Mexican Drug Cartel Offers $1M Bounty for AZ Sheriff’s Head

Image
Omnomynous
A chilling audio tape with text, circulating by e-mail, has been reported that puts a million dollar price on conservative hero, Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s head. Is it a coincidence that this was reported on the same day that Arizona’s immigration law, SB 1070, became effective?

Though the SB 1070 law that has gone into effect is a gutted version of the real bill, yesterday was also the day that Governor Brewer filed an expedited appeal, vowing to fight all the way to the Supreme Court if necessary. Yesterday was also the day that busloads of imported protesters from California chained themselves outside Sheriff Arpaio’s jail.

…In the message, $1M reward is placed on Arpaio’s head, and for mafia cartel recruiting purposes, another $1K to join the cartel.

The information about the tape was provided by a man, frightened enough to request anonymity, who was disgusted when his wife showed him the tape and followed up by reporting it to the sheriff’s office. Death threats aren’t uncommon for law enforcement officers who battle the lawlessness of border states, woefully overwhelmed and understaffed, and Sheriff Joe has had more than a few. This threat is considered real and credible, especially because of its timing.

It is believed this message originated in Mexico. The tape provides an international phone number and investigators are trying to trace the text message. Ms. Allen from the Sheriff’s office is “sure he’s concerned… for his family more than anything else.”

    • I love the war on drugs, or should I say the war to get drugs to american consumers. If there was a true war the D.E.A. could probably shut down the production of cocaine in about a couple month's time. there are only a handful of cartel's that run the entire production and distrabution of all the cocaine in the world, how hard is it to find them, shut them down, procecute and jail them? they did it to Pablo Escobar.... or even act concerned and help Mexico get a grip on the cartel's and politician's fueling the trade.... this will never end, notch one up for the bad guys (the govt's of south and north america)

    • While Sheriff Joe likes SB 1070, it needs to be pointed out that in all other Arizona cities, Tucson, Flagstaff and Yuma the sheriffs oppose SB 1070. Enforcement will require more staff and require them to do what the federal patrols should be doing. Finally, it should be known that there have been more deportations under Obama and the Democratic congress.

Republicans when it comes to government talk, but they do not act.

    • More creditable and serious offenses are happening against the liberals. So why would this unsubstantiated report become more important?

Arizona Democratic Rep. Raul Grijalva, a vocal opponent of his state's controversial immigration law, has closed his district office in Yuma after a bullet was discovered inside, the Hill reports.

In a statement, Grijalva's office said one of the office windows had been shattered.

I don't know any Democrats in Arizona that support SB 1070. Ann Kirkpatrick says the whole thing is a waste of money on both sides, and that the effort should be spent on patrolling the border.

Firearms should not be used on the offices of our elected leaders. Firearms do kill. While I firmly disagree with the way the audio tapes are being used here, and consider it criminal, I have never heard a story in which an audio tape was used to kill.

Well, nice try. Arizona has no Democratic senators (McCain, Kyl). It is true that vast majority of Arizona citizens support change, whether it is SB 1070, or Democratic comprehensive immigration reform. I can understand why.

    • Everything changes once criminals from other countries start putting bounties on the heads of ANY of the elected government officials in the United States of America.

I take this as a declaration of war, if the Mexican government does not do something about this. There's nothing funny about this. I sent my son a care package when he was at Scottsdale Community College 5 years ago. The Maricopa Sheriffs Department intercepted the package, brought it to his dormitory and made him open it up in front of them. My son was frighten to death and I was furious. At the time my father was also an elected official in Arizona and he gave Arpaio a call as did I. I cursed him out over the phone because he was dead wrong for having this done. I can't stand the man, however I still do not condone the thought or actions of Americans or foreigners calling for his life by putting bounties on his head.

If we done something wrong, how could I have called the Sheriff up and cursed him out. Apaio apologized. He claimed that there was a major drug trafficking ring going on between Arizona and Atlanta, and his men were just doing their jobs.. If there was some wrong doing on my part, why would I have even bothered to print the story, you moron ?

