In a disgusting episode of the exact opposite of the Hippocratic Oath, hospital staff laughed and taunted Erin over being transgender. One nurse asked Erin's wife Amanda whether Erin "was a he or a she? Or a he-she?" Others referred to her as "it" and a "transvestite." And then Erin was told she could not be treated because of her "condition." No, not her medical condition, of which Erin didn't know what the problem was (hence the visit to the hospital), but her "transvestite condition."
Ball Memorial Hospital, whose Facebook page was flooded with messages after Erin posted about it, says it prides itself on "compassion," "respect" and "customer care/service." It does not have a policy including transgender people.

At least I can take solace knowing that this non-life-threatening situation revealed the prejudices of the nurse that may have prevented a future death that COULD HAVE occurred in a similar life-threatening situation.

That's just sickening. Thankfully, her sickness wasn't serious and she survived without medical care. There are definitely some workers at that hospital who deserve to be unemployed.

its human nature to mock others that are different or belonging to a certain group....you cannot take that away because its in locked in as part of our primal instincts. it takes a lot of education from an individual to see past that, constant interaction is needed.

It's really inhumane to deny the hospital-treatment to a needy fellow human solely on the grounds of one's sexual-orientation, even when we humans accord full respect to non-humans like a dog or cat [without even being aware of the sexual-orientation of these pet-animals!]. God is present in all the beings, be it the Straight humans or otherwise.....
