I wonder if Robert Mugabe is sitting at home watching Big Love right now. After all, the president of Zimbabwe just declared his support for polygamous relationships, citing that the bible includes men with multiple wives and thus it must be right. Yes, because the bible was created yesterday and therefore needs no adaptation to reflect life in 2010.
“Our Constitution allows polygamy," Mugabe says. "We will not force people into monogamous marriages. It’s there even in the bible — Solomon was not only given wealth but many wives."
But let's move on from all of this bible talk, because there's only so much my non-religious brain can handle before it erupts into tiny pieces of homosexual Canadian Jew. And you don't want that on your screen. So let's move on to Mugabe's other topic as of late: gays. Or, rather, dogs and pigs, as he likes to call us.
“Today, the Anglican Church condones marriages between men and the same for women. The Archbishop of Canterbury is blessing such marriages — that is similar to dog behavior," he says. “At some point, I realized that I was reprimanding blameless dogs and pigs, which are aware that marriage is for procreation. We say no to gays! We will not listen to those advocating the inclusion of their rights in the constitution."
The topic in question is in the news because of the new redrafting of Zimbabwe's constitution, which is currently taking place. The country outlaws homosexuality and makes any homosexual act a criminal offense. And apparently, gay porn is also an offense. Two employees of Gays and Lesbians of Zimbabwe, an activist group, are facing trial on charges of possession of gay pornography.
So let me get this straight. We can't hold hands with each other or even watch pornography, but you can marry as many ladies as your heart (aka: penis) contends? Perhaps it's time to retire your 86-year-old self, girlfriend. I'm not using my kennel right now ... perhaps you'd like to move on in.