    • While this sheriff arpaio methods must be questioned from the civil rights standpoint,he must be doing something right for the cartel to hate him with such passion,he must really be hutting the cartels profit margin, which is all they care about! A million to them is pocket change anyway! the sheriff doesn't look like Rambo, he's old and slow in combat count on that, and you can bet that every scumbag with a gun will try to take him out! Be interesting to see how this plays out,the one strange factor is this isn't about good and evil,oh no, this is about the lesser of evils, the Cartel vs.King of Facism, and unfortunately if Arpaio loses we all lose, drugs and the violence and crime that will follow, will come flooding in,along with Islamic Terrorists, and any other evil bent on taking out this country!

    • I want to make it clear I do not agree with everything Sheriff Arpaio does or stands for. I think his stand on the drug war is wrong and stopping people for jaywalking to ask for their papers is un-american I do like the way he treats criminals in his jail however.

I mean if you go to jail in my County you get a nice climate controlled environment with a fully stocked rec room. Color Cable TV, Books, Magazines, Board Games. Three home cooked meals a day that by most accounts is quite tasty.

You go to Sheriff Arpaio's jail and you are likely to get a tent in the desert with gruel 3 times a day. Which jail would you like to be a regular occupant of?

Unfortunately none of our jails do anything except ensure that the criminals will only commit another crime. Which is what the privately run prisons want to happen.

There are some countries in Europe, i think Sweden is one, with very humane jails and the rate of recidivism is much much lower.

American jails have one purpose, to dehumanize. Then everyone is appalled that they are worse when they come out of jail.

Yes - there are many corrupt police officers. Yes - something should be done about it. But the root of the problem starts with insuring them safety and sabotaging the power of the cartels, not threatening the officers with death. I feel ridiculous explaining this.

In fact I don't want a bunch of illegals here, simply because they make it harder for average Americans to make decent pay, why because illegals will work for less every time forcing all the poor people into virtual slavery.

Then you got idiots pushing the notion that "Americans Won't do that work" which is bullshit some of the hardest work done in this country is in West Virginia, where 90+% of that work is done by white people.

Prices for certain foods would see a huge increase, some of these foods are basic nutrition items. Which means that food stamps and other programs would cost the government more, which triggers a tax increase and higher food bills.

Nothing in the economy is isolated, and while I'm no expert, I have not yet seen an economic impact study that shows what ripple effects would result from farmers raising there pay to minimum wage.

Was watching a thing on CNN with that reporter working in the field with immigrants. The individual immigrants he was working with were supposedly being paid minimum wage. IF most farms were already paying minimum wage and we just switched over who is working for the farm what price increase (of course if they paid them a fair wage why bother them)? If they were paying them a "living wage" and it wasn't effecting American laborers I'd have no complaint. Then again most of them aren't paying minimum wage and won't if they don't have to, which is the problem.

Minimum wage is outrageous, and one person would have a hard time just supporting himself with that.

I think most of us wouldn't have a problem taxing the very upper crust to compensate for all the tax cuts they've had over the past 30-40 years anyway.

Screw Bill Gates, Screw Oprah, our definitions of "earn" are just a little different and people that rich really need to consider all the people going without so they can have that wealth. Yeah you can print more money but there are only so many resources, and it is not right for them to have (theoretically) enough money to buy everything.

    • I don't know. This is fishy. Clearly if the Mexican Drug cartel wanted Arpaio dead they wouldn't announce their intention to the world; it would make getting to him that much more difficult. Plus one has to assume they have their own hit men they would rely on to do the job efficiently rather than getting involved with a bunch of amateurs. Also an attack on a US sheriff would invite massive US law enforcement intervention at a time when they are already fighting the Mexican government.

I'm going to hazard a guess that when the source of the video is verified, it won't have come from the Mexican Drug Cartel.
