How did Alexis de Tocqueville put it? Something like, "the American republic will endure until the congress discovers that it can bribe the people with the peoples' money."
While I really hate what the banks and other corporate crooks have done to the U.S. economy. Anything put out by this congress comes off more as just buying peoples' votes.

The two are,for the worst, linked in crime together! The elite run the show and their puppets in congress and every so called "elected" office,,who couldn't get elected without them, have and are, stomping on the Constitution, robbing us our our rights, while they steal for themselves every penny that belongs to us,every resource, and control every aspect of our lives! You only hear what they want you to hear, lulling the people to feel "safe" and for the most part selfish and greedy, only caring about them! We have become a nation of greed instead a nation of people, as we once were,to help and aid every American in need! the people knowingly keep us divided by phony politics so that we can't join together and throw these bums out and their masters with them! After the Civil War we allowed the elite, those of means,in the name of progress, and to move this nation forward, access to those who we elected and this partnership began! Oh sure there was some corruption before, but not on the grand scale that followed the Civil War! It has now progressed to the point where it is they, the elite, who run this country, whose only interests are profit at all costs, which includes a process where Corporatism replaces Democracy,so that the elite can operate without control or oversight, without regard for any of us in any way! BE SELFISH! BE GREEDY! ONLY CARE ABOUT YOU! THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT THE ELITE WANTS! DON"T QUESTION! OBEY! CORPORATISM IS ALREADY HERE! Soon they will no longer have to operate within reason, and it's coming sooner then you might think, unless all the people come together! All the tags don't matter! We are all Americans! We must become ONE! Why is it that you all don't see that? Right, left, libertarian, tea party, etc., it is all the crap they have brainwashed us with for generations! WE ARE ALL AMERICANS! Isn't that fact the most important? It used to mean something! We need to take this nation back to where it means something again! Knock knock! wake up! it's almost too late, and the New World Order will so become fact, based on Corporatism, where we will be nothing but slaves! Where only profit and greed are worshiped, the very false gods which have brought us to this place, where individual rights will no longer exist, and freedom becomes part of the past forever!

Giving out free money in an election year. How original. Obama finally achieved one of his campaign promises. That's about as transparent as it gets. If he would spend half as much time on getting us jobs as he did on getting checks for people without jobs, he wouldn't have to worry about paying unemployment benefits. I guess that makes too much sense.

I would be all for extending unemployment if I didn't know so many people who are not even looking for a job as long as they can draw that unemployment check (some folks I know have been drawing for two years now.) It's like free money to many folks, especially folks who have a spouse with a decent job. The average check is $325.00 a week. Folks would rather get this money for doing nothing than get a similar amout for working.
I'd also like to know how we plan on paying for this extention, besides just cranking up the old money machine and adding another who-knows-how-many-more billions to the deficit that my grandchildren will be trying to pay off.

I know people that have paid into this fund for their entire lives and have yet to use it. Literally thousands and thousands of dollars paid. Now that they need some help and unemployment is far from adequate and in this current economy many can't find jobs. Many of those jobs no longer exist.

"a similar amout for working"
first, way to spell-check dumas... second, people get less money under unemployment, guess you've never been there, maybe there's the reason that your such a frack-ing dimwit
why do you concern yourself over relatively trivial amounts of money (relatively, as compared to the total debt), at least it serves to assist those who can't find jobs... what's the latest figure--that 3.5 is searching for every 1 job available? don't forget that those figures are considerably downsized, so it's worse than that, there is much more demand for jobs than the amount of jobs available. pitiless ass

Oh, so sorry for my typo, O GREAT ONE. I'm sure you've never had a typo. If you can't find anything else to complain about you can always try ridicule. It makes you seem so much more intelligent.....
One of the reasons our debt is so high is that people like you call every amount "trivial compared to the debt". This extension will add 34 BILLION dollars to the debt, which, where I come from is not trivial. Well, yeah, maybe compared to our new 1.47 TRILLION DOLLAR DEFICIT it IS trivial but, hey, we gotta start somewhere. When trying to save money in my house I start with pennies.
I'm not against unemployment insurance per se, but some folks have been drawing unemployment now for a couple years. I personally know several people who have no intention of looking for a job as long as their wife (or husband) is working and they can draw free money and stay home. They have learned they can live on a lot less, and unemployment, and have no intention of giving up that "free" money. Since I myself know so many it makes me certain that there must be millions who are doing the same thing. I have a hard time continuing this, especially without knowing how it will be paid for
And I won't call you an ignorant ass. I'll just call you a bleeding heart leftie. :)

