Should New York Representative Charles Rangel Resign Amidst New Ethics Violation Charges ?

A House panel said Thursday that its investigative subcommittee charged the Harlem Democrat with multiple ethics violations, and it will form an "adjudicatory subcommittee" to weigh the matter.
"I am pleased that, at long last, sunshine will pierce the cloud of serious allegations that have been raised against me in the media," Rangel said in a statement.
"I will be glad to respond to the allegations at such time as the Ethics Committee makes them public."
The charges - though not immediately specified - are a serious blow to the former Ways and Means chairman and an election-year headache for Democrats.
Rangel's critics say this could be the blow that forces him out of office. "I think he’ll have to resign," said Melanie Sloan, head of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, whose group has already called for Rangel's resignation.
"If he doesn’t, things could get ugly, Sloan said. "It’s like an indictment, and now he goes through a trial." The subcommittee, which includes no members from the investigative team, will meet next Thursday in an open "organizational meeting."
The group ultimately will "determine whether any counts in the statement of alleged violation have been proved by clear and convincing evidence and to make findings of fact."
Rangel has been under fire for nearly two years over his failure to report rental income, his fund-raising activities for a CUNY center named for him, and the use of four rent-controlled apartments.
He was forced to step down as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee earlier this year after the ethics panel found he took a pair of Caribbean trips that he should have known were sponsored by corporations, and therefore not allowed.

Harlem has had a long history in this country as the cultural epicenter for the transition from New Negro to Black Power. It seems the media and many in the public are still resentful against Harlem for what it represents with regard to freedom and its leadership intellectually, culturally and politically of the nation of of African American brothers fight for equality and reparations for what they lost and the fact that this country was modernized literally on their backs.
I pray that Rangel gets to clear his name and move forward as the strong leader he is to the Black Community.

Ever wonder why media is more liberal than conservative?? More than not very well educated and well read people see a much bigger picture of what reality is. A perfect example is university proffessors, among the best educated people in the United States they do see a bigger picture when they see social ills. Conservative university profs are the distinct minority on college campuses around the U.S. Now for congressman Rangel, its my belief he has seen his best days, he fell into the power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutley. I think the people of Harlem could do much, much better with a younger educated Black candidate to replace him. And I'd offer my support to any black candidate who wished to run against him as long as they are not republicans, black republicans make me ill. Talk about working against your own best interests.

I suppose you think a a district who's black population makes up 80 or 90 percent should be represented by awhite male? Not quite my freind. There is not proportional representation in the house or senate that reflects the population at large.
When you twist or insinuate what I write you really show ignorance, not that you are, thats not what I'm insinuating, but when people say what you just wrote its true - 1 year ago

why not, bill clinton did. he even has an office in harlem. and hey theres a black president in office who's representing a majority of whitey's. but either way it would benefit the constituents of that district to elect an honest politician if one can be had either d or r. black or white. so again it appears to be a case of selective racism

That's because most progressives don't sit around watching TV all day, and if they do, at least they change the channel every now and then.

"one fou[r]th the audience" would still impressive considering FOX corp. has media outlets in every part of the globe (in some plarts of the world they ARE the only outlet). not watching or reading anything distributed by FOX is like going throughout your life and never eating MacDonalds.
both of which are entirely possible, however, for people with the wherewithal to realize that both sell trash. cheap and easy, but trash all the same.

the left has abc, nbc, msnbc, cbs, cnn, and pbs, so with fox being the only television news source that leans to the right its almost fair and balanced. i wonder why they are the worlds news leader and the most popular news channel. either most americans are really fucked up or the ones that dont watch it are, hmmmmmmm.

hmmm, my but you're on to something there, congoboi. good work.
most americans aren't fucked up: they're lazy and willfully ignorant. FOX paints everything black and white (and very often wrong and/or malicious) so that people will simply accept it as fact without trying to find other sources (like, say...all those 'left' sources you listed off), as well as BBC news or internet, to back up the story. anything more complicated than that black and white is HORRIFYING and must be WRONG because it means you have to form opinions and think for yourself.
gasp, you should.
it's all psychology. FOX is fucking amazing at making sheeple. why should a baby start wanting to live on it's own or try real food when it could just be catered to and spoon fed mush the rest of it's life?
i never considered myself a liberal or a conservative or even a moderate. when you grow up you start to see things as they are; form YOUR OWN opinions; and listen to whatever news has the better track record of NOT LYING TO YOU.
just sayin.
