear have no idea what his classes where actually filled with.

Why do we, as a society, obsess with the private sexual lives of people around us. Until there is some evidence of abuse involving this man then let him have his job. The parents of these kids are the ones you should be focusing you ranger at.

Absolutely I suspect that a porn start in a position teaching sex ed will fill his class with "innuendo", I have NO problem making that assumption.

I've personally seen sex ed teachers making these kinds of innuendo--and they weren't porn stars.

It's none of my business to know "where the parents were", that's between them and their kids. The FACT is that they DID discover who he was, and it is now widely known.

I wouldnt' even doubt there are some girls and boys now asking him private questions about how to get into the industry. I remember a student (a senior) once celebrating that she had been approached to dance nude to pay for her college after she had gone to Florida University to tour the school, something she broadcast publicly in the classroom.

Why am I to think this guy is not possibly "scouting for talent" among the girls?

You assume him to be innocent of all wrong doing, I don't assume he has done anything wrong but it's NOT illogical to be concerned, and his mere presence in the classroom will now be risky.

ESPECIALLY since we know he is supposed to be teaching the proper use of condoms and here he is making stupid STUPID excuses for the fact he does not use them as he screws other porn stars, even though reports over the past years has shown an increase in AIDS among those very same stars.

Why is his profession in any way not "wholesome"?

Let's say that there was a teacher who moonlights as an actor in B-movie horror flicks.
Movies where he plays a serial killer chopping up teenagers in a summer camp, or other crap like that.

      Would that be acceptable?

He's not a murderer, he's just an actor.

Porn is a form of entertainment; entertainment for adults, not for kids, and he is an adult.

While I don't like his attitude about not using condoms, the fact that he does porn is irrelevant.

Your whole analysis is based on the antiquated notion that sex is something evil, nasty, dirty and disgusting.

So what that he does porn, so what if his students want to get into the industry when they are adults, so what if some girl wants to pole dance to earn her tuition.

The only thing that makes any of this wrong is the puritanical notion that it's wrong.

(I will concede the point on the condom issue- the guy is stupid for not using condoms.)

He is an idiot, as are you for defending him, for saying that he doesn't really need to use a condom because he's fucking other "professionals", who in turn are fucking other profesionals...and amateurs.

AIDS instances began to increase among California porn models in the past years exactly because they were not taking precautions. Go google it, genius.

that's Texas. In Denver the average salary is MUCH higher, those with masters and doctorates are in the upper 70s to 80s with experience of course.

I was a teacher once too, started in P'Cola Fl for $22,000 per year.

I would never have turned to porn to make some extra bucks.

Cali teachers are also paid MUCH more than you Texas teachers. And there is nothing wrong with professionals earning more than teachers. they actually work a full year. My wife is a teacher with 3 months a year vacation. That's 1/4 of the year off, dude. Let's compensate that by adding the 25% of $60,000 to the salary to get $75,000. And that's a TEXAS salary. Teaching salaries elsewhere are even higher.

That's an average wage for a technical job such as Business Analyst, QA engineer, software development engineer, project manager, etc. with years of experience and post-grad degrees/certifications. So cry me a fucking river.

And the skillset for an engineer is MUCH higher than a bullshit English teacher, and the contribution to society is greater too.

Far too many people are teaching because of the vacation time and so they can coast through college and get psych or english degrees because math/science is just too damn hard for them.

      http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2010/03/state-regulators-agree-to-explore-...

State regulators voted Thursday to establish a committee to explore the possibility of requiring porn industry performers to use condoms and to take other safety measures.

The six-member California Division of Occupational Safety and Health standards board voted unanimously on the advice of staff to create an advisory committee to report back on whether to change state law to require safe-sex protections for adult-film actors and actresses.

The decision was greeted with applause from the crowd of about 40 people, including current and former adult-film performers, at Costa Mesa City Hall.

Board member Guy Prescott, director of safety for Operating Engineers Local Union No. 3, said he had planned to vote against the measure but changed his mind after hearing from performers and other members of the industry.

“The question is the particular acts and exposures to the workers and what are we doing to prevent that,” said board member Jonathan Frisch, principal risk manager at PG&E Corp. "I found it extremely interesting to hear from members of the industry here this morning. It’s going to be very, very important that we do have them at the table.”

The board, appointed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, had up to six months to act on a Dec. 17, 2009 petition filed by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation to change state law and require mandatory condom use for adult-film workers and more stringent safety training and testing for sexually transmitted diseases.

“We believe the state of California has a responsibility to regulate these workplaces as they do every other workplace,” AIDS Healthcare Foundation President Michael Weinstein told the board.

The foundation has been pushing regulators and porn industry leaders to better safeguard the health of adult-film performers since an HIV outbreak among porn performers in the San Fernando Valley in 2004.

More than a dozen speakers addressed the board before the vote, including Los Angeles County public health experts and several current and former adult-film workers.

Dr. Robert Kim-Farley, director of communicable disease control and prevention at the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, recommended mandatory condom use and increased, free STD screening for adult-film performers.

Rates of STDs such as chlamydia and gonorrhea are seven times higher in the adult-film industry than in the general population, he said, and up to a quarter of performers are diagnosed with an STD in a given year.

Former porn actor Darren James, who tested HIV-positive during a 2004 outbreak, called current industry STD testing practices a security blanket that actors mistakenly believe protects them from infection.

“You think you’re safe but you’re not; in between scenes, you don’t know what other actors are doing,” James told the board.