Bull. Check this out, from a government web site. People don't pay A PENNY into this fund. It's paid for by their employers.... (FUTA stands for Annual Federal Unemployment Tax)
http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/international/article/0,,id=131640,00.html
"U.S. Citizens And Resident Aliens Employed Abroad - FUTA
Employers pay Federal Unemployment Tax and file Form 940, Employer's Annual Federal Unemployment (FUTA) Tax Return. Only employers pay this tax. It is not deducted from the employee's wages. For more information, refer to the instructions for Form 940 (PDF), and to Publication 15, Circular E, Employer’s Tax Guide."If you know folks who have paid " Literally thousands and thousands of dollars " they need to ask for a refund. And the businesses who actually PAID their unemployment taxes probably can't help that the jobs are no longer there.

No, I do not believe everyone drawing unemployment is a freeloader. But I will bet there are more freeloaders than folks who are not. WHY would anyone accept a job pumping gas in the heat for less than he can make drawing unemployment? Folks tend to become accustomed to things like 'free' money. And if 'the little woman' has a job.........

Can you imagine if this attitude of the right wing was present on the battlefield? They would see a fellow Marine pinned down, drawing fire with his cover being blown away and they would say ..." Well he should have taken better cover, if I fire my weapon to help him, then I will have fewer rounds of ammunition for myself...screw him!"....Jeez, what ever happened to the idea that we're all Americans? When did we lose that sense of all being in the same boat?..The right always speak of patriotism, until it calls on them to make some sacrifice for their country or their fellow citizens, at that point all bets are off and they just get caught up in their own selfish pursuits of ever greater wealth and insulation from any commonly shared sacrifice....they truly disgust me.

No American should go homeless or hungry due to the excesses of the rich elite and their puppets in Washington! If this fails to pass over 2 million people, counting will suffer these fates through no fault of their own! Am so tired of the selfishness and greed I see in our country today! Every single republican should be arrested, tried, convicted and shot for crimes against the people! There needs to be a march on the Capital by every last American effected by the failure of the selfish and greedy to pass this bill, bet it would pass then!

If they don't pass it, I hope the GOP are prepared for the day of reckoning that will surely visit them. People are not stupid, they know who their representatives are and how they are voting. I am tired of paying for wars when Americans are suffering, and I don't give a damn how they justify it..they choose to put us in the wars we are in, and they choose to turn their backs on the victims of their own pandering to Bush.

The problem is that many people are stupid and many will see it as Obama's fault for not being able to solve these problems. If he could pass bills by himself without any involvement from the political naysayers then he could and would solve this problem or at least dye trying. In this upcoming election you will see the stupidity begin to emerge and in 2012, the full impact of their stupidity will astound you.

Well, I agree there is no shortage of stupid, but people have this inexplicable habit of paying closer attention after they've stepped in a hole or two in the pavement...we are capable of learning, and in my opinion the real stupid lies with the GOP, who continue to believe that people are never going to figure out what's really going on...in spite of the valiant efforts of Fox News and Rush Bimbaugh.
Losing your loved ones in the WTC, only to find out that your president deliberately lied and led the nation on a wild goose chase to find those responsible is a great eye opener.
Losing your child in a senseless war is a great eye opener.
Losing your home and then watching your tax dollars go to bail out the banks who helped do this to you is a great eye opener.
Losing your job and then finding the goods you used to manufacture on the same store shelves, but now made in China is a great eye opener.
Losing your retirement savings to feckless federally sanctioned gamblers, only to have the government talk about taking your social security too is a great eye opener.
Losing your unemployment benefits, but watching the politicians who voted not to support you vote themselves in another pay raise is a great eye opener.
Losing your livelihood and the beauty of your environment only to see coal and oil companies grow obscenely wealthy on the devastation of all you hold dear is a great eyeopener.the list goes on and on...the cards are stacked in favor of the people waking up, soon.

It's also a funny thing how Obama gets crap for not fixing everything in two years (not even). No one gives a thought to how bad we'd be doing if that broken down old man would have won! Unfortunately, if Obama looses I personally think underlining racism will have a lot to do with it.
It will be a shame if that happens. He truly cares about people who struggle, that's what Health Care reform is about but no one wants that to be meaningful either because that messes with the status quo.

