The converted Beetle is no slow-poke either, able to reach speeds upwards of 45 miles per hour. As the car gets more time on the road, an onboard computer will gather performance data as well.
'I think any vehicle can be converted to electricity. It is so simple to get one I don't know why more people don't own one. It doesn't have to be a Bug, it can be any light weight vehicle: a Porsche, a Toyota or a Honda. It would be a great neighborhood or commuter vehicle and would save a fortune on gas"

I am all for this. The move to alternately powered cars must be a grassroots movement. I hope this father and son team keep it up.

You have to be realistic here... They take hours to charge, to fully charge a modern day electric car, around 6 - 8 hours. They have low range, 50-80 miles for most of them. There aren't enough places to charge them up. You'd be better off using LPG.

The average person doesn't even travel 50 miles in one day. Travel around then plug the car in at home while you are asleep. There's your 6-8 hours of charge time.

People may be forgetting where electricity comes from (for the most part) - It's not as green as people make it out to be ;)

No it's not, but it is more efficient both economically and environmentally to use electricity produced from fossil fuels than it is to use fossil fuels directly in a car. Besides, not all electricity comes from fossil fuels.

Now if he could put some lithium ion batteries in there he might get a hundred miles on a charge. What a genius. This kid is going to go far and hopefully get his college education fully paid through scholarships and grants.
