Chavez threatens to cut off oil to U.S.

This is only a mere distraction… once a year Hugo Chavez threatens to cut of oil to the United states, but that is equivalent to committing economic hara-kiri ( well it will be the last nail on the dead “Bolivarian” “21st century fossilized socialist” Venezuelan economy) to the U.S. Venezuela is the fifth oil supplier of its list, but to Venezuela the US is the most important client in supplying oil. He talks allot about the U.S. being an evil empire up to get him but under the table he sells oil to the U.S. at a cheaper price, this is just a distraction like the exhumationof Simon Bolivar ‘s remains and every other crazy thing he says every time he speaks, he wants to distract the venezuelan populus in order to win the parlamentary elections in september, but the energy crisis within the country, the state of insecurity, inflation at 31%, the whole pdval/pudrerval fiasco, the clear evidence that FARC-EP and ELN are well settled in venezuela since2002 and the possibility that Hezbolah has cells there among many things are playing agaisnts him…. .. as a megalomaniac narcicist he is always looking to be the center of attention In the world stage.

yeah right... we'll just make them another afganistan. idiot doesn't realize that it's too late, this "yankee empire" has already won, we own you! we own everything! and if you think otherwise we'll invade and make a territory out of your country... just as we've always done.

Chavez is not making things easier for himself. Colombia has found many FARC camps in Venezuelan territory and tons of evidence of the Venezuelan government's complicity and assistance to the groups. Now with Chavez threatening to cut off oil, a vital securitized commodity to the US, he is only going to bring more danger to himself.

In any case, war with Colombia would mean his downfall. The Venezuelan military is no match for the Colombian armed forces. Stopping trade completely and the resulting self imposed embargo will hurt Venezuela much more than it will hurt the United States.

If oil stops coming to the US, prices will go up here, but in Venezuela the economy will STOP. Chavez is walking a fine line, and with the dire economic situation in Venezuela, things are not getting easier.

To clarify the distinction between the political and the strategic, what I mean is the significance of a potential constraint on the chances of regime survival. China is the most exposed because power is most levered there on sound resource management.

And this is why China leads the world in investment in alternative energy.

I doubt that Venezuela are trying to run up the price of crude with this saber rattling. Supply constraints of that size are possible through direct control of over production above stated OPEC quotas.

Chavez is naive and therefore usually honest. It is the great peasant weakness to be truthful but still caught out in transparent fictions.

Also, oil is largely a political issue for the United States. For China and Russia, the reverse is true: domestic political vapidity contrasted with dire strategic consequences.

I really hope he does WE don't need his stinking oil. Hell we have so much of it we cover our beaches in it .

So if back Columbia in an attack on Venezuelan he will stop exporting oil to us?

Generally when a country is attacked they don't export goods to there attackers allies...