I agree with you totally on the points you bring up but the problem is that the GOP has perfected the art of throwing shit on the wall. There is just enough of it that sticks that the undereducated people that don't check the facts or listen to anything more than the current headlines. They are easily beguiled into thinking the same direction that the wind blows on any particular day.
When the election times near, there will be all kinds of inflammatory bullshit that will be launched at Obama and his administration. They will turn anything and everything that he has done, not done or tried to do against him. The truth will be twisted and mixed with lies. This will be the GOP's weapons of choice once again.
Just look at how things are being twisted every day. Obama started both wars, he didn't fix the BP oil leak, he caused the economy to fail and hasn't fixed it, he bailed all of the banks out with 750 billion dollars, he put America into a 1.5 trillion deficit, he is a Natzi, no birth certificate, born a Muslim, his real name is Hussein, he hasn't done anything and yet he has destroyed America with all that he has done, and America is now a socialist country. I am sure this list goes on and on but so many stupid people buy into this shit. They aren't capable of using their own eyes, ears and brains to figure out what the truth is on their own.
The people that don't follow the issues intelligently and attentively will fall prey to these twisted lies and they will vote out of the fear stirred up by the Republicans. There are so many people that don't know or understand how laws and bills are passed. Somehow they never got it or retained it when they went through school. This makes them dangerous and usable.
This is not a secret but the GOP will use it to their advantage and the Democrats will not. Look at how the John Kerry "steamboat" fiasco went and how the vote in Florida turned out for Al Gore. It is called dirty politics. The stupid, gullible, and uneducated people make it all possible. America has just enough of them along with the die hard Republicans to make what I predict for 2012 to happen.
If I am wrong, I will jump for joy and you will probably be able to hear me shout with excitement no matter where you live. I have faith in the American public to repeat history as they have always done. They vote with their emotions and not with their brains.

Agreed! The thing with McCain is this. If he had won, I seriously believe he would have died by now. It seems that every person who has ever become President has aged rather quickly. McCain is fairly ancient and I think the stress and pressure would have taken its toll and he would either be quite sick or have died.
This would have put looney tunes at the helm and her answer to any conflict is shoot first and then look at Russia from her house. Her sense of foreign policy and dealing with anything of National or International significance is frightening. We would have found ourselves by now to most likely be at war with many Countrys. She is as big of an idiot as George W Bush but far more aggressive and a bit better spoken. This makes her far more dangerous than Bush ever dreamt of being.
P.S. I don't think she will win in 2012 but she is a media whore and she will make her attempt at running.

I can't speak to if he is a lunatic or not,but I will say that he won't be reelected, not because of his skin color, but rather for the reason that he sucks as president! You are not a racist if you speak out against any elected official, you are a citizen exercising free speech and any elected official must be open to this if they screw up and Obama, and his advisors, have screwed up royally!

We followed the war mongering, Village Idiot as we watched the Constitution erode and many of our people's careers and lively hoods evaporate. Look where that got us. Two years in and Obama hasn't been able to erase the previous eight years of "Tom foolery" committed by Curious George. I guess the "S" on his chest needs to be a bit bigger or perhaps give him a bit more time or perhaps a little bit more bi-partisanship from the Republicans.
Think about it. Obama hasn't really done or tried to do anything that some previous Presidents have tried to do so why such an outroar?
The outcry to get our "Country back" speaks volumes. I haven't noticed that our Country has picked up and moved anywhere nor has it been taken over by anyone so from where would we take it back from? The Black Man? If Obama was white, they would just rant and rave about political differences as previously done throughout our Countries political history. This is the first time they have ever felt the compelled to take it back.

And we're continuing on along the same path, aren't we. Obama is as much Bush as Bush is. And where are all the changes he promised? Where's the transparency he promised? WHEN is the last time you went online and had plenty of time to peruse a bill that's been presented? Hell, he demands the passage of his thousands-of-pages bills before even those VOTING on them have read them, much less you or me as he promised. He's as big of liar as anyone who's been there, but he convinced us he's different.
Well, in some areas he IS different, in that he continually apologizes to other nations for us, he bows to them, he doesn't show any respect for our flag or show in any way that he's one of us. He tries to distance himself from America. He doesn't know OR care what our Constitution says, just that he wants to expand the Nanny state.

Even more so because if you take a good look at his background you'll see he has little concern for our Constitution but would love, and is directing us toward, a Nanny state.
And here's your fearless leader at the Memorial Service at Fort Hood. I see LOTS of respect for our flag, our fallen troops, our country. Too bad none of it's from our President.

The current condition of the economy and the inability to find a job is overwhelming. There are many people that are being caught in this situation. This is why the politicians need to quit fighting and bickering so much about idiotic political issues and personal career agendas. They need to quit focusing on their political positioning of their career placements and start representing the people's needs.
This bill needs to be adequately addressed and quickly. All of the political agendas and animosities need to be set aside until the people of this nation are taken care of. Then the sandbox mentality can resume.
